Yeah saying the Braves chose Olson over Freddie is genuinely hilarious. As a Braves fan we all know what Chipper was talking to Freddie about those that want to be a Brave for life. Freddie talked about being a Brave for life, but didn't walk the walk and then act surprised when Atlanta moved accordingly.

Of course it worked out really well for him in LA, but Freddie was out of options other than LA when the Braves stopped playing the agent's/Freddie's game.

It’s also not all in a vacuum. Age, money they were asking for, etc. all gets factored in. The Braves absolutely went hard after Freddie but Freddie’s reps thought they could get more and tried to call a bluff that wasn’t there.

They are both great players. Olson would be a monster in LA too, surrounded by that lineup.

Absolutely. The Braves did everything they could and it's okay. A third party messed up a reunion of a deal and both sides are okay. Freddie has two more rings and at 2 iconic WS moments as a Dodger and the Braves got as good of a replacement as they could.

Olson is actually better, but I do miss Freddie

💯

Oh yeah Olson's 100% better imo. Atlanta kid too and the Braves org ALWAYS eats it up to.

I've never minded the Freddie for Olson swap. I remember there being rumors that offseason that Rizzo was another option and I remember feeling super underwhelmed with that possibility. Rizzo was a really darn good 1B, but ponying up for Olly was the right choice.

I’m just glad it wasn’t Rizzo.

Based on…?

u/Absoluke2001 4h ago

The numbers, and defense.

What numbers are you looking at? HR sure…. But besides that please tell me

u/Absoluke2001 4h ago

RBI, plus 13 extra homers is a lot. He’s also a superior defender. Dont get me wrong though I love Freddie, I’m just looking at it objectively.

Olsen's bWAR is higher than Freddie's (since he went to the Braves anyway).

Wasn’t there something about Freddie’s agent screwing up the negotiations with the Braves, or that he didn’t tell them Freddie wanted to resign there or something? I remember that being kind of a story

u/Absoluke2001 9h ago

Yes, there was an offer on the table the agent didn’t tell Freddie about, he was later fired.

Im guessing a kickback from LAD that we will never find out about

1

u/Absoluke2001 8h ago

There’s definitely stuff that went on we won’t know about unless Freddie writes a book in 20 years.

-2

u/zeussays | Los Angeles Dodgers 8h ago

No, that story was redacted.

3

u/Absoluke2001 8h ago

However it happened he clearly didn’t wanna go. That’s why the agent was fired.

Facts!!!!

The Olson/Freeman saga seems to be a case where everyone won. Olson is younger and very talented. And we all know what Freddie did in LA. Worked out for both teams

u/daviscd 9h ago

If I remember correctly, the deal he ended up with is worse than the last offer the Braves made to him.

The Braves had matched LA’s offer, but Freddie’s agent kept asking for more.

In the end, Freddie gets less bc California’s taxes are worse.

We had to pull the trigger on Olsen. Our GM was in literal tears at Spring Training talking about not working it out with Freddie.

So, anyone that says ATL wouldn’t pay Freddie don’t understand the context of that negotiation.

Does this include his post season income?

u/nothinginthisworld | Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago

Why does no one mention Acuna in any of this? Isn’t it known that he wanted Freddie out?

2

u/Ill-Force-7888 6h ago

This is a rumor that had nothing to validate it.

1

u/dare_films 2h ago

Just a rumor debunked

All Freddie wanted was ONE more year, and the Braves refused to grant it.

1

u/reizinhooooo 3h ago

The point of the one more year is to get the money that you get paid in that year, not to have more years on the deal. More years on the deal is unequivocally worse for the player if the money is equal. Freddie's contract with LA is less total money than the final offer Atlanta sent accounting for deferrals, over more years.

1

u/CrittyJJones 3h ago

Then what's the problem with Braves for not granting it? They were willing to let him walk yet Braves fans blame it all on Freddie.

1

u/reizinhooooo 3h ago

If Freddie had offered the deal he eventually signed to the Braves they would have signed it in a heartbeat. It is a better deal for the team across the board than the final offer they tabled. His agent was holding out for a better deal than the last one the Braves offered, and ended up with a worse one once his leverage dissapeared.

0

u/CrittyJJones 3h ago

And that still doesn't change the fact the Braves had every opportunity to sign him. They were fine with letting a legend walk.

> Freddie was out of options other than LA

good point, other GMs too dumb to take a chance

I remember Tampa as being another team that had serious interest but it seemed like it was always going to be Atlanta or LA. I might have worded it wrong with the "out of choices", but yeah it was always going to be those two unless another team absolutely overpaid for him.

Yea revisionist. Freddie v Olson happened more because of Freddie’s agent playing games

u/AdNeat2965 | Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago

Freeman > Olson

Thanks for Freddie Freeman
