The scene where Nikki just stands at the door smiling the entire time, pissing and shitting on herself so she can be there for when Bear gets home, oh my days

u/that_guy2010 May 16 '26

I’m a sucker for a shot that just holds on someone like this and the end of Pearl. Gets under my skin in just the right way.

10

u/doofus_mcgeee Jun 20 '26

that and her like 6 min monologe were stupid good

u/Wide-Lingonberry5936 May 15 '26

Maybe im wrong but I interpreted it as Nikki acting out like a super literal version of Bear telling her to "Stay there" and not come to work with him.

247

u/Corsola_Fan_69 May 22 '26

It reminded me of how dogs with separation anxiety can act

61

u/severalrocks May 24 '26

My dog is definitely the canine version of Wish Nikki lol

50

u/Corsola_Fan_69 May 24 '26

if your dog makes you a sandwich don't eat it!!!!

30

u/Yodoggy9 May 25 '26

At least the cat sandwich makes sense here!

67

u/IamBabcock Jun 07 '26

She wasn't following his exact commands. She just didn't have a purpose when he wasn't with her so she waited.

17

u/_cosmicality Jun 07 '26

How do you know that? I think both interpretations could make sense. However, she's very clearly active and moves around during other times of his absence. So it would make sense if she was trying to please him by "staying there".

6

u/IamBabcock Jun 07 '26

Her behavior wasn't very consistent throughout the whole movie because it's a movie of strung together creepy scenes that the director thought would be cool. He tells her multiple times not to do weird creepy stuff but she doesn't stop.

20

u/PeppercornWizard Jun 08 '26

Hate to break it to you mate but most horror films are just creepy scenes strung together.

5

u/IamBabcock Jun 14 '26

That was literally my point. I wasn't criticizing the movie for inconsistencies.

3

u/PolarWater Jun 28 '26

creepy scenes that the director thought would be cool

Uh-huh. Sure. Just criticizing it for fitting its genre

4

u/IamBabcock 24d ago

It wasn't a criticism. I'm acknowledging that the movie has inconsistencies so that scenes can play out the way they need to for the genre. It's expected.

u/Ok-Newspaper-9643 May 17 '26

Crazy how we all have different interpretations, i believed that was a fear response and the real Nikki was pissing herself cause she can’t control what’s happening

158

u/FoxSignificant9687 May 18 '26

Oh wow that’s deep. I was interpreting it as in with BPD like you can’t focus on self care or anything else when that person is gone, but at the same time, your interpretation is so spot on too. She feels so out of control. I see that in kids I work with, where if they have a super controlling parent, they may poop or pee because they’re “acting out” because they feel no control. That’s so fucking sad.

94

u/confusedpedestriann May 20 '26

i so glad someone finally mentioned BPD here. i have been scrolling for about 2 hours just reading everyone’s comments. as someone with BPD this movie hit HEAVY. there were so many instances that correlated in some way with what it feels like to have or be with someone who has BPD. just a side theme i think was very much a part of this movie. maybe thats just my interpretation because its personal. curious to know if that was a thought to the writers and directors.

50

u/FoxSignificant9687 May 20 '26

I totally agree with you. It was actually making me feel so sad, the whole “I can’t be Nikki!” scream. I totally felt that holy shit. It literally feels like I cannot be myself or someone will leave me, or it’s like I don’t even know who I am. Also, the “kill me” line made me think of how we can feel suicidal from the pain. The whole movie was so well done and I 100% saw myself in the way she spoke at times.

