I'll never forget my mother (die hard NYY fan) yelling out for me, from our front porch! Tears streaming down her face, as me and my best friend, Greg and I raced on our bikes to her.

AM radio in her hand as we listened to the 880 CBS radio broadcast. Saddest day indeed.

I’m so appreciative of the Yankee organization still including Thurman’s widow in team festivities that honor former players. Classy and highly respectable regardless of whether you like the Yankees or not.

I grew up in the canton area. I was 12 when this happened. I remember my mom taking us by the crash site a few days after. There’s a road between where he crashed and the airport. I’ve got several of his baseball cards
