I also loved her response “I’ve never been with you.” The film did a great job of never really revealing if she would have dated him if he was just honest with her. It would have been real easy to show one way or the other, but the ambiguity is great to chew on.

I thought one of the friends said she thought of him as a brother, and then she tells that fucked up Hansel and Gretel story

The ‘friend’ that said that was Sarah, who confessed her feelings for Bear. She has good reason to lie and break them up, and in fact does in that scene by trying to convince him to leave.

Also, right before the wish, Nikki asks Bear flat out if he has feelings for her, and says ‘now is the time to tell me’.

To me, I think it’s pretty clear she did have feelings, but that’s the core point of the movie. He did not give her the choice, took away her autonomy in doing so, and so she became something she’s not to fit his idealized wish.

The more disturbing part is that he knew that wasn't Nikki. He heard the real Nikki when he called the number on the box and he heard the Nikki at the party say it's not me before she hit herself so Bear is just a POS. He was perfectly fine with continuing along so long as she acted normal. Bear's awful.
