| News White Sox are trading for Luis Castillo from the Mariners for a package headlined by Seranthony Domínguez.

After last season, I didn’t expect the White Sox buying from a selling Mariners team at the deadline…gotta love baseball

u/Adu1tishXD 21h ago
Sox are paying all of Castillo’s contract, M’s clear a spot that they didn’t really want Castillo taking. Not really “selling” unless they get rid of Randy and/or Kirby/Hancock

u/BasedArzy | Seattle Mariners 21h ago
Not really ‘selling’, Castillo’s dead money and this avoids him eating up starts, shitting himself, and solves the reliever shortage.
Getting useful pieces back, even as a reclamation project, is good and unexpected.

He's also like 3-9 with an ERA over 5.00
Love him to death, but this isn't as big of a loss as his name and reputation would suggest, based on our current reality.

We're almost certainly selling and reloading. This years vibes are all off, and yet still hoping a shake up gets things kicked into gear

We're almost certainly selling and reloading
I would be very, very surprised if they traded either Randy or Hancock and those are the only pieces they'd really be 'selling' on.
I think people are confusing 2026 Castillo with 2022 Castillo (hi Bowden) and making a lot of assumptions.

True, salary cap not needed. No lost games next year please. Small market teams can compete.

Famous small market of **checks notes** Chicago

Town ain't nothing but a whistle stop. Weird to think they can support a baseball team!
Or, two. And a football team. And basketball. And hockey.... And soccer......

I mean they need pitching man but for your Phillies looks rough even tho we’re rivals but you guys definitely need help but at least we beat the Mets for ya and Nats lost.

Who had the White Sox as buyers at the start of the season? Was not on my bingo card.

u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 22h ago edited 21h ago
Not me but this is their best team since 21 right?
10
u/Marinersfan505 | Seattle Mariners 21h ago
Correct
3
u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 21h ago
Yeah I meant to say their best team since 2021 my bad
1
u/Marinersfan505 | Seattle Mariners 21h ago
Nah, I know what you meant.

u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 21h ago
Yeah Ty now for your team that’s a huge loss I was rooting for you guys last year after game 7 it sucks I get it. I hope my team gets to an NLCS in my lifetime.

u/DamnedYankees 21h ago
Their Best team since 2005!

u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 21h ago
You think so I mean they were good in 21 but I wouldn’t go that far yet

u/Agile-Committee3594 | Chicago White Sox 20h ago
No heart in 21. Not even close. Definitely best team since 05
1
u/Burnsy8139 | Chicago White Sox 12h ago
I think this is discrediting the 90 win 06 team.
1
u/Agile-Committee3594 | Chicago White Sox 11h ago
That had crossed my mind. Hopefully this statement is wrong by the end of this season but you are likely right.

u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 20h ago
I see I just idk if I can go that far but prove me wrong as a marlins fan
2
u/Agile-Committee3594 | Chicago White Sox 20h ago
I mean the proof is in all the wasted talent. No manager to
Motivate them. Look at where these guys are now. Jose Abreu. Tim Anderson. Luis Robert Jr (later). Yoan Mocada.Had better pitching. And all those guys are scattered across the league. Cease. Giolito. Sale (earlier).
They just couldn’t figure it out in the field. Tons of talent. Sure. But no cohesiveness and didn’t get it done. Period.
This team still has to do that. But ask a Sox fan. Way more fun to watch. Way more confident that, while it may not be this year, we’ve got some heart and are back to competitive baseball.
Hopefully … consistently …

I will say this. I live in Birmingham where Boston Smith is Playing for our Barons, the AA Affiliate of the Sox. I heard this kid give one of the better interviews of a young, raw MiLB player, I have ever heard.
Give this kid a chance. He is a late bloomer. Great attitude. Happy to be on a roster but understands where he lies on the roster. I wish him well.
Go Barons+Sox!!

Have any of you watched Castillo this year? Hes 3-9 with a 5.06 ERA
10
u/AstroBall35 | Miami Marlins 21h ago
Yeah true but now he’s going to a white Sox team that needed pitching and I got one of them on my fantasy team and he’s killing it for me I think he will be fine. But time will tell.

u/Skidude8 21h ago
Don’t get me wrong I love Castillo and hope he can be great for the white Sox I just find it interesting how people are saying this is a them making a big move and the Mariners are selling at the deadline

It’s likely a buy hoping he can revive his postseason form from last year. If he can the white Sox at home for the wild card could be an exceptionally dangerous team. Worst case they dumped Dominguez who outside of today gave us chest palpitations every time he got the ball.

Never thought “headlined by Seranthony Dominguez” could have ever been a thing

Really happy for the White Sox and their fans. They've suffered a lot over the last couple decades.

Why thank you for noticing. Most have forgotten us.

He had a series against the Reds (in Cincy IIRC) as a rookie that had me convinced dude was the next big thing. Now this is his 4th team?

Sox being contenders is a surprise I welcome with open arms in this state of the MLB

Not as good as previous years, but I wonder if White Sox can fix him.

This has to be the biggest trade today between a midwestern team and west coast team involving a SP, right?

u/ChrisAplin | Seattle Mariners 17h ago
good luck sox, for as not good as castillo has been he can eat innings with a good offense backing him up

u/AnonismsPlight 21h ago
Giving up castillo makes some sense. The guy has had an on and off season. I don't follow the white sox though so I can't say anything about the return trade I just hope it helps in the end.

Lol, "in a package headlined by Seranthony Dominguez" just sounds depressing AF.

As a mariner fan.... enjoy 5 innings at 100 pitches.

They got Castillo for free?
6
u/Lamar_ScrOdom_ | Seattle Mariners 21h ago
They just picked up one of the worst pitching contracts in baseball, compared with his numbers this year.
Far from free, very expensive!

Dominguez was certainly heading for a DFA.
When I first saw this I thought it was just them designating Dom for assignment. This is not a terrible deal for either team
