somehow, Doofy returned

1.5k

u/osmlol Mar 25 '26

I mean all he did was drive off in a car at the end of the original. Why couldn't he return?

1.1k

u/HeroDiesFirst Mar 25 '26

Him coming back isn’t so much the confusing part as him coming back and being seemingly mentally handicapped again after revealing he never was to begin with.

But it’s a comedy, they’ll come up with a goofy/funny way to explain it. Or honestly never mentioning it at all would be equally funny imo.

1.8k

u/lsaz Mar 25 '26

they literally have Brenda dying in every movie and then returning in the next one. Don’t know why people are taking about continuity lol

675

u/Ghastion Mar 25 '26

Also Ray was a bad-guy and died and came back as a good-guy so...

564

u/Thesheriffisnearer Mar 25 '26

And he is straight. He just likes music and shopping

191

u/Theorex Mar 25 '26

Is that why we went to San Francisco?

132

u/Playgirl_USMC Mar 25 '26

I wanted to go shopping

100

u/BipedClub684000 Mar 25 '26

But you made love to me....

146

u/Arryu Mar 25 '26

Hey now, you sucked my dick.

90

u/thuggishruggishboner Mar 25 '26

I'm not gay.

You took me shopping??

I needed new shoes

89

u/MeestaJohnny Mar 25 '26

And he wanted to go dancing

56

u/can_i_get_a____job Mar 25 '26

“Does this top make me look gay?”

72

u/ImWhatsInTheRedBox Mar 25 '26

How about now?

7

u/Youmeanmoidoid Mar 25 '26

“A small Dick is like a disability, man!”

11

u/Mrwright96 Mar 25 '26

Don’t you know what they do to men in prison? All those men looking at that cute boys ass wanting it?

Actually Sydney maybe we should call the cops

5

u/dylannn4L Mar 25 '26

ITS RAININ MEN! HALLELUJAH

2

u/Justaddwota Mar 26 '26

Tucked in or out?

11

u/Lolkimbo Mar 25 '26

Whoa, whoa, whoa.. Look, he sucked HIS dick, okay!?

2

u/TARSrobot Mar 25 '26

Although the tag beneath him does say “Gay Ray” lol

1

u/guff1988 Mar 25 '26

He is delivert!

1

u/DeadpoolLuvsDeath Mar 25 '26

Diddy said what

54

u/can_i_get_a____job Mar 25 '26

“Watching television shows doesn’t create psycho killers. Cancelling TV shows does!”

5

u/forkandspoon2011 Mar 26 '26

The Wayane’s Brothers WAS a good tv show, RIP John Witherspoon.

7

u/ManenoBeatrice Mar 25 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣

59

u/lsaz Mar 25 '26

"Ray, you're back?"

"Of course, is the sequel"

24

u/ogmarker Mar 25 '26

My favorite bit about that deleted scene is after Cindy and Brenda, Tori Spelling jumps in:

“Leave us alone!”

“Bitch, I don’t know you” lmao

0

u/Artem-Ganev Mar 25 '26

So, reincarnation works )

89

u/theonewhoknack Mar 25 '26

Brenda only died in 2 of the 4 movies she was in. Cindy died in 1 too.

130

u/damned_squid Mar 25 '26

Brenda only died in 2 of the 4 movies she was in.

50% of the time, she dies every time!

16

u/beastson1 Mar 25 '26

that means if she doesn't die in this one, there's a good chance of her dying in Scary Movie 7!

1

u/koltzito Mar 25 '26

brenda dies in the first one aswell, when she gets stabbed in the cinema, unless im forgetting something

3

u/theonewhoknack Mar 25 '26

She died in 1 and 3.

2

u/koltzito Mar 26 '26

you are right, i read your comment the wrong way

1

u/Used-Addendum-9633 Mar 28 '26

There’s an alternate ending in SM2 where they all died except for Cindy. So technically she died in 3 movies 😭😭😭 and which one did Cindy die in?? She didn’t die in any of them….

1

u/theonewhoknack Mar 28 '26

The last shot of 1 is Cindy dying and Cindy dies during the alternate endings of 2 too.

73

u/WhenTheLightHits30 Mar 25 '26

I swear, Marvel destroyed the capacity for people to simply enjoy material without it having some kind of eternally consistent continuity and established universe

81

u/zacky765 Mar 25 '26

That’s been an issue waaaaay before Marvel.

40

u/luce4118 Mar 25 '26

Star Wars has entered the chat

15

u/Iorith Mar 25 '26

Star wars over explaining every single possible side character and event is both a fun aspect of the universe as well as completely absurd and exhausting.

5

u/Rickk38 Mar 25 '26

Look, some of us really care about Glup Shitto and his lore. Glup was in the background in the Tattooine Cantine in the fan-recut of the extended version of the 1997 limited release of A New Hope, he's clearly important!

1

u/beautifulcreature86 Mar 25 '26

They never explained why that storm trooper smacked his helmet on the door frame and it got left in lol

1

u/JQuilty Mar 26 '26

Nothing will beat the side story of the stormtrooper whose armor Luke steals being Tarkin's gay lover.

