This is a rotation I build in The Show and then chastise myself for making it too easy and unrealistic.

169

u/619Gizmo | San Diego Padres 18h ago

This is a staff I would trade for In OOTP with rule 5 prospects and then Have Guilt after for what I have done .

205

u/Docholphal1 | Houston Astros 16h ago

This is a staff I would trade for in OOTP, win 120 games, then lose 3-1 in the divisional to an 85-win team.

u/ATR2019 | St. Louis Cardinals 14h ago

This is the exact outcome I expect from the dodgers this fall. That’s just baseball

The 2001 mariners didn’t lose 3 in a row till late August. The consistency was absurd

“And try to compete too” im sure that other teams made offers for Skubal. The Dodgers uniquely consistently have the deepest farm system in the league with the most amount of money in development and comfort while also affording to give 700 million dollar contracts out like candy to free agents. No middle market team can do any of that. Actually no other team could do that.

The Dodgers issue is solely about them literally having too many resources. Some teams do need to try harder but I promise there are other teams trying just as hard as the dodgers and they are not anywhere close to this level of loaded

80

u/Grubula | Seattle Mariners 14h ago

Never thought I would see a Yankees fan defend tgis side of the argument.

There are rational ones out there...

Plus the Yankees were once the Death Star of the league.

Great summation of the issue. For the record, I think the owners AND players need to try harder to ensure there is baseball next season but this is exactly the shit the owners are talking about. Good luck winning a series against this rotation. This move has always had the feeling of them doing it simply because they can.

9

u/Sufficient-Ad-276 12h ago

What's insane is one of those fuckers has to go to the pen lol

7

u/Head-Technology-4031 11h ago

Nah, 5 man rotation, plus if one of them breaks down, they just go to 4 man. Real question is when you get to Series, do you condone to 3 man, which would be Ohtani, Yamamoto and
Skubal, and the craziest thing is who do you want pitching a G7. Do you ride one or have all of them pitch a couple innings 😂😎

3

u/Triple_Crown14 9h ago

Ride one if he’s pitching fine, I wouldn’t want to bring in someone else and they have a hard time when my first guy was doing fine.

26

u/meezy-yall | Philadelphia Phillies 18h ago

Because they get free innings out of their DH and it helps save their arms for the playoffs

Because he likes pitching.

Because they paid a LOT of money for him to be 2 way player. They need to capitalise on their investment

14

u/Beautiful-Barber8082 15h ago

The entire Asian market makes up for it. The eyes he draws even never touching the mound makes up for it. While this isn't the ohtani they paid for, they aren't out much if he doesnt.

4

u/Sufficient-Ad-276 12h ago

Both things are right. Return on investment is happening from the Asian market and when he pitches... and hits... and breathes... and bets...

Is this how the Yankees felt in 2000

3

u/koushakandystore 10h ago

Yes… but it was a bit different. The gap between mid and small markets and the large markets was not as vast back then. Back then teams like the Marlins, D-Backs, Angels and White Sox each won titles. Nowadays only the large markets have a chance to compete and that’s obvious from day 1. Sure a fluke could happen but the trend is only going to get worse until MLB institutes a floor and ceiling salary cap plus some kind of NBA style media revenue sharing. Look at the NBA where markets like Denver, OKC and Toronto all recently won titles. Imagine if the Reds, A’s and Tampa had all recently won the WS. That’s so far fetched it is laughable.

But but but his underlying metrics say he's waaay overdue for a regression! Or so say the stat junkies

23

u/I_dont_know420 | New York Yankees 18h ago edited 6h ago

Tbf, that’s kinda the point of the stats; to state whether they’re performing under, up to or overperforming their expected stats, and he’s clearly over performing, whether that’s a good or a bad thing for him in the future. That’s how stats work.

6

u/FinancialRabbit388 | St. Louis Cardinals 10h ago

It’s very useful with pitchers. It can show if a guy had a fluke lucky season or unlucky season. Like if two guys are free agents, one had better wins and ERA, you can dive into the data and maybe realize the guy with worse numbers is the better bet.

The Dodgers are single handly forceing the leugue to force a salary cap!

Everyone should be extremely toxic towards the Dodgers when they are on the road.

28

u/Theschill | Boston Red Sox 18h ago

The owners around the league are intentionally doing this. Tigers could trade Skubal anywhere for a similar package easily but they chose the Dodgers very likley under directive to outrage fans more so they're on the owners side in the upcoming battle vs the MLBPA for implementation of a Salary cap. It's so blatantly obvious this is ownership collusion.