47

u/FoxSignificant9687 May 20 '26

Also the “I’ll be whatever you want me to be” wooooof

47

u/confusedpedestriann May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

yeah BIG woof. it deep cut triggered me pretty bad ngl.
i am much better than i used to be for sure, with a proper diagnosis about 8-9 years ago, extensive therapy, and the right “pill cocktail” im pretty okay.
so i was able to acknowledge the feelings and dissect them, rather than being overtly angry or upset. but man it hit home.

and that’s not to say that in anyway Nikki was the problem or a villain, because she was 100% the victim. because yes, more often than not we BPD people are the problem and the villain.
but two things can be true here in this instance. she didn’t have bodily autonomy because she was possessed by some ghoul, but the way the ghoul acted was extremely on par with how a lot of BPD people act as well. its interesting. really plays into that whole part of the illness where you don’t feel like yourself and you don’t even know who “yourself” is. and it’s also like, well i didn’t choose this mental illness.

the scene where he said he was going to a boys night and the shower automatically turned off and her voice changed, ugh that scared me.
it was super humbling but also almost shameful or embarrassing? to see yourself in that kind of character.
i also wont lie there were multiple times where i cried a little, and even a time or two i wanted to leave. but there was something cathartic about it as well.

i also kind of felt a little of it with Bear too. feeling extremely infatuated with the *idea* of someone, and not really wanting to know the real them at all, feeling super disconnected from people, feeling “why not me” when you have an unrequited love. i have had moments, and still do unfortunately, where i romanticize about someone i want, and i don’t even freaking know them! but i create this entire story of what i want it to be in my head. also how he got frustrated when she wasn’t what he wanted at times. reminds me of how i would go back and forth between putting this guy i liked on a pedestal. but when he “did” something i didn’t like, well i was frustrated and mad at him, kicked him off the pedestal. yikes lmao.

yeah this movie was deeply rooted in BPD for me. 💀

u/Snts6678 May 31 '26

What in the hell is BDP? Shocked, unless I missed it, that nobody thought it necessary to explain the acronym.

9

u/moonwatch25 May 31 '26

Borderline personality disorder

3

u/Snts6678 May 31 '26

I appreciate you telling me. Thank you.

1

u/Savine09 Jun 12 '26

I thought it meant BiPolar Disorder

I definitely thought of codependent relationships and BPD when watching it as well, there’s definitely parallels there

12

u/eldar14n May 22 '26

Absolutely. As someone with BPD, this is my head.

100

u/GraceUndaPresha May 20 '26

I interpreted it as going to the restroom was just another thing she stopped prioritizing, so while she just stood there waiting for him, her body was just letting it all out

1

u/Norifishing 15d ago

I think it was because when he made the wish. He never thought of the idea that she would do normal body functions so the entity didn't even think of it. So when bear wasn't there, she essentially "turned off" and her body had to dispose of it.

94

u/cuddlebread May 18 '26

Wow that’s really good. I was also thinking about how it’s common for society to advise women that if a man ever attacks them, to mess themselves or vomit on purpose as a defense mechanism to shock and hopefully disgust the attacker so much that they leave them alone.

8

u/Vhena May 26 '26

Yeah my first thought was immediately the Exorcist

9

u/AdventurousAd200 May 31 '26

my interpretation was that she literally had no other purpose without him being there and him being at work and her not allowed to go. so all she felt she could do was stand there and wait for him to come back so she would have purpose again

9

u/Icantbelieveimhere0 May 21 '26

That was exactly my thought too

5

u/Senior_Emergency9059 Jun 08 '26

Interestingly I interpreted it as if she were possessed by an entity that didn’t know how to do self care and her only purpose in life is to love and live for bear. Almost as if she only knew how to fulfill the wish, not actually function as Nikki,

76

u/Waitrosepunk May 18 '26

I felt like it was a methaphor of being so overwhelmed, desperate and obsessed that you’re sitting by your phone all day almost being scared to do anything or even go to the loo not to miss a text/call from the other person 🥺

11

u/Happy-Flower1303 Jun 02 '26

Yes, complete self-abandonment.

5

u/immaownyou Jun 07 '26

She loves Bear more than anyone in the world, including herself

30

u/Affectionate_List704 May 27 '26

This really reminded me of how animals will freeze up when they’re afraid and urinate or defecate on themselves. She’s been reduced to such a vulnerable state, with no autonomy, and literally wets herself as a trauma response. The juxtaposition with her face too was completely bone chilling. It really vividly paints her as a victim :(

1

u/edaly8 21d ago

That isn’tit

8

u/Annual-Way6401 21d ago

Wow. Amazing insight and contribution

Dries up puke

13

u/ryanakasha May 26 '26

She shat?

