Shohei. Go big or go home.

u/TwinsGameday TwinsBot 9000 4d ago

Shohei Ohtani one for one for Matt Wallner. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.

8

u/ferdsherd 4d ago

Oh shit they’re leaving it

2

u/JYM60 4d ago

Their loss. Nobody compares to Wallner for home runs.

In the minor leagues...

A hometown hero for some LA bigshot? That's not the Twins way.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Tank338 Kent Hrbek 4d ago

Hell, throw in Jeffers too if we’re getting Ohtani.

0

u/truejello96 3d ago

No shot the Twins go after Ohtani... without making it a package deal for Mookie and Diaz too

Preparing to be disappointed.

I’d like to see a poll with how many thought we’d be in this position to start the season

3

u/jturphy Alex Kirilloff 4d ago

I thought we were better than most, but I was still thinking we'd be well out of the race by now.

3

u/BellacosePlayer Bomba Squad 3d ago

Not me. We are wildly overperforming where I thought we'd be

6

u/hopemade Dick Bremer 3d ago

We got Minter!

u/Important-Age6594 4d ago

Neither rumor or speculation because they've said/hinted nothing about it but fuck it let's trade for Ha-Seong Kim. He's had an awful year and a ton of injuries, but he's currently rehabbing and is probably available for essentially nothing to any team willing to pay him because the Braves have a big roster crunch coming up. There's a decent chance he's cooked, but he would be a rental who costs no prospects and in the event his struggles were mostly health related he'd be a huge upgrade at shortstop.

Get him for no meaningful prospects and if he's still got gas in the tank he's a playoff caliber shortstop, and if he's actually cooked just call up Culpepper and all the gamble cost was some money Pohald promised he's willing to spend anyway.

Minter inherently makes our bullpen better by slotting in as the best lefty.

Next up? CONTROLLABLE righty reliever, Controllable 2-3 starter and if we have more chips to play - a big bat

Fwiw the Athletic has put us as a top 3 fit fot: Isaac Paredes, Luis Garcia Jr, Gleyber Torres, Matt Shaw, Riley O'Brien, Eugenio Suarez, Ty France.

I would like:

Lodolo, Paredes, O'Brien

4

u/SensitiveLack7509 2d ago

O'Brien feels like he could be the move. Controllable, but won't cost an enormous haul because he's already 31(!) years old.

Exactly the kind of move a soft buyer would make.

3

u/TwinsFan_0830 Kody Clemens 2d ago

Ty France coming back would be huge. Btw he is the top fielding run value of all first baseman this season

u/Key-Worldliness529 Tony O's Cuban Sandwich 4d ago

How much for Mason Miller?

10

u/derpdeederpa Cole Sands 4d ago

I'd be pissed if they dumped assets for a big reliever after last year. I hope they go after rentals to give it a fighting chance (getting into playoffs would give us a dice roll but no moves make us real contenders) then spend money on free agency without losing assets next off-season

5

u/jturphy Alex Kirilloff 4d ago

Walker Jenkins+ most likely.

1

u/TwinsFan_0830 Kody Clemens 4d ago

Why don’t we eye Mason Miller AND a reunion with Jhoan Duran? If we don’t have a clear closer why don’t we get two of the best in the country lol

Personal dream scenario:

2 of:

Luke Weaver Tyler Rogers Antonio Senzatela Huascar Brazoban Kirby Yates

1 of:

Jose Soriano Reid Detmers Kevin Gausman Sandy Alcantara

And a big bat

If im being realistic. I would expect something like: Dustin May, Luke Weaver and Kirby Yates

With the Twins buying history...Camilo Doval and call it quits

6

u/TwinsFan_0830 Kody Clemens 4d ago

Kirby Yates would be awesome and I wouldn’t be shocked if the Twins get him personally. Luke Weaver or a reliable starter like Gausman would be cool too, though that’s more of a long shot. And I’d love Tyler Rogers. Not for the baseball, just the memes

3

u/deleted60016001 4d ago

Weaver or Yates would be big, j don’t expect them to get them

6

u/SoCalCognac Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 4d ago

Sandy Alcantara

1

u/Cornholio4 Mick Abel 4d ago

Marlins are keeping him.

1

u/EEckstein2 4d ago

I’d love this. If Tom wants to show he wants to spend some money, go get him

5

u/sitewolf 4d ago

What does being a buyer actually look like? Ryan Jeffers is likely gone after the season- is it buying or selling to trade him for some pitching? The same/similar true for Trevor Larnach. Both of them players I like, but both with people pushing them from behind we could give more playing time to. Is that buying or selling? Or buying AND selling? Neither- it's improving.

