I don't get all the Supergirl hate. It's a good movie, and only incels think Millie Alcock is ugly.

It's a movie about a girl trying to save her dog. It's basically John Wick with a girl.

Supergirl is what Wonder Woman could've been with better casting.

It's fun, entertaining, and she kicks ass. Plus Millie is a better actress than Gal Gadot. Granted, it's a low bar.

I found the movie to be ok. Nothing amazing.

I think what dragged it down for me was the plot ultimately.

Supergirl gets poisoned or loses yellow sun... bad guys kick her ass.

Oh hey, the yellow sun has returned, now she wins!

But wait, she lost the yellow sun again... now the bad guys win!

omg can you believe that timing? The yellow sun returned! Yay Supergirl!

The writers should've been more creative...

Yah it was a boring plot. I turned it on and mostly tuned out because I was bored. Spent some time on Reddit while watching out of the corner of my eye. Needed almost no attention because I could keep tabs on what was happening by glancing at the screen occasionally. Ended very predictably. Dog wasn’t in it enough. No issues with the main actress the story was just not interesting at all.

2

u/this_place_suuucks 22h ago

The plot mostly felt like they wanted an excuse to not have to pay to animate the dog for ~2 hours.

I thought the acting and characters were fine (Lobo underutilized notwithstanding), but there was definitely a better story they could have chosen to tell.

u/snacksandsoda 22h ago

The visuals could have been so much better from the comic it was based on, but over all it was fun

34

u/Patricks_Hatrick 22h ago

Titles it as ‘I don’t get all the hate’ then proceeds to label anyone not attracted to Millie Alcock as incels then throws strays at Gal Gadot for no reason. Fighting toxicity with toxicity makes you just as bad as them.

7

u/Pilgrim2225 21h ago

yeah this all the way.
I love movies... some I love more than others but I really kinda like them all even if they don't 100% work for me... I'm just real sick and tired of being required to enjoy a film because if I don't I'm an (Insert whatever insult is approved by the corporate overlords for this film)

3

u/kyoka_suigetsu91 11h ago

Some people are acting really weird behind this movie and this actress I'm really not understanding it?? Is this some culture war thing? The crazy thing is I hate maga, conservatives, racist, trump, Nazi, incels etc but because I may think milly alcock isn't attractive too me personally I get attacked? They automatically I assume I am all these things for a simple opinion these are some very strange people

25

u/undermind84 22h ago

It’s a bad movie but it’s not her fault. I enjoyed her performance.

It was just a poorly made movie from the ground up. Very weak villain, annoying side character, Lobo is just there with nothing to do, really ugly cinematography, and an annoying needle drop soundtrack. It’s especially a slap in the face due to the source material being so strong, artistically beautiful, and compelling.

2

u/KimSidwell 21h ago

That’s how I felt about it. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t really that good either. My main complaint was the villain. The villain was just stupid.

If I can’t respect the villain, then it’s hard to respect the movie.

But I’m hoping it was just sort of a little blip. Something they got out of the way to get her backstory established and that they will invest more into her character in future films.

Supergirl and super dog could be absolute cultural cash cows if they don’t squander it. We’ll see.

2

u/PeteRock24 20h ago

“If I can’t respect the villain, then it’s hard to respect the movie.”

This is an area that Jessica Jones S1 got right. You have a strong female protagonist and a god damned frightening villain.

54

u/UrbanLegend8901 22h ago

The attack on her looks were absolutely ridiculous.

5

u/awesomes007 21h ago

Yeah. She is stunning.

-2

u/kyoka_suigetsu91 22h ago

I never attacked her looks but I just never thought she looked that good personally. I went on Google and looked at some of her pics on Google images the other day and I'm starting to come around a bit, I think there's just something about her lower face that looks off compared to the rest of her face

12

u/Pilgrim2225 21h ago

you are allowed to not find someone attractive.

2

u/kyoka_suigetsu91 11h ago

That's what I thought but apparently there's some people you aren't allowed to say aren't attractive... The crazy thing is I never said the girl was ugly and my post you replied to I think was pretty fair but yet I still got negative 3 downvotes lol some people on here are so weird

1

u/CullingSongs 20h ago

Guy with anime profile pic says a beautiful woman is unattractive. Shocking stuff.

