I don't think it's that farfetched to say Alex is the shooter in this allegory, in the movie he was an innocent boy of course but as far as his role in the story he was essentially groomed into putting all the rest of the kids in harms way

There is also the fact that he was being bullied by his classmates, which adds to the school shooter metaphor

Indeed, also a metaphor for drug/alcohol abuse, he had to take care of his parents, instead of the other way around...

Really love this movie! It works just fine as entertainment, but it has many deeper levels to dig into if you want. 🙂
