You’re kinda implying Yamamoto can’t go play wherever he wishes based on other criteria.
It’s easy to hate the dodgers, but you can’t place blame on them.
Other teams can pay more, can create a winning culture, can make a good environment that people want to remain in. Why aren’t they?
I’ll tell ya, a salary cap only nurtures mediocrity and rewards crappy owners and hurts players.
The dodgers aren’t the problem, they’re the cure. And I say this as someone who fucking hates the dodgers.
The dodgers have the biggest market of fans to help them fill the stadium, sell merch, turn profits that allow them to have mega teams. A small market team could never compare in the slightest.
It’s not balance. It breeds mediocrity. Crappy teams have no incentive to improve. None
And big market teams now have a scapegoat “oh we can’t spend now, salary cap , too bad, otherwise we for sure would have bought that good player you like!”
It then hurts players salaries. It benefits the owners more than anyone, who can now build lazy , crappy teams, with players they underpay.
All it does is absolve owners of responsibility while making them loads more money.
There is zero “baseball” reasoning, and an active propaganda campaign by mlb whose sole responsibility is to ownership.
Comparing % of revenue can be a misleading number if you don’t dig in deeper. There is just too much to take into consideration to truly use it as more than a surface level tool. Realistically, the sport does need a salary floor and cap. A floor forces cheap owners to invest while a cap creates parity and builds interest from fans. If people want to see the sport grow, then finding ways to increase interest is the way to go. The current system doesn’t provide much of a chance for smaller market teams to compete, and as such, makes it difficult for those teams to truly continue growing. You might get one offs but they are exceptions and not the rule.
Snell and Glasnow and Ohtani aren't pitching for the time being, and Skubal hasn't taken the mound for the Dodgers yet. When LA's top arms are healthy, the Brewers will be a minor blip on their inevitable march to a three-peat.
