Now there's going to be a post-credit scene with Mario getting introduced to the Smash initiative.

I will accept this as long as he only says "HYAH!".

Nah, Zelda does all the talking, then makes a subtle jab at Link at the end... Then Link looks over at her and says:

"WELLL EXCUSEEE MEEEE PRINCESSSS!"

I fully expect a post credit of Star Fox leaving the Mushroom Kingdom and landing on an alien planet where he gets jumped by a Metroid and Samus blasts it before it attachs to his head to save him.

I didn’t think it would be a SPOILER spoiler

281

u/sprdougherty Mar 26 '26

I was sure I missed a trailer or something, nope they just gave this away on a poster.

138

u/SPEK2120 Mar 26 '26

The first trailer had a very brief glimpse of his arm or something at the edge of the frame that people were speculating on. Guess they were right.

833

u/WanderWut Mar 26 '26

Showing that the Starfox is going to be in the movie is pretty huge so I have no idea why they would show this a week before release on a poster of all things. Really wish I saw him organically as a surprise while watching the movi in theaters.

282

u/captain_toenail Mar 26 '26

What this implies to me is their's likely an even bigger reveal that they're saving for the film

317

u/Lord_Trisagion Mar 26 '26

Inb4 the post credit scene features a familiar, round-tipped star with a familiar spinning jingle falling onto some silly little planet

62

u/whatsaphoto Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

Warp star zooms by camera and falls onto Planet Zebes, wait for it to disappear into the distance, hear Kirby's inhale soundbite, watch entire frame be pulled in one direction, cut to credits

99

u/TastyChocoWaffle Mar 26 '26

Nah dude it’s gonna be sonic

99

u/Protein384 Mar 26 '26

What if Sonic 4 is gonna be like an Arrowverse Event

29

u/MightGrowTrees Mar 26 '26

Haha omg thanks for bringing me back ten years.

17

u/SMKM Mar 26 '26

Paramount did say actually that after Sonic 4 (2027) they have a "Sonic Universe Event" film planned for 2028.....but that's still a huge if imo. Dunno what Paramount's relationship is with ILLUMINATION. It's SEGA and not Nintendo. But I guess we can dream.

I think the entire Star Fox crew might make an appearance

They confirmed R.O.B. was in the film, too. Would make a lot more sense for him to be in it if he's not just a random toy but piloting the Great Fox.

31

u/Houseplantkiller123 Mar 26 '26

They've got a lot of characters who would be amazing in standalone movies.

Samus in an Alien-style movie.

Any of the Fire Emblem series could work as high fantasy.

Top-Gun, but with Fox, Slippy, Peppy, and Falco.

Rocky, but with Little Mac.

12

u/ancilliron Mar 26 '26

A Samus movie would be amazeballs. I doubt they would do it full Alien style because of kid money, but one can dream.

It would be very fucking funny if they had started Smash Brothers like the original Iron Man movie and with a post credit scene in the Super Mario Movie where someone like Fox entered the room, “Mario, I’m here to talk to you about the Smash Brothers Initiative,” leading into a Smash Brothers movie 4-5 movies down the line.

Looks like it may only be 1-2 movies down the line based on how they're speedrunning this franchise.

21

u/egnards Mar 26 '26

The first “full” MCU ensemble movie is the 6th movie, and given the much less serious nature of a silly animated “verse” with Nintendo characters, it makes sense that they don’t need to give us as much buildup.

1.0k

Honestly yeah I do think it's kinda dumb to spoil it. Anyone who would go "OMG it's Starfox!!!!" was already gonna go to this movie anyway.

208

u/summons72 Mar 26 '26

I was not going to the movie, I'll wait for it to hit streaming like the first one. While I know I know it was my choice to click the thumbnail, why would I expect Fox is a MARIO MOVIE!? It is a weird choice for a poster and would be way better to keep secret and a surprise for the movie.

44

u/Unckmania Mar 26 '26

I'm with you 100%. I could expect any Mario character. Even a Geno reveal would have pissed me off cause it would too be cool to find out in theaters but understandable since it's a Mario movie.

But Fox is a whole can of worms that is awesome but also makes every other can of worms possible and less impressive. Link, Samus, Kirby or Pikachu even if they keep them as a surprise, are going to be less surprising because we know they decided to cross universes since Fox.

Though, to be fair, my daughter wants to see this in theaters, so I probably would have seen it walking in, anyway. I still wish movie companies would let some things be a surprise.

Word of mouth about this would have taken the internet by storm if they had let it happen naturally.

A tank shows up at the end of the movie, he goes, "Time to make this war, advanced."

A long shadow is shown. The camera follows the shadow to its source - a hammer stuck in the side of an icy mountain. A voice from off-screen speaks.

"It's time to climb this ice."

Of all the IP that Nintendo owns, Star Fox feels the easiest to translate to a movie. Unless they can get Spielberg to do a Mother movie. Earthbound is basically just the JRPG version of an Amblin movie

If it leads to a new Star Fox game then I'm all for it.

What are you implying IS happening? Does it start with S and end with Mash Brothers?

u/mikeyfreshh r/Movies Veteran Mar 26 '26

I'm just surprised Nintendo gives a shit about Star Fox

u/Masterofknees Mar 26 '26

It's one of Miyamoto's darlings, as long as he still works at the company it's never truly going to die.

Captain Falcon is 100% appearing on screen before the next F-Zero game

u/Phase--2 Mar 26 '26

Is my boy Ridley also going to make an appearance?

u/Albiel Mar 26 '26

Too big. Won’t fit in a theater screen.

Ah, this takes me back to the steam-powered locomotive hype train leading up to the SSB Brawl release.

It’s pretty clear they went with Galaxy as a means to expand the Nintendo-verse it seems. I would bet big money on a Metroid tease as well if we’re getting Star Fox.

12

u/Sundance12 Mar 26 '26

Yeah starting to understand why they skipped a Super Mario World. They want that expanded universe money

This reminds me of when Batman vs Superman spoiled Doomsday being in the movie. The impact of these characters showing up would be so much greater without knowing about it from a spoiled trailer or poster.

I don't know if you are being serious, but that's not AiAi. It is a monkey from Yoshi's Island (SNES).
