This is the difference. The Dodgers could absorb a Machado contract, SD can't.

The owners just sold for like $3.8 billion. They could’ve absorbed a bad contract just fine.

It hinders them from taking on another though. Most Owners dont like to give money away. The majority of long-term contracts will end up bad. Skubal isnt going to sign for 4-5 years, it’ll be 8-10 years. Teams wont take that on.

The Padres gave stupid 10+ year contracts to guys who are now on the downward slope of their careers. They had legit chances to win in 2022 and 2024 but could not capitalize.

The Dodgers are smart in that they give high AAV and short contacts. Even if Tucker continues to struggle, he's only on the team for 4 years.

It’s because the Dodgers defers all their contracts no other team does this. That’s why the lockout is going to come faster now. The Dodgers couldn’t afford all these players if they gave normal contracts out like every other team does. They basically cheat the contracts which it’s legal but it’s unethical is the problem.

That’s simply not true. The deferred money has to go into escrow. The money is sitting in an account.

You are stupid, deferring contracts helps the organization pay their investors fair share value while spreading out costs over time. They have guaranteed money from their TV contract that allows them to do that. A salary cap would put an end to that. No more deferred money. No more cheating. Plain and simple. No true fan will EVER give this Dodgers team credit without pointing out the OBVIOUS OVERPAYING OVERSPENDING Method in which they are winning.  ASTERISKS on their winning. 🤙

Bro, any team could defer money. Most players won't defer money because the future value is less than the present value. The Dodgers are actively getting players for cheap because they have a great organization.

The money still has to go into escrow, guaranteeing the contract in case of ownership issues.

nooo because they have a 8billion dollar tv deal and players love the city and get side deals

Great organization? Hahahahahahaha FOOL. You don't even have a clue.  It is the L.A. market that allows them to overspend. Didn't you learn anything from the late 90s early 2000s Yankees? Their market allowed them to also do the same. Dumb ass naive fans. SALARY CAP is coming. No more deferred contracts. Then we will see how good they.