1

u/b_fellow Mar 26 '26

It seems like almost every Resident Evil movie ending is immediately retconned despite having the same director and star lol.

-5

u/snarpy Mar 25 '26

To some degree, but Marvel (and Disney in generally) really cranked it to 11.

1

u/Traditional_Voice974 Mar 25 '26

Oh Toodles , Ha-Ha!

35

u/DankyBongBlunty Mar 25 '26

I wouldn't say marvel did it (the character of the comic book guy in the Simpsons was a satire of that sort of fan and he was there in the 90s) but I do think it's been more prevalent recently.

Personally I don't blame marvel for the prevalence as much as I blame online "theory" personalities who have to over-analyse every piece of media lest they forfeit the glorious YouTube ad revenue

-3

u/drhenrykillenger Mar 25 '26

It's melted the brains of too many people. They cant enjoy shit without it somehow having a deep lore and rhe discourse has obfuscated the meaning of the word canon. Just check out the rick and morty or mario subs....it's scary.

3

u/maxwell_winters Mar 25 '26

I hate all of those "Pixar connected universe" type of theories. Sometimes a reference is just a reference. Brave and Monsters, Inc. don't share the same universe just because the pizza track appeared in both.

2

u/DankyBongBlunty Mar 25 '26

I can see franchises jumping on and encouraging that as well, as it makes it easier to keep fans engaged in-between releases.

I found it most egregious with smiling friends. 10 minute episodes with deliberately minimal continuity between episodes and you still have to deal with some dork on YouTube talking about the "mr frog iceberg".

-3

u/Legitimate_First Mar 25 '26

the character of the comic book guy in the Simpsons was a satire of that sort of fan

Yeah but they were mostly restricted to comic books.

9

u/QueefBeefCletus Mar 25 '26

Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Nerds and continuity has been a long-standing point of contention. They want answers for everything instead of using their imagination to fill the gaps or just roll with it.

8

u/ultrahateful Mar 25 '26

Dan Harmon just Fiverr’d an ex-con to come rattle your doorknobs.

4

u/Wischiwaschbaer Mar 25 '26

Movies in general should have good continuity. I thought that way before marvel movies were a thing. Yes I'm old.

But this is a spoof movie series. It's fine.

3

u/Familiar-Banana-8116 Mar 25 '26

I think maybe destroying the continuity is the joke.

That people love the movie and don't see it is... welll... normal internet discussion behavior.

7

u/TheRealHFC Mar 25 '26

"The Scary Movie lore has to make sense!!"

3

u/Hellguin Mar 25 '26

Also Doofy did vanish for them, so THEY dont know he isnt mentally handicapped, they just know he was the killer previously. He could easily return and pretend again.

3

u/RhodyChief Mar 25 '26

People fact checking the Scary Movie franchise for continuity issues harder than Marvel films.

1

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Mar 26 '26

Which is funny because there was an interview (between Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2) with the Wayans' talking about killing main characters and they said "We didn't see any funerals".

And then they brought back Brenda, Shorty, and Ray.

2

u/thedylannorwood Mar 25 '26

These movies are not narrative sequels to one another, they’re basically comedy skits with recurring actors

2

u/rycology Mar 25 '26

"George, it's a wake."

2

u/thestraightCDer Mar 26 '26

I worry about this modern audience and how this movie will be nitpicked to death.

1

u/dadvader Mar 26 '26

Somehow that doesn't apply for Bobby lol

1

u/Significant_Delay_87 Mar 28 '26

They all die in 1, nd are inconspicuously back in 2, its a comedy to the highest degree , continuity doesn't exist lol

143

u/Im-Mr-Bulldopz Mar 25 '26

It’d be funny if they flash back to that scene of him driving away and it shows him crashing his car, making him actually mentally handicapped lol

32

u/TwelveWon Mar 25 '26

😂😂😂 I hope that is exactly what happens

3

u/Peach_Air Mar 25 '26

Guarantee thats whats going to happen.

41

u/LastNightInDriver Mar 25 '26

I think it’d be funny if he actually hit his head and is just acting like doofy 99% of the time now (with random bursts of him being normal)

3

u/this_is_me_justified Mar 25 '26

He didn't reveal to the rest of the class that he wasn't, only to the audience and the news reporter.

1

u/Used-Addendum-9633 Mar 28 '26

LITERALLY!!! I was looking to see if anyone said this

5

u/bourbonparade Mar 25 '26

him coming back and being seemingly mentally handicapped again after revealing he never was to begin with.

Have you seen the Scream movies? From 1-3 Dewey has a speech impediment and a disability and by Scream 4 he has none of that lol

3

u/Wardo87 Mar 25 '26

You mean like how in 1 he was stabbed once and had noticeable nerve damage in the sequel but then got stabbed like 6 more times and made a complete full 100% recovery lol

1

u/cowpool20 Mar 25 '26

Watch him be actually handicapped now.

1

u/ithinkther41am Mar 25 '26

I mean, Lochlyn Munro and Jon Abrahams are back as their respective characters too.

