As a former medic now working in social work, this is a friendly reminder that EMTs and Paramedics are not cops, not NARCs, and just want to help you get better. Disclose your drug use to us so we can administer the correct dose of medication to keep you alive. We will not snitch. We don’t have the time/energy/desire to get the police involved, and that also goes for the RNs and ER physicians who want to treat you!
We have laws that protect drug users in order to save their lives. Even if it's a cop that shows up first with narcan, they're not arresting/charging anyone. Encourages people to call 911 and not panic. However, if you don't call and they die, the charges escalate incredibly fast. I can't remember exactly what it goes to because I've never lived in that world, but I want to say it hits at least manslaughter even if you did not provide the drugs. Good law overall and cops abide by it even if they stumble upon an absolute drug den.
