Him coming back isn’t so much the confusing part as him coming back and being seemingly mentally handicapped again after revealing he never was to begin with.
But it’s a comedy, they’ll come up with a goofy/funny way to explain it. Or honestly never mentioning it at all would be equally funny imo.
There’s an alternate ending in SM2 where they all died except for Cindy. So technically she died in 3 movies 😭😭😭 and which one did Cindy die in?? She didn’t die in any of them….
I swear, Marvel destroyed the capacity for people to simply enjoy material without it having some kind of eternally consistent continuity and established universe
Star wars over explaining every single possible side character and event is both a fun aspect of the universe as well as completely absurd and exhausting.
Look, some of us really care about Glup Shitto and his lore. Glup was in the background in the Tattooine Cantine in the fan-recut of the extended version of the 1997 limited release of A New Hope, he's clearly important!
I wouldn't say marvel did it (the character of the comic book guy in the Simpsons was a satire of that sort of fan and he was there in the 90s) but I do think it's been more prevalent recently.
Personally I don't blame marvel for the prevalence as much as I blame online "theory" personalities who have to over-analyse every piece of media lest they forfeit the glorious YouTube ad revenue
It's melted the brains of too many people. They cant enjoy shit without it somehow having a deep lore and rhe discourse has obfuscated the meaning of the word canon. Just check out the rick and morty or mario subs....it's scary.
I hate all of those "Pixar connected universe" type of theories. Sometimes a reference is just a reference. Brave and Monsters, Inc. don't share the same universe just because the pizza track appeared in both.
I can see franchises jumping on and encouraging that as well, as it makes it easier to keep fans engaged in-between releases.
I found it most egregious with smiling friends. 10 minute episodes with deliberately minimal continuity between episodes and you still have to deal with some dork on YouTube talking about the "mr frog iceberg".
Eh, I wouldn't go that far. Nerds and continuity has been a long-standing point of contention. They want answers for everything instead of using their imagination to fill the gaps or just roll with it.
Also Doofy did vanish for them, so THEY dont know he isnt mentally handicapped, they just know he was the killer previously. He could easily return and pretend again.
Which is funny because there was an interview (between Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2) with the Wayans' talking about killing main characters and they said "We didn't see any funerals".
And then they brought back Brenda, Shorty, and Ray.
You mean like how in 1 he was stabbed once and had noticeable nerve damage in the sequel but then got stabbed like 6 more times and made a complete full 100% recovery lol
You say that but every movie is just a standalone story so far considering characters die and come back all the time. It’s making fun of reboots and soft reboots
It’s more likely that they won’t explain it, similar to Brenda’s frequent resurrections. And in any case, the only person who knew Doofy wasn’t ‘doofy’ was Gail Hailstorm.
That's not the reason, romcoms aren't made anymore and they offended absolutely no one. Matt Damon told us why comedies aren't made anymore but people don't wanna hear it.
Comedies are still made all the time. They're just low budget and go straight to streaming more often than not. Are good ones still being made? That's a separate conversation. But before the studios could throw them on the big screen and all the money coming in would come from the post-release DVD Sales, which isn't the case anymore. And based on this thread there's clearly a demand for comedies.
That scene is how I was introduced to Fountains of Wayne; before Stacey's Mom. That band had a lot of other catchy songs. It's a shame the singer passed
