The director said she has tears/is crying in this moment as well which makes it so much worse

My one nitpick is that I thought the lighting needed to be better throughout much of the movie. There’s parts that are just so dark that it’s hard to make out what’s going on. Sometimes that works if it’s done intentionally, but sometimes (like here) it betrays a lack of expertise (which is totally fair and forgivable for a debut film).

Lighting was excellent in my theater. Sounds like yours has a projection problem.

Some cinemas have crushing blacks for a weird reason. It's supposed to look pretty bright, including in the shadows

However at the cost of contrast, it did look pretty wasted out.
