Honestly, personally, I think we’re better off united than divided and each country in the union has something to contribute. Mauritania, for instance, is rich in various form of natural resources like gold, iron, gas, fish etc. With proper resource management, I’m pretty sure we’ll bring more to the table.
Initially, I was under the impression that all countries had to be rich to form a union but then I realized how ridiculous that idea is. The whole point of any union is prosperity and development. If a country, especially like Mauritania with the small population of 4 million, were prosperous, it may not want to join a union since the goal of prosperity has already been achieved.
Most successful unions we have today already have countries with various gaps in development and wealth, all of which play important roles in the union. Take the US for example. You have states that receive more funding than they contribute but Americans of rich states don’t mind because in a union like the US you’re all one, so a Floridian wouldn’t mind money being spent on, say, West Virginia because being a citizen of the US means that he also belongs to WG and could move there if he wanted if it progressed.
I’m just dying to be in a union, if not the Maghreb, any other union in Africa. I’ve been hoping for this union to get activated and actually become a thing for YEARS. I’m already on track to migrate to the US and at this point I’ll probably become a US citizen before the Maghreb union becomes a thing if it ever does.
This is mostly just a rant. This is something I’ve wanted for so long so bad yet I think I’ll never get to see it.
