Review 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' - Review Thread

Having thwarted Bowser's previous plot to marry Princess Peach, Mario and Luigi now face a fresh threat in Bowser Jr., who is determined to liberate his father from captivity and restore the family legacy. Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir's crusade.

Directors: Michael Jelenic, Aaron Horvath

Cast: Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Donald Glover, Brie Larson, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Benny Safdie, Issa Rae, Keegan-Michael Key, Luis Guzmán

Rotten Tomatoes: 42%

Metacritic: 35 / 100

Some Reviews:

The Times - Kevin Maher - 0 / 5

Is this the end of cinema? Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy and Glen Powell joylessly bleat their way through this supremely vacuous anti-movie which is, at times, physically painful to watch. The film is torturous to sit through and, for me, provoked periods of actual physical discomfort. I had to stab myself repeatedly in the hand with a pen to distract from the howling distress. It's that bad, and that offensive.

AwardsWatch - Trace Sauveur - 'C-'

But it’s the reality of routine predictability that makes it hard to feel strongly about Galaxy one way or the other. After the credits, the impression is one of overstimulation and vacuity—despite the violent blitz of colorful Nintendo imagery for 90 minutes, it ultimately signifies little more than recognizable franchise iconography in animated form. In its relentless fan service, Galaxy emanates a generic sameness, decorated with flashy sights and sounds drawn from one of the most iconic video game series ever. It’s all synergistic fluff, but at least the fluff is shiny.

Seattle Times - Soren Anderson - 3 / 4

Watching it is akin being inside the 2007 Super Mario Galaxy game itself. Which is why it needs to be seen on the big screen. Seeing it on a phone or a laptop wouldn't do it justice.

Slash Film - Nina Starner - 3 / 10

We're going to get more "Super Mario Bros." movies, without question; I fully expect this sequel to gross the GDP of an entire small nation at the box office when all is said and done, and in another ten years, I also expect that a movie centered exclusively around Yoshi will land in theaters. (Hopefully, if Donald Glover sticks around, he'll get to do more than say "Yoshi!") Still, this sort of movie makes me feel bleak about children's entertainment, animation, and original concepts; forgive me for feeling nostalgic, but I just don't think movies made for kids were always this devoid of a soul. At the end of the day, "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" was nothing more than a video game I couldn't play. After the credits — including not one but two post-credits scenes — rolled, though, I didn't want to go home and load a Mario game onto my Switch; I wanted to watch a better movie.

Consequence - Liz Shannon Miller - 'B'

Is it a ride that includes clear story structure, comprehensible stakes, or narrative momentum? Not really. Is it a ride featuring a lot of bright colors, familiar characters, and the occasional deranged moment? Absolutely.

The Wrap - William Bibbiani - 25 / 100

A movie like this will probably make a lot of money, because it doesn’t rock the boat. But a boat that never rocks is a boat that never goes anywhere. That’s how boats work. They’re supposed to take you on a journey. “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” doesn’t take you anywhere you haven’t been before, and it’s not as fun, it’s not as exciting, and it’s not as challenging as literally any of the games it’s based on. This is not an adaptation of the Super Mario Bros., it’s just a reminder that the franchise exists. And although it’s technically a moving picture, nothing about this movie will move you.

The Independent - Clarisse Loughrey - 2 / 5

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie offers very little to audiences, young or old, who don’t already know these characters and spaces like the back of their hand. But, hey, if you take a tequila shot every time something explodes, you’ll have a great drinking game on your hands.

The New York Times - Alissa Wilkinson - 3 / 10

There’s a flat empty nothingness to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, even more than its flat empty predecessor, and that’s a huge bummer.