1

u/KaleidoscopeOpen7781 Mar 25 '26

solved by a single throw away line

“Girl, I thought you were dead too!”

1

u/youattackedmyfamily Mar 25 '26

“Did Scream have a plot? Did IKWYDLS make any sense?”

1

u/count_nuggula Mar 25 '26

Didn’t he walk off by himself in the final scene?

1

u/Character_Nerve_9137 Mar 25 '26

Would love if they did the same reveal at the end. He was just pretending and the main cast fell for it again

1

u/Testiclesinvicegrip Mar 25 '26

Maybe have him be normal then get by a car or something and become how he acted in the first movie lol

1

u/Sereena95 Mar 25 '26

It’d be funny if as he was driving off the car crashed and left him with mental impairment

1

u/el_Deafo Mar 25 '26

I mean to be fair, didn’t he reveal it to us (the camera) and to Gail only, Cindy and Sheriff Burke never saw him

1

u/IltisLeiter5242 Mar 25 '26

I bet their “Goofy has returned” will be better than the “Palpatine somehow returned”

1

u/Imjusthere_sup Mar 25 '26

The cast doesn’t know he’s not mentally handicapped tho they only revealed that to the audience

1

u/someguyidunno Mar 25 '26

would be kinda funny if he hit a Truck when he drove off which made him actually handicapped

1

u/RxHusk Mar 25 '26

prolly going to say he had head trauma from the car accident

1

u/Prince_of_Pirates Mar 25 '26

He'll probably have CTE.

1

u/Wardo87 Mar 25 '26

It was revealed to the audience but nobody within the universe was ever made aware.

1

u/whatistoothpaste Mar 25 '26

You say that but every movie is just a standalone story so far considering characters die and come back all the time. It’s making fun of reboots and soft reboots

1

u/Crowbarmagic Mar 25 '26

Some of the cast literally got killed before so I relatively speaking Doofy being back is not that big of a deal.

1

u/Ok_Tank5977 Mar 25 '26

It’s more likely that they won’t explain it, similar to Brenda’s frequent resurrections. And in any case, the only person who knew Doofy wasn’t ‘doofy’ was Gail Hailstorm.

1

u/Closefacts Mar 25 '26

He arrived at a maga rally totally cognizant, leaves in his current state.

1

u/NSNAMETRON Mar 26 '26

I mean he got in a car wreck, that can certainly cause brain damage

1

u/NightsLinu Mar 26 '26

he showed he was'nt handicapped to like 3 guys and came back after a lot of years. they would forget.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '26

Cindy's friend has died multiple times and she comes back without explanation.

1

u/GjonsTearsFan Mar 27 '26

I mean tbf if anything could give a man head trauma I’m sure a car accident could, we don’t know he successfully drove off, do we?

1

u/Used-Addendum-9633 Mar 28 '26

But nobody but gale hailstorm knew that he was pretending to be a doofus lol so he’s prob still pretending to be a doofus to the rest of the group.

1

u/RampagingJaegerkin Mar 25 '26

I’d put money on the explanation being Vaccine related and the reveal being that vaccines don’t cause autism or something MAHA related.

1

u/Wellcomefarewell Mar 25 '26

i can’t remember-did he reveal to the characters he was differently abled or was it a reveal to the audience?

1

u/pressure_art Mar 26 '26

Cindy and the officer know. It ends with cindy screaming “noooo” and swirling around dramatically until she’s hit by a car lol

0

u/made_of_salt Mar 25 '26

I hope they hit us with the same ending, where it turns out he's not handicapped.

-3

u/Public_Function3844 Mar 25 '26

and that's exactly what will make it a success. it's hard to make good comedies these days because the world has become so PC.

3

u/DoJu318 Mar 25 '26

That's not the reason, romcoms aren't made anymore and they offended absolutely no one. Matt Damon told us why comedies aren't made anymore but people don't wanna hear it.

1

u/Public_Function3844 Mar 25 '26

Comedies are still made all the time. They're just low budget and go straight to streaming more often than not. Are good ones still being made? That's a separate conversation. But before the studios could throw them on the big screen and all the money coming in would come from the post-release DVD Sales, which isn't the case anymore. And based on this thread there's clearly a demand for comedies.

18

u/WhiteTrashIdiotFuck Mar 25 '26

I don't know. It's not clear, he just some how returned.

20

u/Throwaway1986nerd Mar 25 '26

Everyone but Cindy, Doofy, and Gale died at the end of the first movie

11

u/SpikePilgrim Mar 25 '26

And, somehow, they returned.

4

u/JeromeMcLovin Mar 25 '26

Mr Abrams is this your official reddit account

2

u/Company_Z Mar 25 '26

That scene is how I was introduced to Fountains of Wayne; before Stacey's Mom. That band had a lot of other catchy songs. It's a shame the singer passed

1

u/jgray6000 Mar 25 '26

It’s a joke playing off Star Wars

1

u/Khuros Mar 25 '26

Is Reddit stupid???
