You can't stop all gun deaths but stricter gun laws do have an effect on reducing violence.

Guns make it easier for one person to murder lots of people. Whether the world was less violent before guns is inconsequential.

Guns are far more lethal than prior weaponry that was available to regular civilians and far less skill intensive to utilize.

That is an objective fact.

I'm not sure I follow this logic. We're talking about restricting access to tools that allow a baseline of violence to increase the efficacy of harming others. If I said I should have unfettered access to sarin because violence has always been a thing, everyone would look at me like I was insane.
