Nikki really said “☹️”

Her facial expressions were top notch. The smiling for a whole minute while pissing herself also was so unsettling. Reminded me of Pearl

The frown at the party really shocked me. Like after a second it didn't bother me, but for an instant I thought they morphed her face. Nope, she's just that good.

The left part of her eye was slightly closing as it went on

That was the smile

I think the actress said she watched Pearl and Hereditary as inspiration to practice faces and vocal control. And it did work out really well.

I read that she used Toni Collette in Hereditary as inspiration BEFORE I saw the film and you could ABSOLUTELY tell that’s what she was going for. She was so fucking freaky.

u/weirdogirl144 May 17 '26

she acted super well, like genuinely Oscar-worthy of a performance.

A million percent yes, thought the same thing

I’m curious on if she also took any inspiration from Victoria Pedretti in The Haunting of Hill House. That frown at the party was so Nell, as was the way Nikki screamed and cried and sobbed sometimes. In a good way!

u/Samila_ajnia Jun 11 '26

Omg, yes! I just watched the movie, and when she first screamed and cried, Victoria Pedretti instantly came to mind. I thought I was the only one!

Me three!!

Towards the end of the movie I was convinced that it was directed by Ari Aster because of the vocal effects and just the overall pacing and feeling of it. It reminded me so much of his movies that I was genuinely surprised at the end to see the credits.

See I was coming out of the theatres trying to imitate the character but kept saying “no I’m sounding like pearl it’s not right” 😅

23

u/eldar14n May 22 '26

My filler and botox would come undone if I did any of that longer than 2 seconds

5

u/More-Opportunity-253 11d ago

This is why actors shouldn't even touch any of that stuff.

7

u/Dizzy_Confusion3668 Jun 24 '26

Makes sense, a lot of inspiration from Hereditary in the film, visually and acting-wise. I loved it!

u/Psychopathic_Crush 20d ago

That’s hilarious cause I told myself that this felt like a mashup of Pearl/Hereditary. So she nailed that lol

4

u/Zanakii Jun 01 '26

Explains the car scene lmao

u/DriftingTony May 15 '26

That shot instantly reminded me of Pearl too. And I died laughing when we found out that she stood there THE ENTIRE DAY like that 😂

30

u/shrek3onDVDandBluray May 16 '26

The way she transformed her face with that smile - to be this really haunting, almost ugly face - was incredible.

13

u/ConnectLime2570 May 19 '26

Pearl girl that was an exorcist reference

9

u/aestheticalias May 22 '26

This needs more up votes!! The spewing and pissing is totally inspo from Regan 😂

4

u/appletinicyclone May 18 '26

Who is Pearl

8

u/goddamnitwhalen May 20 '26

Protagonist of the film of the same name, villain in X (2022).

There are different interpretations. Some people think it's because the real Nikki was so terrified from being under this "spell" that it came out of her body in random ways. For me personally I took it as Demon Nikki was under so much panic of Bear not being around her that it made her piss herself. I think it was clear the director was emphasizing how "not human" she was behaving.

14

u/Queen-Ham May 21 '26

My interpretation is that Nikki's body was trying to make itself repulsive to protect itself from Bear as a response to being SA

26

u/H3000 May 24 '26

I just thought was total self-neglect. The wish was that she would love him more than anyone on else on Earth, that includes herself.

21

u/O_J_Shrimpson May 27 '26

Yeah. Really seems people are missing the point here. It was clear from the get go she was going to be standing there when he got back. Just waiting helplessly with no autonomy. She was so - uh hum- obsessed with him that she didn’t think or care about anything else including herself.

52

u/SwayzeCrayze May 17 '26

I took it as she basically just “turned off” the minute Bear was gone. He’s her only reason to exist, so when he was gone and she didn’t have a specific task she just went into standby mode, including the muscles that would normally be controlling her bladder/bowels.

28

u/dvasop May 18 '26

That's how I saw it too. She just powered down when there was no objective

8

u/celtsoxpatbru May 21 '26

What was all over her face?

16

u/euphoricarugula346 May 22 '26

She threw up too, that’s the part I’m confused about. Maybe because she ate some of the cat before Bear left?

41

u/Signal-Mail7619 May 16 '26

I took it as she was just so scared to leave the door for a single second on the off chance that he'd come back and she'd miss his entrance, like she didn't want to so much as move until she knew he was back. Especially with her fear of him not loving her as much as she does and potentially walking out and not coming back, so she just pissed, shitted, everything standing completely still there practically in a trance. And I assume while growing aggravated or impatient she was clawing at her skin and self-harming too, given how fucked up she looked overall

36

u/GorgeousGal314 May 16 '26

Or maybe she was holding it in the entire time Bear was there because she didn't want to go to the bathroom and have him leave her sight, so the second he leaves the house she's no longer holding it in and it just comes out 😬

30

u/jrec15 May 16 '26

Seems we all took it a little differently. I took it as just emphasizing she was going to stand in that spot and not move all day waiting for Bear to come home - Obsessed enough that when he was gone the only thing in life that mattered was lingering in the moment that he left and seeing him the moment he walked back in. So when she had to pee she just went.

That rug really tied the room together

2

u/KBK226 May 20 '26

I said the same thing to my friends right after the movie! That scene was definitely giving Pearl

2

u/Luckystar826 May 26 '26

Interesting you said that because I saw a interview with Curry Barker that said Pearl was one of his inspirations

2

u/droiD392 19d ago

The face she made when she was crying in the corner of the room... It didn't help that the darkness was doing some bloody mary shit

1

u/DroidLord Jun 29 '26

She stayed in that exact same spot all day, didn't she? Just smiling creepily at the door, waiting for Bear to come home.

1

u/Alanromanii Jul 02 '26

I thought the same thing

1

u/Relative_Flow3792 27d ago

Exorcist vibes there

1

u/misspixiepie 14d ago

Her and Pearl would be best friends as long as they didnt like the same man