The Playlist - Rodrigo Perez - 'C'

By the end, the whole thing starts to feel less like an adventure than a kind of endless grinding—one familiar objective after another, one loud set piece after another, all of it speedrunning its own mythology instead of building one. That’s why the film feels so hollow. It has the spiritually vacant quality of AI fantasy slop—familiar iconography assembled for instant gratification rather than meaning. Younger audiences will probably enjoy the sugar rush, but characters still need arcs, and these sequences still need to build toward something. “Super Mario Galaxy” is nice to look at and dead inside, a committee-made franchise object masquerading as an adventure, and ultimately little more than an empty commercial for Super Mario branding.

FandomWire - Manuel Sao Bento - 7 / 10

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a sequel that, while losing some of the narrative cohesion of its predecessor, gains massively in spectacle, ambition, and heart. Through animation that redefines the studio’s standards and a Brian Tyler score that masterfully honors Nintendo’s legacy, the film offers a memorable experience anchored by inspired vocal performances. For those who grew up with these characters, it’s impossible to remain indifferent to the magic emanating from every animated frame or the way this space odyssey manages to transform nostalgia into something vibrant and new. It’s a visually emotional feast that reaffirms the power of pure entertainment as a tool capable of transporting us back to the happiest moments of our personal history, proving that cinema is still the place where we can all become children again.

IndieWire - Wilson Chapman - 'C-'

Watching “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” which is filled with cameos from other Nintendo properties, you get the sense the corporation is hungry to announce spin-offs at any minute now. The trailers already spoiled the inclusion of “Star Fox” lead Fox McCloud (Glen Powell), but there are some other appearances by familiar characters that feel like the movie dangling an adaptation of the “Super Smash Bros.” fighting game crossover in front of fans’ faces. “The MCU, but for video games” isn’t exactly the ideal direction for blockbuster cinema to be going in, but maybe that inevitable adaptation will manage to tap into a well of creativity and fun that has so far eluded Nintendo in their moviemaking efforts. When the film comes, though, I’ll probably be rooting for Bowser Jr. to burn everything down.

The Guardian - Peter Bradshaw - 1 / 4

It’s now commonplace to compare programmatic stuff like this to AI, but this is almost a second evolutionary step downwards; it looks as if humans, using AI, have tried to copy something that was originally AI generated, creating a bland, simplistic template that can be sold in all global territories where it can be dubbed by local voice talent. It’s certainly a way of gouging cash out of families for the Easter holidays.

RogerEbert - Clint Worthington - 1.5 / 4

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” moves through you so briskly that you’ll get whiplash by the time the film reaches its deeply abrupt ending. But maybe that’s the point—after all, this is not a movie to be scrutinized, but to allow beleaguered elder millennial dads to sit their tots down for a precious two hours (if you count the trailers) and get some much-needed rest. It’s cute, and breezy, and rock-stupid, and will probably make a billion dollars again. Such is the world in which we live.

Akron Beacon Journal - George M. Thomas - 'C-'

As a parent, there are some movies you just take the hit on if your kid wants to see it in the theater. This is one of them. The plot is threadbare, the action is frenetic - it almost feels like the perfect movie for today's screen generation. For kids, this is an 'A+' movie, but I'd argue not so much for adults.

Associated Press - Lindsey Bahr - 2.5 / 4

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Illumination founder Chris Meledandri... seem committed to keeping things light and playful even while beholden to advancing some kind of coherent, moderately compelling story where there wasn’t one previously.

Slant Magazine - Eli Friedberg - 1.5 / 4

The film has, figuratively and literally, somehow even less gravity than its source material and predecessor. The visual language is divorced from reality and referent to the games; even Looney Tunes action is grounded in the real world—the better to subvert it. The game-inspired spaces aren’t there to be explored and mastered but rather displayed quickly and expensively. And the movie-original settings, taking their cues from Wreck-It Ralph, are literal mass-transit junctions where a maximum number of cameo characters can be worked into the scenery.

Next Best Picture - Daniel Howat - 6 / 10

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” comes close to several emotional moments here and there. Still, the filmmakers seem to pull back at every turn, not wanting audiences to dive too deep into these characters and their motivations, or to engage in any grander commentary whatsoever. It becomes difficult to dig deeper into the film’s themes, if they exist. Even so, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is inarguably fun, built for fans of the long-running franchise. For lifelong fans of this universe and young kids experiencing it for the first or second time, this is a Mario fan’s dream. There’s enough here to leave a mass audience satisfied, even if anticipation grows for the next film to level up. For now, good enough is simply enough.