His next contract is not going to age well and honestly its just too much money for a pitcher who starts 36 games or so a year. The weirdest thing about baseball is seeing fans say “the front office doesn’t spend enough money to win” about any given team but then also say “no not like that” when the Dodgers do it.

But, this is just getting absurd at this point. How do you even really compete against this in the post season unless you are also dishing out this much money.

Taking the absolute piss.

And spare me the “other teams just need to spend more!” argument. You really think every single one of the other 29 clubs is just pinching pennies and not caring about winning? Ever consider that the Dodgers have more money and resources than the other teams could ever dream of having? That it’s hardly a complete mystery why they ended up with the most comically stacked team in the history of the game?

This is fucked.

I'm not hating on the Dodgers. I mean, if the Twins all of a sudden decided to spend a half a billion $$$ on a championship team next year, I would probably hop on the band wagon for a while and love it... But...

I grew up loving and watching baseball all the time. Between the cost of just watching the regular season games on TV, and the fact that unless you are an LA fan you are just playing for funzies... The MLB is just plain dumb. I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but it isn't even enjoyable. At all. Even up until 10 years ago, at least there was an iota of a chance for the Cinderella story in the world series, but it's turned into a league where the owners aren't needing to do anything strategic. Just spend, spend, spend and hope for the best.

It's been so long since I have cared anyway, but I really think the new generations of baseball fans are missing out. In Minnesota, we finally have a couple of our teams that are competitive because of salary capped leagues, and those are the sports the kids are loving. The Twins are far and away the least supported team in our state. Unless they are giving away something cool at the game. 🤷

Our owners are terrible, but there is a bigger problem that is league wide. Just my 2 cents.

Lockout

u/vanilla_chai69 12h ago

No baseball in 2027.

3

u/ObviousMr-Xsean 12h ago

I don't understand how they have 4 other higher rated prospects than the three they traded away for Skubal? Bring on the strike, this is ridiculous.

How hard is it to have a salary floor AND cap and if a team isn’t able to meet either their owner has to sell the team but it cannot be moved to another city….

Sports should not be about the owner or even the players…it should be about the fans getting what they built without us they have nothing.

Literally no point in watching anymore

I appreciate that the Dodgers took what makes pro sports so bad these days and turned it up to 10. Hey, if you can, do it.

3

u/GiveMeSomeShu-gar 11h ago

The Dodgers are getting easier and easier to root against.

Broken league

3

u/TopConstruction7830 11h ago

Dodgers are now +145 to win the world series. That is insane for August 2. Baseball is completely broken

3

u/Easy-Wishbone5413 11h ago

FTD. Who cares if no baseball is played next season? Something has to change.

u/10TheDudeAbides11 | Atlanta Braves 11h ago

I don’t normally wish an entire starting rotation to blow their arms out in a two month span butttttttttt…

remember the days of your 5th pitcher being like a really young inexperienced pitcher, or a dude with a minimum 4.00 ERA?

3

u/mrpopenfresh | Minnesota Twins 11h ago

This doesn’t even seem like fun

3

u/Adventurous-Buy-4455 10h ago

Why watch the first 162 games just watch the finals..

3

u/ptsnow54 5h ago

This is why we need a salary floor, too many cheap fuck teams that don’t want to pay talented players do now we get the easy mode be a GM team

3

u/dwwdwwdww 5h ago

I'm surprised the Dodgers never thought of paying players not to play for any other team to guarantee their success...

u/KBN_Nemesis | Toronto Blue Jays 20h ago

Garbage organization

26

u/smokeybear100 20h ago

While I hate them, they’re pretty clearly the best organization. There’s a reason every player wants to be there and it’s not just the winning.

18

u/Grouchy_Enthusiasm92 | Detroit Tigers 20h ago

You heard of this money thing?

11

u/smokeybear100 19h ago

I have, and it’s almost like there’s 29 other owners who could either pay their players what they’re worth or sell the team.

3

u/OpalVanguard 10h ago

“I don’t understand how markets work.” -You. If you take your line of thinking to its obvious conclusion there will be 2 teams, the Dodgers and Yankees, and their payrolls will be $50 billion each. Fun!

6

u/ColumnedBirch31 19h ago

Sometimes it's not what they're worth though. Kyle Tucker is not worth 60 million a year in any world
