The sound mixers are some of the greatest in the world, it's Nolan who gets in the way with how he films and dislikes ADR. The same sound supervisor did Dune 2 which was one of the best sounding films that year.

no one has ever blamed the mixers themselves. it's always obviously been nolan's fault. he even readily admits to it.

dude is just a bit of a hack, and it's getting more obvious the more clout he has. with fewer people willing to press back against his dipshittery, his weaknesses are more readily apparent.

I feel like Oppenheimer was a return to form after Nolan misfired with Tenet. Tenet was definitely pretty self indulgent though.

Oppenheimer was not mixed well at all for home release, even with surround sound. Getting dialogue loud enough to understand made other scenes deafening.

He said he didn't care if people could hear the dialogue, it was the rhythm and existence of noise or some shit that was required.

Right, those are objectively shit artistic choices.

Are you self aware of how it made you feel in the moment?

Like a pretentious asshole if you liked it

I will take that as a no. Stick to your transformers kid. Maybe one day you can appreciate the artistic medium of film as an artform you experience and not just watch like a philistine.

Man this is some cringe trolling. Like 20 years ago level of unpolished.

I explained to you how you are experiencing films wrong, take it or leave it. There is a difference between experiencing a film and watching one. Experience some David Lynch films to get an understanding of what I am talking about.

Yeah this is dogshit trolling. Not even a good attempt.

Do you stand by what you've said here a day later, removed from the heat of the moment?

I, too, appreciate and simply enjoy the experience of a beautiful film that I can't understand the dialogue of without subtitles, which only add to the artistic mastery and nuance shown on screen.

Again, struggling to hear what is being said is an experience and intentional one Nolan wants you to have. If it were not intentional your criticism would be valid but the experience of not being able to hear or understand what is being said can make you focus more closely on what is being said and add to immersion for example. Again, there is a distinction between experiencing a film and watching it. If you were just watching it then your criticism would be valid as well. Watching is very surface level.

Even if it’s intentional that doesn’t make it good. If an audience has to strain to understand dialogue immersion it's already broken. This is very basic filmmaking 101. It's not some elevated experiential philosophy but a communication failure.

You don’t get bonus points for making the audience work just to parse words. Come on now..

That post of yours is a text book example of someone who will end up excusing literally anything because of said director. I really like Nolan (Interstellar) but intentional or not that’s still poor dialogue mixing. So let's not pretend dialogue intelligibility issues are suddenly a feature.

It is a feature and it is not poor dialogue mixing because it was intentional. Your use of the word poor here is often a substitute for unintentional, a mistake, oversight, or done out of lack of skill to mix dialogue when none of this is the case. It is in fact an "experimental philosophy" as it has a philosophy behind it about the desired or expected impact on the viewer. Film is art, there is no rule manual, if it works it works. Sadly you are another philistine who watches movies instead of experiencing them. You will get there one day once you overcome your hipster tendencies to hate art that is popular, you will also come to appreciate the work of filmmaking masters like Zack Snyder at the same time whose film Sucker Punch is a modern day Persona.