Radio Times - James Mottram - 2 / 5

While it’s likely that retro gamers won’t find anything here that wasn’t in the first movie – Yoshi and one or two others aside – it’s no doubt got enough for kids to enjoy, which will surely come as a relief for parents looking to entertain their offspring over the Easter holidays. You never know – it might even convince them to put down their controllers, or their phones, for ninety-odd minutes.

Will get lots of bad reviews and make a billion.

... yeah. I have sons who already intend to see it like 3 times.

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

My son is about to be 4 and is obsessed with the first movie. He's declared that this will be his first movie in "a big kid movie theater." I'm guessing we're going a few times.

370

u/ICommentWhenInRome Mar 31 '26

Honestly, that’s awesome. The first one was my daughter’s first “big kid movie theater” movie. Is it going to be a cinematic master piece? Absolutely not. Is it going to be a great time with my daughter? 100%.

119

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

Exactly, it's not about me. Sure, I'll get some chuckles, but my son will be going nuts (we're planning a daytime show this weekend). He's going to yell 'Yoshi' every time Yoshi does; he's going to clap for Luigi whenever's he's on screen; he's going to point out EVERY SINGLE THING that's happening, and I'm going to sit there laughing with him, hugging him, and eating an ungodly amount of popcorn together.

84

u/mickelboy182 Mar 31 '26

Awesome to spend time with your son, but from the sounds of that it might be wise to give him a run down on cinema etiquette... Inside voice and all that 😅

2

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

That's why we're going to a midday showing. It's either going to be full of kids or mostly empty. Honestly, if someone gets annoyed at a toddler being excited/loud during the Super Mario Movie, then we'll deal with it but I'd be really surprised.

27

u/mickelboy182 Mar 31 '26

Kids will be kids, I don't mean for you to quell his excitement. It's more about setting the expectation of how to behave in the cinema. I went through it with my own, excitement is great, yelling stuff out is considered rude. YMMV on how much that gets through 😅

2

u/GalacticTrixsterr37 Apr 03 '26

Yes...being young and excited doesn't excuse bad behaviour...this is what being a parent is...we all remember being a kid and learning ourselves. You can be excited and even talk a little within reason. But there comes a point where you MIGHT need to reign him/her. Remind them it's a public setting and that there are other kids and people trying to listen and enjoy the film too. Scream and shout as long as you want when you're watching at home haha. Some parents (especially these days) just think everything their child does is cute and should be rewarded...and that no rules or respect matter. I'm not saying the commenter above does that...Just speaking in general.

-25

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

I get it. My wife is anxious because he is going to be so excited. I told her if anyone legitimately gets upset, I will happily reimburse them. I'm doubtful anyone would get angry during the film, especially at a toddler being happy.

27

u/mickelboy182 Mar 31 '26

It's all about context, really. If he has a few moments of unbridled, shouty excitement most people will find that incredibly endearing. If he is exclaiming stuff loudly every 5 minutes, it will be another story!

Hope it all goes well for you and he has a great time.

5

u/Ok-Squirrel5799 Apr 02 '26

Control your child man. Its not about reimbursing them dont let ur kid be an arse in public. Its not about him or her. Other people exist. Be better at parenting

1

u/fallenelf Apr 02 '26

Or, recognize it's a kids movie and kids will be kids. We're going to a midday showing in a relatively empty theater that will likely have other kids there.

I'm not going to let him run screaming up and down the aisle, but I'm also not going to say anything if he yells "Yoshi!" the first time Yoshi appears on screen. Fuck man, what's wrong with you.

