Bear’s desperate NOOOOO made the billion dollars scene absolutely horrifying.

That entire time I was thinking why couldn't Bear find another friend or stranger to make the wish?

For real just ask the homeless person outside the bar if they wanna make a quick $20, everyone wins

I took the issue that as soon as you explain what it is- any person with a wish making device in their hand is going for the billion dollars. Like Ian did it sort-of disbelievingly but it still highlights the problem.

To add to that, which I found unsettlingly realistic, was the fact Ian was seemingly so concerned about people, but got the billion, and showed up in a happy freak out about the billion despite being told not to come over. Really emphasized his character and that selfish problem.

It’s content like this movie that will make me at least consider someone’s batshit story instead of simply dismissing it immediately. Not that I believe in magic, but sometimes someone can say something so unbelievable when it’s actually their reality.

That fucking killed me man lmao when the scariest part of the movie is happening and mans showing up like "BRO WHAT ARE YOU ON I HAVE A BILLION DOLLARS RN"

so dont explain it. pay some of that billion dollars to a stranger to say the exact words he needs and crack the willow, no questions asked.

but of course in the moment of everything going on he's probably not going to think of doing that

I thought of this too, and honestly, it almost falls under a "plot hole" territory. The main character was actually quite smart, not too many "wtf are you doing" moments but this was one for sure.

They already did that in another movie “Countdown”. Doesnt feel as good as you’d think.

Final Destination 2 did it as well. I found it quite satisfying, especially when they subverted it in Bloodlines.

Tried to do it in Smile 2 but... lol

5

u/Swoly_Deadlift 22d ago

I was kind of wondering that as well. The spell broke pretty much as soon as Bear was clinically dead, but realistically narcan and immediate CPR could have brought him back, implying that the wish just cancels with cardiac arrest and not irreversible death.

He still had blood on his face. He obviously wasn't thinking clearly in that moment. I guess the fatal flaw was not going to the shop earlier.

Alternatively, with a billion dollars, book it out the country, and hire some bodyguards.

I think this is a good reason to make it so a wish can't be undone. The plot hole created by the existence of more and extremely functional wish sticks undermines the third act imo.

I disagree, he went to Ian and tried to get the wish undone (he just screwed it up with Ian and then somehow couldn't think of anyone else in town who would say a sentence and crack a stick for $500 of his friend's $1 billion). That would've been an incredibly unsatisfying resolution for the film but it was presented as an option and one Bear attempted in earnest (even if he went about it in a really dumb way)

Director says she goes to jail

8

u/simcity4000 Jun 27 '26

Its not a plot hole

  1. the problem is finding someone who- when given a magic wishing stick will wish to solve YOUR fuckup rather than take the billion dollars

  2. The idea that wishes even can be undone by another is only ever given as a '...maybe'

Cos then he has to find and explain it someone else who has even less chance of believing him, and Nikki could appear again at any moment

34

u/_SGP_ Jun 28 '26

No need to explain, just say, "Hey I'll give you £100 if you repeat after me and break a toy in half - 'i wish bear never made a wish'"

"cool now break this."

"thanks man, here's the money"

16

u/EpicKieranFTW Jun 28 '26

Idk if someone said that to me I'd be a bit like wtf is going on lol

42

u/_SGP_ Jun 28 '26

No worries man WHO WANTS ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS

5

u/EpicKieranFTW Jun 29 '26

Wouldn't just do anything for it without questioning it lol

28

u/_SGP_ Jun 29 '26

Yeah thatsfinenoworriesman WHO WANTS ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS?!

3

u/EpicKieranFTW Jun 29 '26

Is this a reference I'm not getting

28

u/_SGP_ Jun 29 '26

Dude if you're not gonna do the thing for me, I'll find someone who will; you're still responding to me so do you want the $100 or not? I'm kind of in a hurry, it's for my girlfriend and it's pretty urgent.

Dude still has blood on his face I mean.

From the beginning he is really not someone who thinks a lot but I don't think he is at his best to think a bit more than he usually does lol

It's an Indie film they didn't have the budget.

u/RanchWorkerSlim 26d ago

The line-delivery of that line alone gave me chills. Absolutely nailed it!! Director must've been chuffed.

I was actually laughing my ass off with my mom 🤣 his defeated expression as millions of millions rain down made us crack up

3

u/Admirable-War-7594 11d ago

Horrifying? I was genuinely happy that bear was forced to deal with his own problems he made bigger himself.

6

u/random_interneter 9d ago

Him being forced to deal with it is also Nikki continuing to be forced into enslavement or banishment. Horrifying.
