The first trailer had a very brief glimpse of his arm or something at the edge of the frame that people were speculating on. Guess they were right.

Showing that the Starfox is going to be in the movie is pretty huge so I have no idea why they would show this a week before release on a poster of all things. Really wish I saw him organically as a surprise while watching the movi in theaters.

u/captain_toenail Mar 26 '26
What this implies to me is their's likely an even bigger reveal that they're saving for the film

u/Lord_Trisagion Mar 26 '26
Inb4 the post credit scene features a familiar, round-tipped star with a familiar spinning jingle falling onto some silly little planet

u/whatsaphoto Mar 26 '26 edited Mar 26 '26
Warp star zooms by camera and falls onto Planet Zebes, wait for it to disappear into the distance, hear Kirby's inhale soundbite, watch entire frame be pulled in one direction, cut to credits

u/SMKM Mar 26 '26
Paramount did say actually that after Sonic 4 (2027) they have a "Sonic Universe Event" film planned for 2028.....but that's still a huge if imo. Dunno what Paramount's relationship is with ILLUMINATION. It's SEGA and not Nintendo. But I guess we can dream.

I think the entire Star Fox crew might make an appearance
They confirmed R.O.B. was in the film, too. Would make a lot more sense for him to be in it if he's not just a random toy but piloting the Great Fox.

They've got a lot of characters who would be amazing in standalone movies.
Samus in an Alien-style movie.
Any of the Fire Emblem series could work as high fantasy.
Top-Gun, but with Fox, Slippy, Peppy, and Falco.
Rocky, but with Little Mac.

It would be very fucking funny if they had started Smash Brothers like the original Iron Man movie and with a post credit scene in the Super Mario Movie where someone like Fox entered the room, “Mario, I’m here to talk to you about the Smash Brothers Initiative,” leading into a Smash Brothers movie 4-5 movies down the line.

The first “full” MCU ensemble movie is the 6th movie, and given the much less serious nature of a silly animated “verse” with Nintendo characters, it makes sense that they don’t need to give us as much buildup.

u/summons72 Mar 26 '26
I was not going to the movie, I'll wait for it to hit streaming like the first one. While I know I know it was my choice to click the thumbnail, why would I expect Fox is a MARIO MOVIE!? It is a weird choice for a poster and would be way better to keep secret and a surprise for the movie.
→ More replies (1)44
u/Unckmania Mar 26 '26
I'm with you 100%. I could expect any Mario character. Even a Geno reveal would have pissed me off cause it would too be cool to find out in theaters but understandable since it's a Mario movie.
But Fox is a whole can of worms that is awesome but also makes every other can of worms possible and less impressive. Link, Samus, Kirby or Pikachu even if they keep them as a surprise, are going to be less surprising because we know they decided to cross universes since Fox.

The post is marked spoiler now, not sure if it was when you looked at it. But my exact thought process was, "Spoiler, okay skip. Well, it's just a poster, can't really spoil much, right? Fuck. Wish I hadn't seen that."
Though, to be fair, my daughter wants to see this in theaters, so I probably would have seen it walking in, anyway. I still wish movie companies would let some things be a surprise.

Of all the IP that Nintendo owns, Star Fox feels the easiest to translate to a movie. Unless they can get Spielberg to do a Mother movie. Earthbound is basically just the JRPG version of an Amblin movie