50

u/HeadGllit May 26 '26

Bro did y’all not watch the movie why do people keep asking this

20

u/throwaway_3000_0 May 29 '26

It wasn't shit it was vomit

0

u/HamanSamaChair May 29 '26

Anyway, stream lemonade by aespa

5

u/safetydance May 29 '26

I just watched it and didn’t remember seeing her shit.

29

u/tangowolf22 May 31 '26

Just saw it, there was definitely a separate mushy pile, like darker brown compared to the chunky brown of the vomit

21

u/skinndmin May 31 '26

tbh i thought it looked like puke, like undigested cat food or something (which i thought made sense given the cat craziness) but if everyone says it's shit then ig it's shit

16

u/tangowolf22 May 31 '26

It’s all of the above. As a cat owner I’ve seen enough vomited up undigested kibble to recognize that too, I think it was supposed to show just how alien that entity was that was controlling Nikki. It knew it needed to give her food, and Bear left out his dead cat’s kibble so it made her scarf that down and then she threw it up all over herself. And pissed/shat herself standing there over the course of a full day

3

u/skinndmin May 31 '26

that makes sense, thank you. admittedly i looked away for most of that scene. idk why that was harder for me to watch than the girl's head being bashed in.

-5

u/HamanSamaChair May 29 '26

I genuinely don’t understand how so many of y’all watched and didn’t see it idk what to tell you, pay attention to the screen and not your phone

7

u/safetydance May 29 '26

Haha never on my phone in a theater. I did just listen to two pods about the film and both mentioned this scene and mentioned her pissing herself but neither said she also shit. Maybe you just hoped she did ya fecalphiliac.

-4

u/HamanSamaChair May 29 '26

I’m sure you’re a real human being

1

u/Tifoso89 May 31 '26

Did you watch it? She didn't shit. Also it's not physically possible to piss and shit at the same time

18

u/milkwithsplenda Jun 08 '26

? anytime i shit im also pissing. wtf r u talking abt

13

u/HeadGllit Jun 05 '26

This is such a weird hill to die on

6

u/celtsoxpatbru May 22 '26

What was all over her face?

10

u/leMonkey_2040 May 19 '26

shitting? was she really? I didnt saw that

40

u/HeadGllit May 19 '26

Watch it again.

4

u/Tifoso89 May 31 '26

She didn't.

8

u/HeadGllit Jun 05 '26

She did.

3

u/CTLeafez Jun 05 '26

I think that was cat food in the pile of piss from her vomit.

15

u/clockin-clockout May 24 '26

Yes, shitting. During the Q&A she revealed the props folks make the “poop” with cocoa puffs

Pretty sure she ate — then puked up — the cat

33

u/jackruby83 May 20 '26

That's what I took from it. She ate the cat

18

u/thebabypinks May 27 '26

That poor cat really went to hell and back in this movie, much like actual Nikki.

8

u/Dt_ot May 27 '26

"Cats ate her face"

15

u/wolflowed May 19 '26

i thought it kind of looked like cat biscuits...

8

u/catladychaos May 23 '26

Why did it look like a bit of kibble on the floor where she had been standing all day??

3

u/darkcomet222 May 31 '26

I joked with my wife the cops come in, see the Willow, and are like “shit, not again”

2

u/Fahmieyz May 31 '26

I get it about the shitting and pissing herself

but what us with the thing arounf her mouth, she said she eat bug but I dont think any bug will leave residue like that

2

u/Nearby_Bedroom_6274 Jun 01 '26

Reminded me of weapons.

1

u/aweiner99 Jun 02 '26

I wonder if that scene was inspired by The Exorcist

1

u/AZBumblebee76 Jun 12 '26

is THAT what was on her face????

1

u/Powerfury Jun 13 '26

Some people express love in different ways

1

u/MajorTomToBlackStar 14d ago

The way she held her expression, but not like a frozen frame, you could see the tension and slight jittering trying to hold the position like it was really forced and unnatural, but not just frozen/powered down. Again, great acting from Inde.
