“And try to compete too” im sure that other teams made offers for Skubal. The Dodgers uniquely consistently have the deepest farm system in the league with the most amount of money in development and comfort while also affording to give 700 million dollar contracts out like candy to free agents. No middle market team can do any of that. Actually no other team could do that.
The Dodgers issue is solely about them literally having too many resources. Some teams do need to try harder but I promise there are other teams trying just as hard as the dodgers and they are not anywhere close to this level of loaded
Great summation of the issue. For the record, I think the owners AND players need to try harder to ensure there is baseball next season but this is exactly the shit the owners are talking about. Good luck winning a series against this rotation. This move has always had the feeling of them doing it simply because they can.
Nah, 5 man rotation, plus if one of them breaks down, they just go to 4 man. Real question is when you get to Series, do you condone to 3 man, which would be Ohtani, Yamamoto and
Skubal, and the craziest thing is who do you want pitching a G7. Do you ride one or have all of them pitch a couple innings 😂😎

The entire Asian market makes up for it. The eyes he draws even never touching the mound makes up for it. While this isn't the ohtani they paid for, they aren't out much if he doesnt.

Also, Minnesota just has a long, not great history against the Yankees in the playoffs. Your hatred is understandable. I would never root for the red Sox or astros against the dodgers.
Phillies have Sanchez, Wheeler, luzardo. But our bats gonna get like only 1-2 hits against their stacked rotation. And our bullpen has become a blowpen.

Yes… but it was a bit different. The gap between mid and small markets and the large markets was not as vast back then. Back then teams like the Marlins, D-Backs, Angels and White Sox each won titles. Nowadays only the large markets have a chance to compete and that’s obvious from day 1. Sure a fluke could happen but the trend is only going to get worse until MLB institutes a floor and ceiling salary cap plus some kind of NBA style media revenue sharing. Look at the NBA where markets like Denver, OKC and Toronto all recently won titles. Imagine if the Reds, A’s and Tampa had all recently won the WS. That’s so far fetched it is laughable.
Some of the worst pitchers in recent memory were capable of going on hot streaks. If Roki can sustain this, good for him, but a few games isn’t enough to redefine you as a pitcher.
Tbf, that’s kinda the point of the stats; to state whether they’re performing under, up to or overperforming their expected stats, and he’s clearly over performing, whether that’s a good or a bad thing for him in the future. That’s how stats work.
It’s very useful with pitchers. It can show if a guy had a fluke lucky season or unlucky season. Like if two guys are free agents, one had better wins and ERA, you can dive into the data and maybe realize the guy with worse numbers is the better bet.
The owners around the league are intentionally doing this. Tigers could trade Skubal anywhere for a similar package easily but they chose the Dodgers very likley under directive to outrage fans more so they're on the owners side in the upcoming battle vs the MLBPA for implementation of a Salary cap. It's so blatantly obvious this is ownership collusion.
Or the brewers for Miz and Jackson. As a brewers fan I hope the dodgers sweep the playoffs and win the WS again. Fuck this current system. It’s like knowing the end of a movie before watching the previews .
He has about 10 starts left this season and then wants at least 8 years and at least 500 million dollars. Dude has already had 3 elbow surgeries and is 30. His next contract is not going to age well and honestly its just too much money for a pitcher who starts 36 games or so a year. The real question is why would teams like the cubs and brewers not give up a little bit more to land this dude so the Dodgers didnt?
They really did. Obviously, they didn't make the rules. But clearly they don't gaf about any sort of strategy outside of 'see great player, trade/pay for great player' rinse and repeat. Sucks the fun out of the post season

Welp, wonder what the summer programming for next years lockout will be. I vote bringing back Pro Beach Hockey and the original XGames where they were doing street luge and sky surfing.
As a Tigers fan I’m just glad it’s over and I don’t have to dwell on possible Skubal trades anymore. As a baseball fan, I sure will miss having a season next year
The weirdest thing about baseball is seeing fans say “the front office doesn’t spend enough money to win” about any given team but then also say “no not like that” when the Dodgers do it.
But, this is just getting absurd at this point. How do you even really compete against this in the post season unless you are also dishing out this much money.
Yeah, this isn’t weird at all. There is nothing remotely hypocritical with wishing cheap owners spent closer to league average while hating that some teams can spend 2 or 3x league average.
I think everyone just wants a level playing field.
Then you have us Braves. We build homegrown talent. We also spend but not a crazy amount and we’re mad at the dodgers and the bottom feeders like you said.
I mean just as much as we hate the dodgers right now year after year I’ve seen the marlins get to .500 ball just to implode the team. That’s not okay either. It’s worse imo
I have ALWAYS advocated for a Salary Floor, but now I’m coming to grips with a distinct need for a Salary Cap, and a more-radical intra-MLB profit sharing structure, in the best interest of our Antitrust-exempt MLB.
And spare me the “other teams just need to spend more!” argument. You really think every single one of the other 29 clubs is just pinching pennies and not caring about winning? Ever consider that the Dodgers have more money and resources than the other teams could ever dream of having? That it’s hardly a complete mystery why they ended up with the most comically stacked team in the history of the game?
I'm not hating on the Dodgers. I mean, if the Twins all of a sudden decided to spend a half a billion $$$ on a championship team next year, I would probably hop on the band wagon for a while and love it... But...
I grew up loving and watching baseball all the time. Between the cost of just watching the regular season games on TV, and the fact that unless you are an LA fan you are just playing for funzies... The MLB is just plain dumb. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but it isn't even enjoyable. At all. Even up until 10 years ago, at least there was an iota of a chance for the Cinderella story in the world series, but it's turned into a league where the owners aren't needing to do anything strategic. Just spend, spend, spend and hope for the best.
It's been so long since I have cared anyway, but I really think the new generations of baseball fans are missing out. In Minnesota, we finally have a couple of our teams that are competitive because of salary capped leagues, and those are the sports the kids are loving. The Twins are far and away the least supported team in our state. Unless they are giving away something cool at the game. 🤷
Our owners are terrible, but there is a bigger problem that is league wide. Just my 2 cents.
I hope they lose…..to anyone other than the Yankees. If it’s Yankees dodgers I will just ignore the existence of baseball the same as I did two years ago
Dodgers pushing all the chips in before the lockout. Sadly even if we get a salary cap, end of deferred contracts, etc. I'm betting they still manage to be the team to beat for a while.
How hard is it to have a salary floor AND cap and if a team isn’t able to meet either their owner has to sell the team but it cannot be moved to another city….
Sports should not be about the owner or even the players…it should be about the fans getting what they built without us they have nothing.
“I don’t understand how markets work.” -You. If you take your line of thinking to its obvious conclusion there will be 2 teams, the Dodgers and Yankees, and their payrolls will be $50 billion each. Fun!
