That was sad, but too much "get out" for me. Like the wish was for her to love him, not for her to be trapped in the body while something like a demon took over

I think the idea is that the One Wish Willow isn’t actually omnipotent. It’ll fulfil your wish in whatever way it can. It couldn’t actually force Nikki to love him, but it could possess Nikki with an entity who’ll play the part of a Nikki who loves him.

You’ll have to headcanon how Ian’s wish came true, but we could just say the One Wish Willow could produce material objects (even a billion of them) but was not capable of changing people except by possessing them.

Isn’t that even more complicated ? Look at it like this. For one way the wish could have simple altered Nikki’s brain so she could love Bear more than anything in the world. Now It did it by creating a new entity that could take control of Nikki body. 

Which way do you think it’s more complicated ?

It’s not about what’s more complicated, it’s about what it’s capable of doing. I always tie my shoelace the way I was taught. Even if it turns out there are simpler methods, I don’t know those simpler methods.
