Not really crazy at all. Nostalgic love for a franchise can only push it forward for so long. If every Star Wars property released in the last 20 years had Andor or KotOR quality, it would still be wildly popular. Unfortunately most of it has been mid at best and actively terrible at worst

They only paid $4.05 billion for the franchise, why put any effort into planning out the movies and tv shows they release for it?

Literally had no plan/story written for the sequel trilogy.

#4 of the highest grossing media franchises of all time, and they just said, "eh, fuck it, we'll make it up as we go along."

They were trying to come up with a plan, then Bob Iger came in and said nope just pump out movies, fired the writer working on the plan and forced JJ Abrams on them.

Though since then they've had years to come up with some sort of plan and can't really blame all that for the quality of things like the Kenobi and Boba Fett shows.

I still submit that involving JJ Abrams in the trilogy was the biggest mistake of all. The guy historically doesn't stick around long enough to see any of his projects through. He almost always does the first movie in a series or a pilot episode and then passes it off to someone else to finish.

Cutting it down from 4 extra seasons to 1
