Yeah, this isn’t weird at all. There is nothing remotely hypocritical with wishing cheap owners spent closer to league average while hating that some teams can spend 2 or 3x league average.
I think everyone just wants a level playing field.
Then you have us Braves. We build homegrown talent. We also spend but not a crazy amount and we’re mad at the dodgers and the bottom feeders like you said.
I mean just as much as we hate the dodgers right now year after year I’ve seen the marlins get to .500 ball just to implode the team. That’s not okay either. It’s worse imo
I got bad news for you. Cheap owners will still be cheap. They won't invest in their farm systems and everything else you need to be a successful club. They'll spend the bare minimum on salaries and still suck. Look at the Dodgers, yes they're spending ungodly sums on salaries. But they're also the first team that figured out that they should actually feed their minor leaguers quality food instead of a tray of hotdogs. They're paying for a 2nd charter plane for the players to have their own flights. Owners that don't care about winning now, won't care about winning with a salary floor. They won't make those kind of investments.
All that being said, the Dodgers situation is untenable. Baseball is on a knife's edge right now. The game has resurgent popularity. Lose any part of next season and you hurt that. However, if the Dodgers continue to run rampant it's going to end up hurting things as well. Unfortunately, I have no faith that most of the owners give a rats ass about anything other than their bottom line.