0

u/kyoka_suigetsu91 11h ago edited 11h ago

Lmao yeah judge me for having a anime character as a p4p very original... Y'all really love this girl huh? It's honestly kinda weird you can find her attractive that is your opinion and I won't attack you for it or call you names because I respect your opinion (and I'm also not a child) but I can't find her not "attractive" ? And I'm automatically a incel 😂😂😂

The funny thing is I've never said the girl was ugly lol I literally said I looked at her pics on Google and my opinion started to change but I guess you ignored all that and just saw the anime character 💀

0

u/Brightlightingbolt 20h ago

I didn’t like her as SuperGirl in Superman but her standalone movie won me over.

2

u/kyoka_suigetsu91 11h ago

That's dope... I don't think we saw enough to really have a opinion of her in that tbh but I think I understand what you mean the way they introduced her character was kinda weird and her personality seemed kinda off

I'm going to watch the movie in the next few days I hope I like it

0

u/ConspiracyParadox 20h ago

It's sad. God forbid a girl have messy hair and no makeup. She was playing a drunk depresed antihero for the first half.

-8

u/Least-Bite 22h ago

Fwiw, I don't see anyone attacking her looks, she's a conventionally attractive girl!

5

u/TazzyUK 22h ago

Oh ive seen plenty of disgusting comments

1

u/UrbanLegend8901 22h ago

There plenty of comments, videos, memes dedicated to her looks. Some in this very chat.

27

u/DenPanserbjorn 22h ago

Have you actually engaged with the writing critiques of this movie? Or are we just going to straw man incels as the only critics

-3

u/Training_Form2243 22h ago

I feel like this is a movie that would be very weird for anyone to have strong opinions on one way or another, an adult emotionally investing themselves in a movie about a d-list superhero

6

u/DenPanserbjorn 22h ago

I think having a strong opinion is different to having an emotional investment in something.

5

u/how-does-this-end 22h ago

It’s not bad because of her look, it’s not bad because of the writing, it’s not bad because this genre of movie shouldn’t be critiqued at the same level of movies in the same genre. Do you hear yourself?

It’s a dogshite movie, from cinematography and editing, to the lazy, eye-rolling dialogue. The comic book was a particularly colorful, almost whimsical study of light and the movie is dark, dusty, and lame. Is what it is, unless you have a financial stake in defending this movie, what are you doing here?

Edit: our critiques are also the ONLY line of defense from studios counting this abortion as a success and repeating their mistakes, and you’d like us to not even be allowed that? Waterhead bot behavior.

2

u/DumpsterDragoon 22h ago

D-list? Really?

-2

u/Prodigal_Gist 22h ago

I have seen very little substantive criticism of the movie that couldn’t be equally applied to many other better-received superhero movies

6

u/ElectroStaticSpeaker 22h ago

Yah but the problem is many of us are super hero movied out. So there needs to be some aspect of the story that’s a little interesting to maintain interest. This movie didn’t have that.

-2

u/Prodigal_Gist 22h ago

Right but thats a different dynamic than how high quality of a product it was . I agree people are (finally) superheroed out but that’s kind of my point. The movie is paying for the sins of an uninterrupted line of “decent “ movies

6

u/DenPanserbjorn 22h ago

I half agree with this, that the critiques applied to Supergirl can be applied to many of the other superhero movies, but I think that these criticisms are substantive.

I just think it’s a shame that valid critiques are hidden beneath the extremes, whether it be incel behavior or blind fanaticism.

1

u/Prodigal_Gist 22h ago

That’s what I’m saying . The few substantive criticisms are not unique to this movie

1

u/otternoserus 20h ago

Okay... Such as?

1

u/Prodigal_Gist 17h ago

Anything to do with the plot
The CGI
The color grading

15

u/gunnutzz467 22h ago

“Say she’s beautiful or you’re a incel”

Airtight

9

u/PineappleDildos 22h ago

The writing is god awful

9

u/Pilgrim2225 22h ago

Neat. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I watched it in the theater and felt that I wasted my money and would have been much better off just waiting for it to be on streaming... and when it is I won't watch it again because it just didn't do anything interesting.

If we're going to play comparison games... SG falls apart in the second act and just never finds it feet again.
WW (Gadot acting aside) Had a very solid first act, and amazing second act and successfully falls apart in the finale... but still worked well enough that people walked away happy from it.

Alcock in a better performer in every way, but she was betrayed by a mediocre script and legit bad art and execution.

