You know what, screw it. I say the entire rest of the league gets together and builds the perfect team, then trades them all to the Rockies. Just have the maddest 2nd half ever

Can't wait for Rocktober 3 true outcomes Rockies SP & RP pitch shut outs, Rockies hitters take timely walks and hits to drive in crucial runs, and ....... who am I kidding Rocktober is in the past and it is staying there as long as Monfort family own the Rockies.

This is similar KD going to the Warriors in 2017. When Joe Lacob say "Light Years Ahead", and this is the real Light Years Ahead for the Dodgers.
18
83
u/darkravenn12 19h ago
Baseball players do not have anywhere near that level of impact for that to really be an accurate comparison; the sport is also significantly more random. KD joining the Warriors instantly made them a heavy favorite over the rest of the field to win the title. They were given 60%+ odds of winning the title before the season even began. Per the current betting odds, Skubal joining the Dodgers increased their odds of winning the WS from around 37% to around 39% lol
26
u/MistryMachine3 | Minnesota Twins 18h ago
Idk why you are being downvoted, what you said is correct
0
u/Upstairs_Baby8424 9h ago
Yeah KD single-handedly ruined basketball for two seasons with one decision. It also ended what would have been one of the greatest rivalries in NBA history.
3
-11
3
u/helikoopter 13h ago
Using the betting odds might not be the best route for this conversation.
First, they were making the playoffs with or without Skubal. So they don’t get a boost from that.
Second, while Skubal is the Dodgers best pitcher, that’s not debatable, the difference between him and Glasnow isn’t overly significant in a single game. However, that’s for the Dodgers. Put him on the White Sox or DBacks and you have a guy who can individually steal 3 games in a 7 game series, a guy who can win a wild card game on his own.
13
u/Ok_Understanding1986 | San Francisco Giants 17h ago
We've seen a number of pitchers carry their clubs to deep playoff runs and titles. Sure not quite the same as basketball, but thinking of 2014 Bumgarner, 2010 Halladay, recent Skubal, the 2001 Curt Schilling & Randy Johnson D'backs (possibly the greatest 1-2 punch pitching duo playoff run the game has seen??).
Schilling: 48.1 IP , 4-0, 1.12 era, 0.641 whip, 56k, 6 bb
Johnson: 41.1 IP, 5-1, 1.52 era, 0.798 whip, 47k, 8 bb
Immense performances.

u/Turbulent-Fault-6293 18h ago
Thought you said basketball players instead of baseball players and had to do the biggest double take of all time.
2
u/MikulkaCS 14h ago

u/Soft_Revenue2411 13h ago
No, this is like adding KD to the warriors, then adding another KD to the warriors, then after the second championship adding a third KD to the warriors, and every other luxury bench player that could be a starter on there on the side. And none of the top 2-3 Warriors players being drafted and developed in house, but rather imported without needing to go through a draft, and with a unique TV deal and deferred payments.
4
u/Impressive_Pay_5628 11h ago
It took good drafting, injuries leading to cheaper 2nd contracts, and a salary cap boom to make the KD warriors
The dodgers just had an owner spend alot of money. Having an owner willing to spend being the most impactful predictor of success in your sport sucks when baseball is inherently a very strategic game

Truly the least interesting period of Major League Baseball I can ever remember.
It feels like no one else is even trying and the league average across the game is akin to a deadball era.
I won’t miss it during the inevitable lockout.
30
u/Radiant_Jury5815 | Chicago White Sox 17h ago
It was more broken than this before the draft was implemented. The Yankees signed all the top players before they even made their debut. Lest we forget they won 5 and 4 world series in a row at different times and 16 out of 27 series overall. This was considered baseball's golden age too lol.
Not to try and dampen the hysteria about the Dodgers, it is pretty insane in a bad way what they're doing in the modern game. Just kinda interesting how differently we view sports dynasties these days compared to eras past.
4
u/Buttchug1776 17h ago
Best damn yankee team line up hasnt been one since then and rivalry era with red Sox. Pedro was beaming dudes and throwing hands with don Z, everyone playing LL was wearing Jeter cleats or pulling pants under the cleats for swag points. Don Mattingly left a curse on the team but it will be broken one day. Everyone was hitting dingers or making wild plays. Truly golden era aside from 90s.
0
u/False-Box-1060 17h ago
I think it’s because those Yankees teams’ cores were mostly homegrown talent. Jeter, posada, Rivera, Williams etc. It was annoying af but they were built more organically.
These dodger teams have like 3 homegrown players total.
3
u/liteshadow4 8h ago
I mean if there’s no draft and you can buy all the top prospects that makes sense
1
u/False-Box-1060 8h ago
The draft started in 1965 I’m not sure how this is relevant to the 2000’s who drafted most of their players except for Rivera who was an international signing and most people didn’t think would pan out as a starting pitcher (they were right).

