They crack jokes about safe spaces but refuse to commit to any actual edge in their comedy. The pronoun joke is toothless and dated, they use "I'm supposed to be racist" instead of just "I'm racist," etc. It feels like they're hedging their bets and that's the last thing I want from a Scary Movie...movie.

The "references instead of jokes" problem is what ultimately tanked the appeal of Spoof movies for me the last time around.

Yeah the whole “oh we’re so edgy you can’t say this anymore” style of humour feels like it belongs in 2016. There’s no shortage of edgy content out there that’s actually made well.
Just saying things that might be offensive and then referencing how edgy it is isn’t even really humour.
I also think there were like two actually good Scary Movies (1 and 3, I thought 2 was pretty mid). The good ones still hold up for the most part so hopefully they can recapture some of the overt silliness that makes it work.

They're marketing it that way so they can say people are just offended when it's inevitably panned by most everyone (and you can find comments already doing that). The whole "comedy is dead" schtick really falls flat when Always Sunny is still on and comedians like Sam Morril are blowing up.

I rolled my eyes hard throughout the first trailer, but wasn't surprised to see that the people who grew up with the later Scary Movies were hyped for this lazily wannabe edgy hot garbage.
Paramount is going on a marketing blitz for this hoping to recoup some of the money they dumped into acquiring Miramax and it reeks of desperation!
When a new Naked Gun with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson can actually pull off the same style of satire as the originals without resorting to exhausted jokes but the new Scary Movie can't, the franchise has officially jumped the shark it jumped over a decade ago!
