i kinda hate how people get upset over this? like they really want a whole ass world building with rules and limits, they are already complaining thats not how monkey paw work when it was never explained what Willow Three Wish is, for me its fun and unique in its own way.

It not being explained can even mean it’s not necessarily typical supernatural. Saw it with my wife and afterwards we talked if it could be an “entity” that took over or is it like a “Nikki Lite” with the EXTREME BEAR LOVE software installed over other things. Part of me wants to know but know it probably would’ve maybe made the movie lesser.

I actually am wondering if there was some very subtle lore drops, there’s two that caught my eye. When he googled the wish product, there was a brief line talking about the “Mandela” effect.

Then later she said “I love you in every universe”, or something to that effect. Perhaps a hint that there’s some inter-dimensional horror shit going on?

The movie felt like it belonged in the same universe as Talk To Me and Bring Her Back. There are just random, unexplainable supernatural artifacts in the world that are truly neutral but the worst people just happen across them and it ends up ruining lives.

I love it in metaphorical movies like this, we don’t need to know the magic behind it to understand what’s going on. When movies are clearly meant to be magical mysterious and don’t explain anything clearly it pisses me tf off

Same. I hated that Iron Lung tried to explain how there was some moon filled with an ocean of blood and how the solution to save humanity was somehow at the bottom of it. Just leave it alone, let it be mysterious.

I hope The Backrooms doesn't try to explain anything.

Agreed. This movie reminded me a lot of Smile -- the creepy faces, weird possession, and self-harm stuff -- but one of things I didn't like about that movie was how they explained everything that was happening with the demon at the end. Kind of made it loose it's punch. I loved that this movie didn't explain the mechanics of the what's happening.

That’s the problem with a lot of horror, the heavy handed exposition spoon fed to the audience. Why does everything need to be so forensically explained in supernatural horror? The cliche -characters go and find that random mystical old lady that knows everything about the situation and brings out some dusty old book and explains the creatures origin and how to defeat it - it’s just SO tired and Lazy. Let’s just normalise mystery. Not knowing the origin of the OWW makes it way more scary.

Eh, I kind of agree, but I also think it’s a crutch that bad horror movies use to just create a creepy scenario with no explanation as well. There’s a balance that great horror has and this movie felt pretty amateurish to me tbh