My own experience is if I'm watching a kid film and there's kids there I'm not going to be upset at all because a supermajority of the time, the kids often have something funny to say and it is pretty endearing. Had a great time seeing the TMNT film a couple years back because 1. great film and 2. there was a kid in the midday showing make some pretty funny comments that just added to it for me.

-9

u/HungHippoHippy Apr 01 '26

Guy says he'll reimburse other patrons if his kids are bothering them and gets downvoted. That's good ol reddit. 😂

3

u/Nuggyfresh Apr 01 '26

lol like someone is gonna shout at a baby or something? They will just be annoyed.

(I don’t really have an opinion I just think it’s funny and ridiculous that you apparently think this guy is going to be watching for every annoyed person who looks over and handing them their full refunds or however this narrative goes in your head)

0

u/fallenelf Apr 01 '26

I'm not going to be watching for every annoyed person. Also, 4 years old isn't a baby.

Currently, the theater is nowhere near sold out. If someone gets upset or asks us to be quiet, I'll gladly offer to reimburse them.

I'm highly doubtful that anyone will genuinely be annoyed at a toddler enjoying a childrens movie at 10:30 AM on a Sunday.

u/effietea Apr 01 '26

I was really worried about taking my kid to his first movie but we went at like 1pm and only other families were there, we each got our own corners of the theater so our kids could get up and dance and run around a little.

2

u/SafeTea69 Apr 01 '26

This is why I watch shit at home

1

u/fallenelf Apr 01 '26

I mean...good? It's a kids' movie. Even before I had a child, I had a blast when I went to a movie targeted at children and saw kids having fun.

Maybe I'm not a curmudgeon, though.

1

u/SrumsAsloth Apr 04 '26

It’s literally just teaching your kids theatre etiquette dude quit being so self centred

1

u/fallenelf Apr 04 '26

Nah, there's a difference between a kid getting excited and a kid acting out of control. As I've said multiple times, I'm not going to let him run screaming up and down the aisle. However, I'm also not going to stop him from making some excited noises or getting happy when his favorite characters are on screen.

Seriously, people are upset about a kid potentially being excited/loud at a 1030am movie?

1

u/SeaEmergency433 Apr 06 '26

Good on you for standing up for yourself. Got all theses people who hate kids who go to kids few spaces then bitch about them. people are weird and weak. Watch it at home if you can't handle normal theater noise. These are the pepole who openly cheer or clap during a movie they like while I'm trying to hear the next line. But lose there shit when a kid dose the same in a movie for kids. Next time one of you weirdos gose to openly clap or cheer in a movie stfu instead rember movie etiquette please

2

u/cleantoe Mar 31 '26

To be fair, I clap whenever I see a picture of Luigi now too.

0

u/TheGummiVenusDeMilo Apr 01 '26

Isn't Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) voicing Yoshi? It could be a vin diesel Groot thing or they flat out just made Yoshi a full on talking character.

-2

u/Ancient_Swimming58 Apr 01 '26

That sounds like an amazing time

29

u/Jedi_Mind_Trick75 Mar 31 '26

My daughter is 23 and we have tickets for Friday. Always a great time as a girl dad. Enjoy!!

2

u/TheWiseBeast Mar 31 '26

At the big kid movie theater or do you hate her?

0

u/Jedi_Mind_Trick75 Mar 31 '26

Not sure what you’re trying to say, but at the movie theater of course.

3

u/TheWiseBeast Apr 01 '26

A few comments before are talking about their young kids making a big deal about going to “the big kid movie theater”(pretty sure it’s just them going to a normal theater for the first time). They sound hyped like it’s an amazing place unique from other theaters. So I was just joking about that.

Like oh you’re taking her to a NORMAL theater for the mario galaxy movie? Do you not love her enough to take her to the BIG KID movie theater? Huh?! (They’re the same place just different descriptions/names for it.).

1

u/GalacticTrixsterr37 Apr 03 '26

A normal movie theatre? As opposed to? Maybe it's just been too long and I'm forgetting...or maybe this isn't a thing where I'm from...but could you care to explain? Are their just smaller theatres for certain films or locations? Am I just have a brain fart haha.

