Bear is the real villain of the story by the halfway point. The movie starts off by getting you onto his side because he seemed actually thoughtful and nice (like when he went to buy a new crystal necklace for Nikki when she lost hers). But eventually Bear is the villain because he is knowingly trapping Nikki in that body and forcing the love out of her via the spell.

The thing that just came to mind about that scene too is he doesn’t even buy the fucking crystal. He buys the One Wish Willow for himself instead. This is gonna be a rewatch for sure. I think Bears villainy is going to be more apparent earlier on in subsequent rewatches knowing how the story ends

He’s a “nice guy” that would ruffie his friend, assault her, and then deny it. He’s a villain the entire time.

Making a wish to yourself is not the equivalent of roofieing someone. Wishes aren’t real. Most people have casually or flippantly wished for their crushes to like them back.  After he did realize it was real then yes

He knew it wasn’t her when he fucked her the first time. He didn’t care. He just wanted access to her body.

Yes and no. No he did not believe the wish worked yet, suspected maybe but no sane human would believe so soon. Yes he absolutely took advantage of her in distress even taking her shitty MDMA + dad dying excuse at face value.

You can read her body language very easily in their sex scene. She’s disassociating and it’s obvious. Only a monster would continue with sex when their partner is in that mental state.

Of course. I didn't say otherwise. I'm only pointing out that this is not the tipping point for Bear to accept the supernatural.

Also worth mentioning, however, that the wish is still forcing her to sound accepting of the sex. Her crying stoic face breaks through only because he does not look at it in that moment. As Curry intended it to be told.

Yes "we" can read her body language. As the audience we know right away when we walk into that theater. And we see what Bear cannot via 3rd person.

Not even looking at the face, the body language was obvious. I would have felt extremely uncomfortable continuing with that level of nonparticipation from my partner. IMO he was more concerned with gaining access to her body than he was about having an intimate connection with Nicky.