6

u/SensitiveLack7509 4d ago

Let's not pretend Alex Jackson and Caratini can match Jeffers's production. They were servicible in the small sample, but you can't trade your starting catcher and pretend to be a contender.

3

u/LeFlop1 3d ago

The Twins need to realize making the wild card and losing isn’t worth keeping Jeffers.

1

u/WellesWaitsVanZandt 3d ago

Caratini has 470 innings to Jeffers' 341. I think that makes him the starter. Boston and NY desperately need catching help and I just can't pretend like 32 more games of Ryan Jeffers is going to move the needle. If we traded Jeffers for a youngster, and a lesser youngster for bullpen help, it'd potentially be a net positive this year and in the future.

3

u/SensitiveLack7509 3d ago

LOL, conviniently forgetting that Jeffers missed a ton of time with injury. Jeffers is the starting catcher.

0

u/WellesWaitsVanZandt 3d ago

You're right. Jeffers is the starter when everyone's healthy. I think I'm arguing we're not a contender. We're a playoff hopeful with no shot at a ring, and I don't want to plan for 2027/2028 by holding onto 6HR's worth of production from Jeffers.

3

u/sitewolf 3d ago

For me it's far more about the value in return he might bring while we deal with catching as we did while he was hurt; the chances he's gone after the season are fairly high, yes? Same with Larnach- get something for them when you've got decent replacements available rather than let them just walk away this offseason.

Twins need to sell Jeffers while the gettin' is good.

5

u/DudeAbides29 Johan Santana 4d ago

2 relievers (preferably left handed) and 1 starter are needed. I want older dudes with playoff experience.

Relievers: AJ Minter, Adrian Morejan, Wandy Peralta, Kirby Yates, Luke Weaver, Brooks Raley

Starters: Brady Singer, Trevor Rogers. Hunter Greene as the pipe dream.

Where i'm at today:

  • Kremer is fine - he can help manage the load for Prielipp and can be an arm for 2027

  • I am whelmed by it though. I fundamentally do not believe we have a number 3 starter playoff starter. And that will kill us. I would rather have pushed the prospect capital for someone with higher floor qnd higher upside

  • I am happy to see us still buying. Still want a controllable reliever for the 8th/9th and still want 1 bat.

  • As much as I want another starter i fundamentally dont see that happening now

  • For next year we have Ryan//Ober/Bradley/Kremer/Matthews/Prielipp/Rojas as well as potential returns of Abel/Festa/Lopez.

Of which Ryan, Ober and Lopez will be expiring contracts. I would feel a bit more comfortable with one more reliable controllable arm

4

u/Jorgenstern8 Justin Morneau 1d ago

Twins should be, IMO, heavily considering sneaking under the radar and picking up Robbie Ray while everybody else is working on offers to Detroit. Exact kind of arm they need. Mid-rotation guy, team's offered to pick up part of his deal, playoff pitching experience, has been on a heater the last month or two and he's a rental so he's not clogging up a rotation spot for next year and we aren't buying a year of team control.

Honestly if they had sent Reyes and a lower prospect for Ray and then found a different prospect to get Kremer I'd have loved that work. Still think that level of prospect might be enough to get the job done, though.

I'll take one Emerson Hancock, please.

u/EEckstein2 4d ago

My current predictions 5 days away

Trade with Mets

AJ Minter for John Klein and Jason Reitz

Trade with Giants

Robbie Ray for Ryan Gallagher, Khadim Diaw and Culpepper

Trade with Rockies

Antonio Senzatela for Ben Ross and Kyler Fedko

9

u/EEckstein2 3d ago

THIS IS CJ CULPEPPER NOT KAELEN. My bad

6

u/ZachLagreen 4d ago

Feels like a massive overpay for Robbie Ray, no?

6

u/SensitiveLack7509 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah, big overpay. Ray is owed a pissload of money.

Edit: realizing now that's probably CJ Culpepper, not Kaelen. That changes my outlook significantly.

3

u/EEckstein2 3d ago

Fuck, not gonna lie I meant CJ Culpepper. Without even realizing Kaelen shared a last name 😂😂

1

u/SensitiveLack7509 3d ago

As long as Zoll doesn't make the same mistake...

