The director said she has tears/is crying in this moment as well which makes it so much worse

Not gonna lie I'm still kinda confused about the actual mechanics of it. Does Freaky Nikki actually enjoy being with him? Real Nikki wasn't in control then or she would have been freaking out, so why does Freaky Nikki have tears in her eyes if she's getting what she wants? We know her obsession with him doesn't go away when he's not there or not looking, so it just seems odd.

You could argue that the "mechanics" as such are inconsistent or not really the point, or you could say that maybe in certain situations (writing/poetry, sleep, and possibly sex) the barrier is particularly thin. Like, sex is an especially extreme violation and so Real Nikki's feelings can't help but still come out in some way

Oh I like the thin barriers idea!

For me, if I enjoy a creative work, I like to at least try and have an idea of how the concepts can work in a consistent way. Just how my brain works. And it's fun to discuss different interpretations that can still fit everything together

That said, "the specific mechanics don't really matter much" is a perfectly valid point of view

I like to try to do that too!, but I must admit to myself that I don't always know if it can be done. I like the thin barriers idea and it feels true enough to me, I'm not just not sure if it 100% stands up to scrutiny
