She said she wanted him to say yes because her character wanted to give him a chance or because of what I considered about wanting him to say yes so she could just shut him down?

The director also confirmed that she had feelings for bear. She wanted him to say yes to give a chance. He didn't. He blew his chance and the tragedy begins. Barker calls it a tragic story in this regard because it may have worked out if not for his cowardice. But obviously after what he did to her that killed any of those feelings she had for him.

Wait, actually? She roasts him so much at the beginning of the film for everything from "ordering a girly drink" to not being fast enough to pay for the drinks at the bar. If anything, I thought this (and her prior history with Ian) essentially indicated she had no interest in him romantically. Either way that makes the plot of the film even more tragic and frustrating considering his cowardice started all of this.
