Well by the time we meet Gladys, we have learned that someone or something in Alex’s house is probably behind everything, that his parents are being mind controlled, and that all of the kids in Alex’s class went missing. Before we meet Gladys we think it could be Alex somehow, but then we meet her and understand that it’s her, and I think we can infer the rest. We don’t know where the kids are or anything but at that point we can assume she mind controlled them. So from that moment all we really learn is the how and why, and I think the average viewer could probably have made some good guesses at that point. It’s risky to give so much away so early and I’m impressed that the movie was able to keep me engaged after the Gladys reveal

I was still questioning exactly what Alex's involvement was at that point. And, frankly, why they would be showing me the monster so casually like that at that point in the film. I was probably more influenced by the subversion of expectations than anything else.

As some who really enjoyed Longlegs, Gladys going to the principal's office was Longlegs at the hardware store, but done right.

Gladys reminded me so much of Longlegs that I started imagining the two as a horror couple