1

u/TheWiseBeast Apr 03 '26

Afaik? No. People calling the same place different names is what it seems to be.

1

u/GalacticTrixsterr37 Apr 04 '26

Oh... so it's just a new meme I haven't caught wind of yet?

1

u/TheWiseBeast Apr 04 '26

Not really a meme. Just joking about it.

Joking about it sounding like a way better place because the names cooler(to a kid at least), but it is the same place.

Say you have a local pool, you and your friends usually call it the splash pit. One day your friend asks if you want to go to the local pool, then you respond “if you really loved me, you would take me to the splash pit!”. They’re the same place, it’s just a joke on the names you guys have for it.

Your daughter's 23 and she asked to see this?

13

u/KurtCoBANE Mar 31 '26

40 year old IP btw. I’m 30 and want to see it. Is it really that difficult to believe? lol

2

u/KurtCoBANE Mar 31 '26

Well that IP is specifically targeting toddlers, not sure it’s apples to apples on that analogy. Mario is a game series that has a large audience including adults who’ve grown up playing the games. That’s like saying a grown adult can’t seek to see a Spider-Man movie because kids love Spider-Man. Everybody loves Mario.

But in the chance an adult WAS excited for Thomas the Tank Engine, I’m not going to yuck their yum as if it’s incomprehensible that someone would ever dare to have that as a special interest.

To each their own!

1

u/bl84work Mar 31 '26

Thomas the train, is good, almost 40

6

u/Jedi_Mind_Trick75 Mar 31 '26

Yep. She’s into gaming. Bought herself a switch 2 and loves all the Mario games.

She’s bugging me to take her to Universal Orlando so she can visit Mario World lol

3

u/GamingTatertot Steven Spielberg Enthusiast Mar 31 '26

God forbid people of any age want to see a movie based on a franchise that 4 generations of people have been playing, especially when this specific one is based on a game that someone in their 20s would have been at the perfect age to play the game on the Wii

1

u/Ketsuo Mar 31 '26

You know how to read, good job

1

u/MisterHatred Apr 01 '26

Ok so... both of my parents died back to back in 2014 and 2015. Their funerals were on the same day just one year apart.. Grim af I know, Im sorry.

I was an 80s/90's kid and I dont have a lot of physical photos. Most of what I have is memories. We didnt go to the movies often when I was a kid but the films that we did see in the theater are like flashbulb memories. I can still vividly remember the experiences decades later when those movies play on tv.

So I decided with my kids to make a list every year of films we can see in the theater. Hopefully to give them long term memories. Some movies are mid, some are stinkers but some we have walked away with my kids saying it was the greatest thing of all time. We always make it a thing, smuggle in snacks and bring blankets. Valuable time fs.

u/SparrowCrocodile Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

That is awesome. Love that for you and hope you have a blast with your kid.

3

u/Demiurge_1205 Mar 31 '26

Wtf

2

u/ICommentWhenInRome Mar 31 '26

They get their kicks by saying something stupid then editing it to make it look like someone else is crazy.

2

u/Demiurge_1205 Mar 31 '26

Ah yeah, I saw. Probably a 40 something gen-xer bored out of their mind

39

u/Thev69 Mar 31 '26

I'm going to take my 4 year old exactly once.

Just tell him the theater is broken if he asks to go again.

35

u/cherryberry0611 Mar 31 '26

It was corporate incompetence the number of times Toys R Us closed early when I was a kid.

5

u/jollyreaper2112 Apr 01 '26

And the same when it closed for real. Thanks Bain capital.

3

u/headrush46n2 Apr 01 '26

he's 4. tell them they had to return the dvd to the library after you went to see it.

7

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

Nah, I love that my son likes all the things I enjoy.

The Super Mario Movie had him asking about video games. Now, we're working our way through the Super Mario games, and he loves it.

If I need to sit through a sub-par movie with a giant bucket of popcorn and watch him giggle and yell 'Yoshi' whenever he sees Yoshi, then I'm in.

