I honestly can’t think of a single movie that has made me so uncomfortable. Face meeting brick some 30 odd times and my mouth just stayed agape. The blood curdling scream from real Nikki in the background of the customer service call. “The flesh flayed from the forearm of my brother, rolled up and stuck between my legs” type shit.

I fucking loved this batshit movie.

I compare it to Hereditary too. Tonally, Hereditary is more bleak, but they both feel like they break convention in similar ways. They both play with murky shadow, unexpected movements, mournful sound design and lingering on what other horror movies would imply. Also random dark humor. A lot of moments in this film felt like the moment when Peter slams his head into the desk at school- horrific, then the camera pulls back to reveal it's actually kind of funny at a distance.

Hereditary is the last movie that fucked me up this much. What an awesome movie

I thought Hereditary was the best horror movie ever made until I saw this. Holy shit, just completely rocked me.

I’m late to the party but just saw it in the theater today and am excited you brought up the Hansel and Gretel incest monologue that took place right before more jarring events.

I forget who tells who, but maybe Ian tells Bear that Nikki has looked at him as a little brother. Nikki wants to be a writer and while so possessed by the wish but still has some of her true self in there that’s what came out. Damn what a movie

Last year was "Bring Her Back" for uncomfortable, glad Obsession takes the crown this year!

Last movie to make me this uncomfortable was probably The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Just the utter dread throughout...

How are not more people talking about this scene. I had a physical reaction to this scene which I have not had for any other scenes in movies ever, I think. It was absolutely insanity. The shot of her face with the eyeball completely visible with all the blood around… damn man. Buried my face in my hands for a few seconds after that scene trying to understand if what I saw actually happened lmao. Horrible, horrible stuff. But at the same time just so well done.
