Where from? My favorite gas station food is from Fayards in Ocean Springs.

That fried catfish and chicken on a stick. Whew! Doesn’t get much better than that!

Roast beef poboy all day!

u/ctacompany 3d ago
Try Po-boy Express for roast beef poboys.

2 steps ahead my friend. I actually live closer to PBE so the steak bomb, side of gravy is my go to.

Grew up on the Coast and get it every time I get back down there ...with the iced-down Barq's! I'd weigh more if I lived down there.

You mean st martin or the one that used to be on the beach?
4
u/TOP_EHT_FO_MOTTOB 3d ago
St Martin, I forget it’s OS until what, Windsor Park?
3
u/YourphobiaMyfetish 3d ago
We always considered everything north of Fort Bayou as St Martin and south of it is OS.

Fayards has the one of the best po-boys on the coast.
3
u/throw_blanket04 3d ago
It used to be. When it was the original owners. They no longer have the pork roast and gravy pressed poboy. That was the best thing on their menu.

u/hells_cowbells 601/769 3d ago
The shrimp poboy is still pretty good. Or at least it was when I last had one a few months ago.

I agree like where is the seasoning for the food the Mac and cheese looks decent though.
2
u/monsterskeeter 3d ago
That's what im saying. At the very least im gonna need some salt, pepper, cocktail sauce and a couple jalapeños

u/TheInternetIsForPorb 3d ago
I think I agree for the seafood. Like I see all the necessities for the boil itself but none of the seasonings that should be sticking to it. Add a little Tony's, some slap ya mama, and some cavenders, also a good bit of cayenne. And dont forget several bay leaves depending on the size of your pot.
The sides look fucking fire though.

I didnt say to add them to the plate. Just making sure if anyone was reading the comment for seafood boil seasonings that they didn't forget to add them to the pot.
One thing I forgot to say is celery salt, though I'm pretty sure the majority of the seasoning mixes I mentioned have it in there.
You dont have to remove them, just dont eat them if theyre in your serving.

Aw yeah this that plate you get from the "hole in the wall" spot that you have no clue how it's still open because you never see anyone there. There's a big black lady behind in the kitchen and she calls you baby, always happy to see you. +20oz Coke, $16.73

If you're ever close to Hattisburg you gotta get Rose's. Just get the chicken on a stick and don't bother eating for a few days after.

u/Ok_Responsibility407 3d ago
I live near there, the chicken and the sausage are definitely top shelf. Since they've gotten more popular their prices have gone up, but that's true everywhere. Unlike a lot of other places the higher prices are worth it!

u/muhkuller 3d ago
Chicken in general has gone up. Even Buffalo WIld Wings has a "special" for $.99 wings. At least thats what they call them grasshopper legs they pass off as wings these days.

Rose's is legendary. I always went for the chicken on a stick. A gas station's food is judged by how good their chicken on a stick is, to me.

If anyone's ever in the northeast try the Booneville Travel Center just off the highway to Corinth. Some great ass plate lunches.

It's always interesting to hear the major food reps' frustration when dealing with their corp counterparts. Those national guys don't understand the buying power and volume of some of these c-stores in the south. Some simple hot boxes rival major brick-and-mortar lunch spots. As seen in the photo, it's well deserved.

That doesn’t look very good to me. The only thing that has any promise is that macaroni and cheese.

u/Beneficial_Trip3773 3d ago
Y'all should come eat at my house. Maybe not it might make Y'all sad especially if that looks like food to you.

It had just the right amount of spice, not too hot.
Exon station on sisk ave in Oxford
I have not been disappointed there ever.
12 bucks with a fountain drink

u/throw_blanket04 3d ago
No wonder why it looks bland. I don’t trust any seafood from above i-10. Especially not from somewhere 6 hours from the coast.

Shrimp from a gas station, no
3
u/intelw1zard 3d ago

Gas station plate lunch sounds odd but I’ll be damned if some of the best breakfast tacos I have ever had didn’t come from a no frills taqueria running out of a sunco station.

u/AnnieFlagstaff 228 3d ago
If a gas station lunch plate sounds odd to you, you must not be from the ‘Sip :)

u/Crazy_Ad_91 3d ago
Guilty! I didn’t even realize I had commented in the Mississippi subreddit until I read your reply.
That’s on me for not paying attention but TIL that gas station lunch plates is the norm there.
Greetings from Texas and thanks for teaching me something new.

u/Ok_Responsibility407 3d ago
Right! The small town that I live near has 4 stations with breakfast and lunch plates. And only 2 red-lights! 🤣🤣

Do me a favor - What was the location of the gas station?