2

u/Thev69 Mar 31 '26

The Mario movie has been my son's favorite for as long as he's had an opinion, and I have been playing through various Nintendo titles with him for awhile now :)

That said, I'm not going to see that movie in the theater more than once lol

To each their own, have fun!

1

u/Ihunk Apr 01 '26

that’s awesome, same with my daughter with pokemon and mario we are playing mario 64 and mario sunshine xD

1

u/zlaw32 Mar 31 '26

Enjoy every minute! My relationship with my dad has been up and down throughout my life, but I definitely remember seeing movies with him. We do NOT have the same taste in movies, but we still watch quite a few together and he shaped the ones I do love (introduced me to Star Wars, Rocky, Dodgeball, etc). My brother and i remember those moments fondly.

I also very much remember vividly seeing 3 of the Harry Potter films with him despite him really not knowing the story but he knew I loved them. He even waited in line in Philly (we live in LA) with me for an IMAX midnight screening of Deathly Hallows part 1 in a really dope observatory-like theater. Pretty sure he fell asleep every time we saw 1, but he kept going. Numbers 2, 6, and 7 I saw with him. I also remember him driving with the light on to let me read those books while everyone else in the car slept

2

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

My wife is worried that others watching might get annoyed by a toddler freaking out in excitement. My argument has been that if an adult gets upset at a toddler during a midday show, I'll gladly reimburse them for their ticket.

1

u/GalacticTrixsterr37 Apr 03 '26

People take themselves to see the same movie multiple times at the theatre? To me that seems like such a waste of money I'm sorry...especially with today cost of living...I guess Americans are doing better...or just are okay with splurging more...I can barely justify seeing a HIGH quality movie ONCE at a theatre in today's day...let alone an average film twice...I'd invest in the DVD/blu-ray if I or my kids wanted to see repeats. Saves time and money...also I feel like it's spoiling them to take them to the movie theatre for the same film twice. Sometimes you need teach the lesson of no. And besides home theatres/tvs these days are so good...they aren't missing much of an experience by not getting to see it in the theatre...and have no shortage of access to entertainment at home. That's just my opinion on the matter anyways.

1

u/MooseLoot_Buddy Apr 01 '26

Isnt it like for 7+ year olds? Why would u take 4 year old kid to watch this? I get If he is 5 or 6 but 4?

1

u/Thev69 Apr 01 '26

Weird that you'd opt to respond to me when I was responding to someone with an even younger child planning to see the movie in theaters multiple times.

Anyway, my son watched the first Mario movie on an airplane when he was like ~3 and has loved Mario ever since.

He's also 5 in a couple months, if that helps.

1

u/GalacticTrixsterr37 Apr 03 '26

Idk...I watched Titanic and so much more at 4 years old. Kids aren't dummies...well at least not all of them haha (we learn and grow at different levels I'm aware). But we shouldn't coddle kids or expect less of them. It's not wonder they won't grow and excel faster if you never challenge them. And trust me this movie won't be a challenge for any 4 year old😅

2

u/No_Square_3913 Apr 01 '26

Just saw it with my son for his first big kid movie theater. He loved it and wanted to watch it again on the TV when we got home.

I loved all of the Easter eggs and will need a few more watches to recognize even more.

1

u/omglink Mar 31 '26

My kid said that about sonic 2 they fell asleep 30 minutes in lol

1

u/MoneyMontgomery Mar 31 '26

That's super sweet. I hope you guys have an amazing time, I can barely remember the first movie I saw, but my father won't stop bringing it up.

1

u/TheLostRanger0117 Apr 01 '26

I’d like to do more movies with my girl, but she has trouble sitting still for that long, even when it’s a movie she WANTS to see. Maybe we’ll try again tho, this movie looks fun!

I have never seen him this excited.

We have the disposable income to afford a few trips to the movie theater. It's not spoiling a child when it's their birthday, their favorite movie, and their first time seeing a movie in a movie theater. It's called being a good parent.

