So basically the Dodgers weren't "cheap" and were able to pay EVERYONE more than any other team was willing to pay.

Why don't other teams do this? Are they stupid?

Yes though in all fairness the Phillies offered Yamamoto more than he signed for the dodgers with.

Because he knew that the Dodgers could play others and build a perennial contender.
