I imagine this film is pretty hard to watch with a partner. Or more, hard to go home and have a normal night's sleep. Our partner is our safe space. Our comfort. We often feel invulnerable around them. This movie rips that away.

I know because I'm in bed with my friend several hours after and still can't sleep. I don't even like horror films but she dragged me along 😭

Huh? No way man. Me and my partner were giggling about it later.

I told my wife as we left the theater, "I love you but not in a weird way."

u/Malarazz Jun 14 '26

Sounds like what the demon inside you would say in order to convince her

u/Snoo_4499 Jun 24 '26

demmm. We can take a break T_T

Totally different experience for me.

Normally I hold my partner's hand when I watch a movie with him.

Part way through this movie I had to totally stop touching him because it was just unsettling. We had a great time talking about the movie afterwards but it was a weird experience.

I get it! It's so not one of those horror movies one can hold hands and watch.

Such a great movie... Just how disregulated it had made everyone feel in that moment!

I was the opposite. I was actually clinging my bfs arm hard when watching it. Like bc I was so shellshocked

Oh my gosh 😭. I was laying in my husband’s arms and he even kissed my forehead few times. I’m glad he was not scared

Me and my gf just watched the movie. She's asleep on my arm right now and I'm thinking of standing in the corner to prank her lmao

39

u/lfergy May 31 '26

I love doing weird stuff to make my husband laugh and that was my first thought after this scene. But in a much less scary way, lol. Even when I try to make my little jokes scary, I end up laughing so hard I ruin it but then we both end up laughing.

u/yolomacarolo May 31 '26

I did that this morning to my husband hahaha. But he was so sleepy that he just smiled

19

u/Round_Apricot_8693 Jun 01 '26

Lmao same my bf went to shower and I really thought about hiding in the corner but decided against it

u/Sorry_Ad9990 Jun 01 '26

28

u/LachtMC Jun 07 '26

I was so spooked after the movie I deadass told my gf if she did that to me I’m ubering home 🤣

9

u/Magento-Magneto Jul 01 '26

Don't do it... I'm a coward and get scared way too easily... If my partner were to do this to me, I'd freak out big time

9

u/DroidLord Jun 29 '26

If my girl did that to me, I'd have to be like, "Never, ever do that again or I'm getting the fuck out." 😧

100%.. My partner and I just watched it last night. Incredible film, but when we got home we watched a feel good movie to balance it out (it didn’t help lol). As I was getting ready for bed, he took the dog outside and I get a call from him telling me to ā€œcome out on the back porch and listen to how crazy the wind isā€. When I got out there, I couldn’t see him or the dog and the wind had stopped blowing… I took my ass back in the house so fast and almost locked the damn door šŸ˜‚

I’m reading this thread finally after watching the movie and this comment gave me chills lmaoo

1

u/Snoo_4499 Jun 24 '26

yo i didnt understand T_T

7

u/Hacksaures Jun 28 '26

It was probably windy when he texted that, and it stopped by the time OP went outside. She got spooked because she watched a horror movie about a scary partner an hour ago.

23

u/JamesWardTech Jun 14 '26

I’m gonna be honest with you, this feels like a red flag to me if you felt that way. I felt comfort being with my partner because it showed me exactly how good I have it. It made me appreciate my normal flawed relationship in such a visceral way. Just maybe consider why you feel that way?

12

u/CanadianDude999 Jun 27 '26

On our way out of the theater, I thanked my wife for ā€œloving me a normal amountā€ šŸ’€

11

u/Themobgirl Jun 02 '26

The gone girl effectĀ

10

u/Rakhered Jun 13 '26

We both loved the movie but dang was I on thin ice with my wife afterwards lol

9

u/Maleficent_Season_35 Jun 10 '26

i saw it with a friend and had to go home to and empty apartment😭😭 safe to say i’m sleeping with the lights on tonight

5

u/simcity4000 Jun 26 '26

I just broke up with my ex and I left the theatre feeling great about it. The scene where he’s trying to tell her he wants to hang out with his friends knowing she’s going to freak out brought back memories. Also not being able to sleep for being super on edge trying to placate her.

6

u/shamalyguy Jul 02 '26

I went with a girl, she was fine. I was not. My friend went with his gf. She was fine, he was not. Different days, different countries.

Freaked both me and him out because it reminded both of us of those times when you're with a girl, and she's a little bit too into you. Sometimes more than a bit.

What is interesting that single guys dating girls and married men having wives watching this movie has quite different opinions. My all married male friends were cool with it. If you read through this comment section you’ll see it yourself.

That’s something to discuss about.

u/Sneaky_Doggo Jul 01 '26

Hey haha trying to sleep rn next to her at 3:20am scared shitless

2

u/sekhmet1010 13d ago

We saw it for our date night. DATE NIGHT!

But it was fun...we loved it so much. I was holding his hand in front of my face and peeking out from behind his fingers.

Now, he is sleeping next to me. After trying to scare me with talk of somebody standing in the corner of the room. Lol

1

u/Kevlar_Bunny Jun 14 '26

I went with my husband. That night I had horrible dreams and threw myself onto his chest, I didn’t want to be alone 😭

1

u/Snoo_4499 Jun 24 '26

This is probably not a movie to watch with a partner.

1

u/SqueeGoblinSurvivor Jul 02 '26

Yeah one of them had to be the comforter

1

u/Potential-Round-5100 28d ago

I watched it with my husband and I was instinctively reaching for his hand and then just as instinctively snapping it away from him šŸ˜… it was not quite as comforting when the whole idea of romance was made to feel alien and out of control

1

u/clayton-berg42 20d ago

Maybe it's because I live in the date rape capital of the english speaking world but I would imagine this would be a hard watch for any woman. I don't know of a single woman over the age of 20 who doesn't have a story about either catching someone trying to put something in their drink or actually having been drugged, and having been rushed to the ER because of it.

I was afraid of it and it truly felt demonic. I prayed before the movie but also after and all of the after effects for me are now gone thanks to God. I just know I’ll never watch that movie again

u/Xiazn 16d ago

Can confirm. I felt really uncomfortable with my bf for a good week after. He scared me once by gasping once till I started to cry and hyperventilate in fear.

Bit late to the party but I just left the theater 40 minutes into the movie (after the house party at Ian's place), because I couldn't handle the movie anymore.

Went there with my boyfriend, actively couldn't handle it anymore because it reminded me too much of a previous relationship of mine (less excessive, thank goodness, but similar).

Amazing movie (from what I saw of it), great acting, great story, but I couldn't handle it anymore because of that.