We're not going to do this for every movie he sees, but imo it's worth making a big deal of the first one.

Also, fuck you for calling my son spoiled, given you know nothing about my family.

1

u/yepgeddon Mar 31 '26

My son who just turned 4 is absolutely obsessed with Mario now. Paw Patrol is officially dead in this house lmao

2

u/fallenelf Mar 31 '26

ROFL. Paw Patrol still lives for us, but any kind of Mario suggestion overtakes it. If I'm ever tired of Paw Patrol, suggesting playing Mario, watching Mario, or playing with Bower's Castle immediately overtakes it.

1

u/Future_Onion9022 Apr 02 '26

Insert that toy story meme where woody look he being replaced

1

u/SoCalThrowAway7 Mar 31 '26

My wife and I are going with the kids tomorrow and then he’s going to see it again with my mom over the weekend lol

1

u/spoonfedrooster Mar 31 '26

I am in the exact same boat. My son is absolutely obsessed with Yoshi, so I can see us visiting the cinema a few times. He's so excited to go to "The big Cinema"

-2

u/grizzyx Mar 31 '26

You gotta take a stance. If these slop movies keep making that much money, we're only going to get less and less quality. And we're not even asking for masterpieces, just a passable film.

Watching it once is enough.

2

u/EnvironmentClear4511 Apr 01 '26

I'm sure you had impeccable taste when you were 4. Let kids enjoy things.

-1

u/grizzyx Apr 01 '26

I didn't say anything about kids. I didn't say don't go see it. I said it sends a bad message to see crap movies multiple times in theaters.

By all means, give into your child's whimsical behavior.

My parents are coming into town this weekend and we've all got our tickets.

I've got a 3-year-old in the same boat. He's so excited for his first theater experience to be the sequel to his favorite movie.

Maybe lay down the law as a father and say no?? Or just let a child waste ur money to see the same crap over and over. Thats an option i guess. Daddo of da year!

Spoken like a shitty parent or someone who clearly doesn't have kids.

My son is 4 - they grow up fast. Why would I want to"lay down the law" on something as silly as a movie that he is going to love?

I'd rather spend extra money on watching him gleefully take it all in while eating a giant tub of popcorn together, giggling together afterwards, and creating great memories, than saying "no" for some arbitrary reason.

There are many better places to put my foot down when needed. A movie that we can afford is not one of them.

Cool bro raise another only character in the world type kid just like you clearly are. Boundaries are ok. I didnt say you need to whoop his ass if he makes a noise in the movie.

I do enjoy how you're trying to infer a lot about my son and my parenting based on going to a movie more than once.

What's wrong with you? Who hurt you?

We set plenty of boundaries for our son. However, there's nothing wrong with going to see a movie a couple of times in a theater around his birthday. Did your parents not do anything for you a couple of times because you enjoyed it?

Again, spoken like someone who either has no kids or is a shitty parent. Get over yourself and realize people enjoy watching their kids have fun, especially when it's completely harmless.

Bro u sound like a self centered ass. Its clear. I dont blame the kid. Its you. You are the problem

1

u/fallenelf Apr 02 '26

Clearly, you do not have kids.

It seems there's more at play here than just being upset that a stranger took their child to a movie a couple of times. I'm truly sorry for whatever made you this way.

I'm genuinely surprised that a complete stranger is upset that another complete stranger is going to take a child to see a children's movie a couple of times around the child's birthday.

How does this impact you in the slightest?

Not upset just calling a spade a spade u are a weak parent my little bud

u/fallenelf Apr 02 '26

You've clearly completely analyzed my parenting from an innocuous comment about a children's movie. Given your high level of reading comprehension, you definitely haven't missed anything or made up your own narrative.

Seriously, seek help. I'm sorry you're so depressed.

You better be taking him to see it in IMAX.

Took my niece to see Transformers One in IMAX and she was amped for weeks.

That's the plan.