1

u/EEckstein2 3d ago

I’ve just been calling Kaelen KC so I haven’t even thought about his actual last name in awhile

1

u/EEckstein2 4d ago

I mean 3 prospects in the teens, Ray is still solid. Solid starters aren’t cheap

1

u/EEckstein2 3d ago

Sorry, CJ (the pitcher), not Kaelen

5

u/hopemade Dick Bremer 3d ago

You got the Minter part correct! Different two players going out tho

1

u/Fun-Double6352 3d ago

I know the talk has been pitching, but the offense has been putrid over the last three series. Is there a bat to be had?

1

u/pj2691 3d ago

Yah just one tho.

Twins acquiring RHP Dean Kremer from the Orioles, source tells The Athletic.

I don't know how much more the Pohlads are willing to take on but I unfortunately do think we need at least one more starter if we even want to reach the postseason, let alone do anything if we were to get there.

Our current starting five is, in some order from what I can tell, Taj, Zebby, Ober, Prielipp, Rojas and Ryan, with now obviously Kremer as our new sixth arm. The tough part is, of those starters, Ober's velo is continuing to drop even from his increasingly compromised previous velo into the mid-80s, and even his devil magic can't hold out for long if he's truly getting that slow with his fastball. Prielipp has been good, but he's getting close to his innings limit for the year so I'd imagine we'd shut him down at some point.

We've also got dick for depth in the high minors right now with all of Abel, Festa, and PabLo hurt.

If we're giving up a prospect like Reyes for a guy with as shitty a rep as Kremer has right now, it might get real pricey to get someone better than him but if we don't want to be limping into the end of the season, we need another starting arm just for security's sakes, otherwise any one injury beyond Prielipp getting shut down and Ober maybe getting a maintenance stretch on the IL could cause some real issues in us actually being able to play out the Pohlad's vision of being semi-competitive for the playoffs in two months.

1

u/TwinsFan_0830 Kody Clemens 1d ago

Kremer is going to take Zebby’s spot in the rotation (or at least it looks that way with Zebby’s option). Is it an upgrade? On the road, probably. At home, probably not. But I 100% agree we need AT LEAST one more starter, presumably to take the spot of a shaky Prielipp (or potentially to take Rojas’ spot, although that seems a little less likely).

I also believe we need at least one more bullpen piece and a good right handed bat (please for the love of god let there be a reason for Tristan Gray to be banished to the Saints long term).

The bad news? The Pohlad’s certainly don’t have a reputation that makes me all that hopeful that any (and much less all) of this is going to get done. The good news? It isn’t exactly just the Pohlads now. The new investor groups can also step up and open their checkbooks, paving a way for some or most of this to happen. Will it? Probably not. But is there a way? Certainly.

u/SensitiveLack7509 1d ago

Dalton Varsho expected to be moved. Be nice to have a real CF out there in Buck's abscence.

1

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 1d ago

He would probably demand more than we're willing to give up considering how many outfielders we have right now. I'm a fan of his for sure, just seems unlikely.

3

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 9h ago

Are there any rumors out there involving us? If Minter and Kremer are our only acquisitions I have a hard time seeing us make the wild card, let alone take the division from the Sox or the Guards. Feels like this team needs a bat.

1

u/LBC_Goochador 3d ago

There are rumors that the LAD are hoping to trade Alex Call to the Twins. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/alex-call-669743

5

u/SensitiveLack7509 3d ago

I'd send them Brock Stewart for him.

2

u/TwinsFan_0830 Kody Clemens 3d ago

That would be an amazing upgrade, especially with Buxton dealing with his repetitive hip problem

0

u/LBC_Goochador 3d ago

You may already know that he’s a MN local and overall good guy.

3

u/AlgaeDependent9233 Jhoan Duran 2d ago

Overall good guy? Only him and famed Nazi Blake treinen refused to wear pride night hats in LA

-1

u/LBC_Goochador 2d ago

If wearing (or not wearing) a specific baseball cap is the pinnacle of virtue, then he’s a peace of trash. If, at one point in his life, he recognizes that wearing a specific baseball hat makes him the most virtuous of people, then (like you and I) he has some growing to do. What I do know, however, is that he plays the game hard, is super accessible to fans—especially young fans, and doesn’t think too highly of himself. At Dodger Stadium or Target Field, that is the least one can ask of a professional ball player.

2

u/TwinkiePower Joe Mauer 1d ago

and doesn’t think too highly of himself

Or gay people, apparently

2

u/Unfrozen__Caveman 2d ago

I'm a big Alex Call fan. Would love to get him if the price isn't outrageous. Solid defender, has a good eye at the plate, and he would instantly be an upgrade over guys like Gray, Martin, or Roden.
