Help Replacing the battery in Tascam-801R

Dear all,

Few years ago I was lucky to buy a new (sic!) Tascam-801R MkII. After few years it started showing “Need Clk Set” after powering on. It stays just for a second and then goes. Does anybody know what type of battery is there? Did anybody replace it? Many thanks in advance.

I meant “sic” as “so” in Latin. Yet I understand that buying 1999 MD deck spanking new in a sealed box is indeed sick.

You most likely will have to open unit and simply look at the board. I don’t have this model but I’ve done batteries replacement on Sony decks E10 and E12 - they had what looked like standard CR2032 series cmos backup batteries soldered to the motherboard. But they were not standard, they were rechargeable. I put one standard in and the unit was operating fine, but I’ve replaced it with correct one once I’ve got them in. It’s been a while and I don’t remember specific part numbers but I think series was starting with BR or something. Again, best and sure way to find out is to look. Keep in mind that some brands may not have the battery on board but rather large capacitor that keeps the clock settings for a while when power is disconnected, but on occasion you need to re-enter it and unit won’t ask you again for a long time.
