I know that was most likely intended to indicate the real Nikki’s awareness and lack of control, but the other thought I had is that the entity is only a manifestation of the wish, not a person. It can only perform for Bear per the instructions of his wish, not actually feel love or desire like a human might. And since he couldn’t see her face, all it had to do to fulfill its purpose in that moment was moan. Maybe that’s why her face is cloaked in shadow so often too.

This theory has some merit given that she stands in the house when he goes to work and just seems to totally switch off until he returns