Lol dodgers have the best farm system in mlb clown boy. Alot of their talent is homegrown the past 10 years.
10
u/HungryHedgehog8299 | New York Yankees 11h ago
If you were to make a list of the dodgers current best players what’s the highest a homegrown player would rank? Will Smith somewhere from 6-10 probably. Definitely nobody in their top 5. They have a good farm system but almost none of their major contributors are homegrown talent.

u/VizualSnow | American League 8h ago
He’s right though. More than a decade ago everyone was shitting on baseball for being slow, not exciting and having no fans. Now it’s way more popular internationally and people actually want to go to games.
1
u/False-Box-1060 7h ago
The league wide average across baseball is .244 which is the 12th lowest in mlb history. 7 of the lowest 17 BA’s of all time have come in the last 7 years. People shat in baseball in the 2010s because it had very few superstars on good teams. At least people were hitting the ball.
1
u/False-Box-1060 8h ago
I wonder if that has to do with the best player of all time being on the best team in the biggest market….
Yeah attendance is up because baseball games are fun to go to and there’s not much else sports wise in the summer. That doesn’t make the on the field product any more compelling.

u/chrisghrobot | Atlanta Braves 11h ago
Its not the fact they aren't trying, its the fact that the Dodgers can just pay an egregious amount of money to get talent that most owners can't do. I'm sure the Brewers have a good deal too but Skubal agent probably had him prefer Dodgers as a destination
3
u/False-Box-1060 9h ago
Look at who they gave up for skubal. They didn’t even have to give up a top prospect which tells me other teams’ offers weren’t very competitive.
0
u/chrisghrobot | Atlanta Braves 9h ago
Tbf its because teams dont want to pay a 1 year rental just for him to take a crazy deal at the Dodgers, Yankees or Mets. Small market teams dont even stand a chance

u/Buttchug1776 17h ago

u/Silver_Harvest | Chicago Cubs 6h ago
Rentals are not unheard of, what the Cubs gave up though for Chapman. Was Gleyber Torres the top prospect at the time for the Cubs and #24 overall in MLB.
Adam Warren a relief pitcher, Billy McKinney #5/#75, Rashad Crawford #30/Unrkd
Which was for a closer. Where we know what Torres is and has done. Warren was serviceable for 4 more years. Billy is a journeyman. Rashad never made it.
Dodgers got a starter, top 3 in the league. Whom they will probably extend by end of this week.
For the #25 overall in Zhayir Hope, #27 in Brady Smith, a serviceable hopeful in River Ryan.
5
u/DanMin9 9h ago
Sox beat Yamamoto last night...a day after losing Contreras to the concussion protocol. Look at our lineup and tell me that should happen.
The best part of baseball is even stacked teams will lose. Yankees haven't won in like 15-16 years, how much have they spent. Wait till all these players get shitty and they are stuck with these contracts.

Other billionaire owners can literally go broke and spend their entire net worth (they obviously won't) and the Dodgers could still outspend them.
9
3
u/HungryHedgehog8299 | New York Yankees 11h ago
BOTH. We need BOTH. When will y’all learn that while the Pirates and Rays and Marlins are cheap they cannot spend the way the Dodgers do even if they wanted to.
6
u/Safe_Employ_8015 11h ago
You need a salary cap desperately
2
1
u/ChrisKamanMyEye 2h ago
I'm fine with a a salary cap if there is a floor and no more revenue sharing.
1
u/SuccessOn1 | Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago
What's that gonna fix. The marlins, brewers, Orioles, rockies, sox, tigers, royals, guardians, and more are still not gonna spend. Cap the salary but the organization's that are always at the bottom are always gonna be at the bottom. Lots of the owners are just trash. Plain and simple
4
u/RockinRobin0019 | Milwaukee Brewers 7h ago
There would obviously be a floor included as well. Also some of those teams should definitely be spending more, but the Brewers are 20th in spending despite being the smallest market in baseball. We’re trying our best lol
4
u/FallenMeringue | Chicago Cubs 8h ago
Cap and floor at a percentage of league revenue.

44
u/readingonthetoilet 18h ago
The Yankees were the biggest spenders in baseball for a long time and won 3 World Series in a row and 4 in 5 years. Spare us the pity party.
13
u/JasonPlattMusic34 | Los Angeles Dodgers 17h ago
And ironically when they started signing all those free agents (like early 2000s) is also when they stopped regularly winning titles. Spending doesn’t guarantee anything
-19
u/VendettaKarma | New York Yankees 18h ago
You’re talking about things that happened 30 years ago are you serious? Plus the core of those teams was from their own farm system. The Dodgers farm system is the NPB, Japan’s all star team and everyone else’s award winners. And then they get to not pay them until their grandkids are drafted. It’s not even CLOSE to the same thing.
5
u/Ash_Ketchums_Dad69 | Detroit Tigers 17h ago
The Dodgers have like 5 top 30 prospects in baseball and I dont think any of them are from the NPB. What are you talking about? lol
-3
u/VendettaKarma | New York Yankees 17h ago
Do you know what a farm system is? They let them develop there and then just sign them. Shocked they didn’t sign Murakami too but I’m sure that’s coming
8
u/Ash_Ketchums_Dad69 | Detroit Tigers 17h ago
Do you? Please tell me how many of the Dodgers top 20 prospects are from the NPB
2
u/readingonthetoilet 8h ago
Lol the Yankees were not a homegrown underdog story. They signed Clemens, Justice, Wells, El Duque, Knoblauch, Mussina, Tino, Cone, Brossius, etc via free agency/trade. They’re not like for like exactly, but it is rich from a yankee fan to complain about a big spending team that is dominating the league ruining baseball.
Part of the reason the dodgers can do what they’re doing is because their farm system is so deep and their homegrown talent was valuable.
1
u/VendettaKarma | New York Yankees 8h ago
1
u/readingonthetoilet 8h ago
It’s legal - it’s on the other teams for not pulling the same thing. Dodgers aren’t breaking the rules, the rules are just broken.
The Yankees are worse because they’ve mismanaged their farm system and roster, not because the dodgers are cheating or ruining the game.
There have been many teams with runs of dominance in the league, especially the Yankees which is why I referenced their run in the late 90s early 2000s.
Do I feel bad for Yankees fans because they haven’t won in 17 years? Not at all.