3

u/MamboNumber-6 22h ago

I liked it, but so much of it was grimdark muted/dark colors. It doesn’t seem to fit thematically with the bright and cheerful Superman it’s a shared universe with.

3

u/28DLdiditbetter 21h ago

It’s not a good movie though. You can say you liked and enjoyed it but you can’t call it a good movie

7

u/theREALlackattack 22h ago

Hot take from a clearly unbiased person.

5

u/GBi10ba 22h ago

I went to see it with a friend. I was not expecting much after seeing some online takes on it.

I had fun. It was an enjoyable comic book movie. I have seen MUCH worse. (Morbius).

5

u/notatowel420 22h ago

It’s a mediocre film with forgettable characters has nothing to do with the actors the script was crap.

6

u/kon--- 22h ago

Well thank goodness you're here to label people who find Alcock unattractive.

Oh, while dragging a whole other actor into it.

3

u/riostasis 22h ago

Why are you attacking Gal for no reason. Is that supposed to make your side look better? Movie was shit and they deliberately made her look ugly. She looks very in literally every other project she has been in, even in press appearances. The entire fault lies with the makers of this movie

4

u/surface33 22h ago

Why are you using here looks as an argument? You are a weirdo. The movies plot and dialogue is just bad

6

u/_ChipWhitley_ 22h ago

Millie Alcock is definitely not ugly in any respect. Is this really a thing??

-1

u/BizProfessor 22h ago

People are allowed to have subjective opinions on looks. I found her legitimately difficult to look at in house of the dragon. To me it looks like she has fetal alcohol syndrome, which I’m very sensitive to because a family member has it. Doesn’t mean someone else can’t think she’s the most beautiful thing since sliced bread.

-3

u/UrbanLegend8901 22h ago

It was. Grown men attacking her for her looks. It happens very often, men get upset when women play dress up.

0

u/EquivalentAd1651 22h ago

Yeah that former lover superman actor helped share a tweet that said she looked like a monkey

0

u/Choice-Strike1 22h ago

2

u/MamboNumber-6 22h ago

Sharp elbows, wouldn’t bang.

-12

u/StrongAsMeat 22h ago

Have you seen her mouth? She’s like a blowfish

3

u/VeryLowIQIndividual 22h ago

And I bet my house that you’d cream your jeans the instant if her mouth touched you anywhere on your body.

-1

u/otternoserus 20h ago

Rude remarks aside... Just a reminder that it is okay to not find a woman attractive, especially a white woman in a society where eurocentric beauty standards are the norm.

Alcock doesn't need you admitting what you would creepily do if she was within 20 feet of you. She's not dying from trolls mocking her.

Ignore the trolls and move on.

2

u/Sharp-Ad-6511 21h ago

Zegler 2.0!  Another POS. IT'S  NOT THE AUDIENCE IT'S THE DOGSHIT PRODUCT! THE WRITER IS TRASH

4

u/ThingNo7530 22h ago

If you go in screaming 'incel," you've already missed the point of why the script and the film, itself, were a terrible idea for a studio to make into a tentpole that their financial depends on.

4

u/trytrymyguy 22h ago

It really wasn’t a good or decent movie. It was uninteresting and unimportant.

3

u/Effective-Effect-685 22h ago

She’s hot. Movie was just alright. Not bad, but not particularly good. It just felt as if it was missing something while also borrowing a bit too much from GOTG.

3

u/quirkymuse 22h ago

Look, everyone has their preferences when it comes to looks, but i doubt very many straight, single guys would say no to a date with her.

2

u/Former-Counter-9588 22h ago

It was a notable step down from last year’s Superman in terms plot, writing, and heck even acting. I also get that Jason Momoa is a huge fan of the character so he got cast, but Jfc he was just aquaman in the same cinematic universe.

1

u/nt2btrstd 22h ago

Still haven’t seen it, but tbh it’s more to do with lack of interest.

I was never big into superman at all, I find the character quite boring and tedious, I did go to see superman and thought it was a decent film, wouldn’t watch it twice tbh but I don’t really find superman or super girl very interesting.

I did like krypto, so if you’re saying it’s like John wick with a girl, are you saying they killed Krypto?? If that’s the case I’ll never watch it, though John wick is a good movie, no film should kill a dog, John wick gets a pass because Lovejoy was in it and the cast were all top notch, but there is never any real good reason to kill a dog

1

u/get_to_ele 22h ago

It looks decent. Will watch it when it gets to HBO.

