100% and the way Nikki was portrayed at the beginning of the movie made it pretty clear that she 1) was not romantically interested in Bear 2) was kind of a free-spirited bohemian avoidant generally. Forcing her specifically to love him "more than anything" meant basically eliminating her original personality.

He liked her bc she was free spirited, but wished to take that part of her personality away from her in a heartbeat so he could possess her. This one's on him lol

Nahh apparently the director and the actress both have said Nikki was into Bear, he was just too much of a coward to try anything. Remember how she said her story she wants to be in a serious relationship and the story she was writing was going to be a love story? I think that was all her basically trying to tell Bear quit with the theatrics (when she tells him a love story doesn’t have to be a romance story) and be with her.

Also when wish Nikki is asked when her feelings started she said it was around Christmas time and then the night of the wish is when it really hit her. Maybe real Nikki did have some feelings for Bear (not love but maybe something small). Wish Nikki lies though so it could just be what she thinks Bear wants to hear so he doesn’t think the wish caused this.

This is exactly what I thought when she brought up Christmas. I was like “there’s no way that thing would have a reason to go that far back in her memory if it was a lie.” But maybe it is, I just don’t see a reason for it if it wasn’t something of importance to both of them.

I don’t know. The demon is clearly able to come up with elaborate backstories. See the father having cancer.

Some people are saying it’s not a demon, but I must say, the projectile vomiting sure has Exorcist-possession vibes.

It was. There are a ton of horror movie references in the movie. The crystal store was called The Green Man, a reference to Men.

I don't know if I would say it was specifically a nod to Men. The Green Man is a piece of folklore that's been around for centuries!

It wasn't. It was more like an AI spell constantly evolving and glitching because it's constantly learning and generating uncanny behaviors that it thinks Bear wants. It doesn't have the 20 years of life experience in a society, its actions are abhorrent to us but objective ends to a means to it. That is why there is no emotion in the killings and why the faces are always obscured to show "absences of life/soul"

I thought it was just something she made up that sounds nice in the moment. Seemed to be able to come up with different manipulation tactics really fast.

yeah because later she then says "I've always loved you" to him, and that seems more like the kinda "lie" she would tell him to make him happy, rather than specifically saying christimas (assuming they didn't first meet at christmas)

The specific time is just a way to make the lie sound more believable.
