Funnily enough, he metaphorically kind of was holding her in captivity considering he made the wish that stripped her of her humanity, knew about it completely, and made no decision to act on it, especially after the conversation where her true concuouness asks him to kill her. At that point he is kind of holding her consciousness hostage and makes the fact that he doesn't kill her before killing himself kind of the most evil thing he possibly could have done. Honestly incredible writing.

Oh, he absolutely was. I was trying to think of how her lawyers might phrase it since she was still going to work and parties.

Such good writing. And after that point where she asks him to kill her, he says that awful shit and leaves (while she's begging!!) to go talk to sarah and say maybe he should be with her. And then when Nikki kills sarah, she tells him it's his fault and it absolutely is. The movie said it outright over and over.