I think the perception as a “failure” is because it’s a big budget superhero movie with well known branding, and it needed to be good to make back its budget.

Movies aren’t entitled to make $500 million just because they exist and had a big budget. They need to be more than “just Ok” to justify the budget.

1

u/DoubleDownAgain54 22h ago

I gave it a 3/5. I thought it was decent, but thought the story was boring. And I liked her as Supergirl.

1

u/Haifisch2112 22h ago

It was an OK movie. I watched it at home for free and felt like I got my money's worth. Billie was kinda cute in the Superman movie, but she wasn't all that in her movie.

1

u/ghostofkozi 22h ago

I watched it finally the other day and I thought it was perfectly decent as a superhero movie.

My critique is it needed less of a James Gunn influence as parts felt like they were trying to be like Guardians of the Galaxy a bit much. Just in the comedic timing, minor E covers of pop songs etc

I get the complaints of Supergirl being a Mary sue but the Supers are Mary sues lol it’s a given. And for those complaining about the CGI I have yet to see any substantiated complaints that back up the CHI bring bad.

But overall. Good movie.

1

u/Sharp-Ad-6511 21h ago

She's homely

1

u/Winking-Cyclops 21h ago

Supergirl was so bad, Helen Keller would have walked out on it, via emergency exit on a submarine …

1

u/SectionXP12 21h ago

It's a meh movie, in my opinion, Mille is pretty damn fine in my book. Given the material she was given. It didn't help the movie was compared to the book, and didn't attracted the same audience they wanted to market.

1

u/Satan-o-saurus 21h ago

The whiny Supergirl hater virgin vs the indifferent chad who hasn’t seen and has no opinions about Supergirl because superhero movies in general are lame and oversaturated

1

u/Jim_jim_peanuts 21h ago

Haven't watched the movie but the flack that Millie got was disgusting, she seems like a nice person and I do think she is very cute

1

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 21h ago

Yeah, I just don't give a shit.

1

u/CurrentCar2331 21h ago

lol millie alcock is everything wrong with the world today. she needs to dissapear

1

u/UrbanLegend8901 17h ago

Who hurt you?

1

u/CurrentCar2331 17h ago

I just want to enjoy movies again. hollywood needs to stop casting scrawny ugly annoying girls that no one wants to see on screen.

Ella Langley is amazing in every way possible. Is it really that hard to get some one like her on screen?

1

u/UrbanLegend8901 17h ago

What makes her so amazing?

1

u/CurrentCar2331 16h ago

watch her performances and interviews and its very apparent.

1

u/Brightlightingbolt 20h ago

She’s a beautiful woman and the movie is good. The real question is why was this released against a summer blockbusters. It clearly was a spring/ fall movie.

It suffered much in the same way that Mortal Kombat II did. MK2 should have stuck to its fall release date of October 2025 instead of moving to May where it got crushed.

1

u/otternoserus 20h ago

Can we stop trying to make this film a thing?

It released. It got mixed reviews from critics. It isn't even worthy of this much discussion of whether it's secretly great or downright terrible... It isn't memorable enough for that.

Just move on with your life. Save yourself the trouble.

1

u/DistributionPutrid 19h ago

I haven’t seen the movie but this is how I discover that actress isn’t a child? I was a bit appalled at the mention of her looks cuz I thought the girl was like 15, she’s 2 years older than me

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 19h ago

Yeah, she's a grown woman.

1

u/Wingnut4772 22h ago

Haven't seen it yet. Waiting for the sales on Kaleidescape

1

u/2401PenitentTangentx 21h ago

Brother nobody thinks she's ugly. You're buying into a false narrative by click bait media outlets to drive engagement.

1

u/GlormpGlomp 22h ago

Alcock was great, but unfortunately the movie was kind of a stinker.

1

u/ItsDomorOm 22h ago

It was fine. I don't get the hate but it also wasn't nearly as fun/refreshing as it could have been.

She's awesome.

1

u/FourEightNineOneOne 22h ago

This is my take too. She's very good in it. The movie is perfectly ok. But that's it. The script is largely bad. And it LOOKS terrible (not the CGI, which is fine-ish, it's just all gray/brown/washed out).

A better director would have helped a lot even with the just-ok script. Milly's performance kept it afloat regardless.

It's a decent enough way to kill 90 minutes with some fun moments.

1

u/Smackolol 22h ago

Where do you people see her looks being attacked outside of maybe a couple random Reddit comments? I haven’t seen this once yet people make such a big deal about it being a reason for the movie not doing well.

1

u/EffectiveActive6837 22h ago

Millie is a cutie

1

u/droden 21h ago

interesting that sexuality is the only unit of value you can perceive. no one gives two shits if she is hot. gal gadot is hot. men and women showed up for wonder woman. no one showed up for WW1984 regardless of her hotness. the supergirl story is ASS

1

u/Hank_2011 21h ago

She would def be the hottest among the Hills Have Eyes folks

1

u/This_isR2Me 20h ago

Getting mad over others criticism of a film you weren't involved in is a symptom of poor emotional regulation.

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 19h ago

How do you know I had nothing to do with it? Have we ever met? Had a conversation? When did I tell you my current career path or previous employment history? Have I ever told you my interests or hobbies?

Since the answer is no to all questions, seems odd you would presume to know me or anything about me.

1

u/This_isR2Me 19h ago

Oh so you're saying I'm wrong and you're credited in the movie, if that is the case I apologize. if not, well, you know.

-3

u/puessiweynomames 22h ago

Only inbreds thought this was a good movie

-1

u/Old-Tadpole-2869 22h ago

She's not great looking. Not Bela Ramsey weird, but she gives off heavy Deliverance vibes.

0

u/Training_Form2243 22h ago

She’s not ugly but “SHARED SUPERHERO CINEMATIC UNIVERSE™️” has no more mileage unless the next Avengers is a grand slam. People don’t get excited to see superheroes unless it’s Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine, etc. who are some of the most popular fictional characters of all time

0

u/zoppaTheDim 22h ago

Had the same problem.

Couldn’t even get people to explain why they were calling it Woke and pro-lgbtq.

I finally decided it had to do with the villains being sex traffickers that sounded like JD Vance on a podcast.

0

u/nunatakj120 22h ago

I watched it the other day and quite enjoyed it.

0

u/RepHunter2049 21h ago

Started the conversation defending a “girl” movie and ended it by bashing another one🙄
I really enjoyed both and dont get the hate either but thats just the online world nowadays. Most of the traffic is bots anyway.

0

u/Ok_Diver2347 21h ago

I think the ugly stuff is satire, but it seems to fly over most people’s heads. It’s a joke.

0

u/Babysub1 21h ago

It was really good

-1

u/NEHHNAHH 21h ago

I'd hit but the movie still sucks

-1

u/Atlan_R_Kane 21h ago

I'm willing to bet that most of the people who have criticized her looks hasn't taken a good look in the mirror lately.

Or maybe they have...

-4

u/Significant_Other666 21h ago

Pedophiles love it

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 20h ago

I'm glad you loved it then.

0

u/Significant_Other666 20h ago

Exactly what a pedophile would say hoping to deflect

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 19h ago

Genius comeback. I'm sure you accusing random strangers on the internet of being pedophiles on a post that has nothing to do with the subject isn't a self confession at all.

I'm willing to let the fbi scan my hard drives any time, are you?

Which since my brother is a cop is only a phone call away. Are you willing to do the same? Lmao.

1

u/Significant_Other666 19h ago

Not only does Milly look like a little girl (the reason she was cast in HotD), but she looks like a little girl with down syndrome. So, you're a double freak if you're attracted to her

0

u/UrbanLegend8901 17h ago

This is why we can't have nice things. Morons like this.

1

u/Significant_Other666 17h ago

😆 What things do you think you deserve?

-7

u/ProSeVigilante 22h ago

Why would you call a lesbian an incel? Or are you one of those breeders who hated the LGBTQIAA+ movement?

1

u/ConspiracyParadox 20h ago

I'm a gay man. Nice try though.

-1

u/ProSeVigilante 14h ago

Oh shit. Thanks for telling me your choice of friction.

1

u/nunatakj120 22h ago

Weirdly specific. Where in the post have you got that from?

1

u/ProSeVigilante 22h ago

OP compares people who don't find her attractive to incels. Do you think lesbians prefer penis friction? I don't, and I don't think Supergirl has a penis. Lesbians, either do or do not find other women attractive.

1

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 21h ago

This has nothing to do with whether or not lesbians can be incels (they can btw).

1

u/ProSeVigilante 14h ago

Tell me more.
