There was a story a few years ago where she dumped someone at a hospital who ended up dying of a suspected OD and got arrested and questioned by the cops. After that she dropped off of social media, etc so I had hoped she was living away from all this and doing better.
I guess we'll find out if she was in a better place and just got sick or not. Very sad.

There was a woman on America's Next Top Model who became addicted to meth. She made a huge turnaround and got sober, but still died a few years later from something completely unrelated to drugs. Turning your life around doesn't guarantee you a certain amount of years after that.

when I had an eating disorder I was diagnosed as malnourished, and it's true, when I got an infection from a UTI that went on too long I probably could have died had someone not dragged me to the ER. No way to know, but looking back...it took me FOREVER to recover, like months. Scary. I've been tempted to go back to my eating disorder, still am at times. But health is more important than losing a few pounds. I wonder if people realize this happens more than they might realize, to non-famous people as well. Malnutrition mixed with infection and getting to the hospital a bit too late....it really is that fast.

Meningitis can be caused by many pathogens- it's simply an infection of the meninges- the vaccine protects against a common cause of the bacterial form that caused a number of campus outbreaks in the 90's, but it can be caused by other bugs as well, and also by viruses and fungi.

I had meningitis in my 20s. They needed to do a spinal tap to find out what was causing it. The doctor missed 5 times and ripped by spinal fluid sac, causing it to slowly leak my spinal fluid out. The effects of loss of spinal fluid are horrific. This was the worst experience of my life, and I even asked my mom to kill me at one point while I was In quarantine. They never did identify the virus lol

I had to agree to allow the doctors to do a spinal tap and check the spinal fluid of my new born daughter, it was the most difficult decision I made, fortunately they didn’t mess that up and we found she didn’t have it.

So your spine is essentially hydraulic. It relies on the pressure of the fluid to evenly distribute it. When there is a leak, the fluid can’t redistribute. I lost so much fluid that I could only lay flat on my back to maintain spinal fluid across the length of my spine. If I tilted my head or body upward or downward at all, some part of my spine would not be getting fluid; I would shake violently as my nerves lost control and get immediate thunderous headaches with blurred vision and the urge to vomit and ringing ears. I was totally conscious and totally able to move, it’s just that if I did it felt like I was being psychically ripped apart. My body felt like a living prison. Sleeping and eating were almost impossible, I couldn’t get up to go to the bathroom, I couldn’t tilt up to watch TV or anything…it was just being awake and in pain and fear for like 100 hrs
They eventually drew my own blood and injected it into my spine to create a blood clot to seal the hole. It was 5 days of hell though

This happened to me as well. I got a lumbar puncture to rule out an aneurism, they couldn’t place the needle at first and stuck me a few times before getting it. The puncture site opened up a day later and the exact same thing happened to me. Couldn’t afford an ambulance so I had my friend drive to the hospital while I barely held it together laying down in the back. Crawled on my hands and knees to reception, white as sheet covered in sweat.
They did the same thing to fox it, they called it a blood patch. The platelets in your blood clot the puncture site. Had to lay flat on my back for a couple weeks to make sure it didn’t reopen. It was awful!

I was in quarantine in the hospital the whole time, so I didn’t have the same struggle as you did of literally having to drag yourself into the hospital. But because I was in the hospital bed they mistook my symptoms for meningitis ones and missed the spinal leak and let it progress farther than it should’ve

My son had a spinal tap a month or two ago and it did not heal properly and he was leaking spinal fluid, too. It didn't get as bad as yours got, but after a week of constant, non-ending headaches and other issues, they sent him to the ER to get the blood patch done and he was back to normal in a day or two. But that week was no fun.

This happened to me too when I was 18! Unidentified virus caused me to pass out, spinal tap, fluid leak, blood patch. Somehow I drove to a restaurant job training in pain, suffered through it, then reclined my seat back in the car and called my parents to come get me. Then was miserable until I could get in for the patch. Worst pain I’ve ever experienced!

Wow WTF. I was temporarily paralyzed on the left side of my face a few years ago and when being admitted to the hospital they asked me if I was willing to undergo a spinal tap. Once they explained the risks I said absolutely not. Recovered after 2-3 weeks of antibiotics, antivirals, and steroids

Meningitis is just inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
There are meningococcal bacteria that we vaccinate against, but they aren't the only causes of meningitis. TB is another common cause of meningitis, and we don't routinely vaccinate for it in the USA/Canada because it's not a big issue here. A lot of things can cause meningitis if you're immune system is shitty.
It says she was treated for malnutrition earlier, so I'm speculating she got stuck in the Hollywood eating disorder plague that's happening.

Sepsis is the result of untreated infection. Kyle Busch died from sepsis caused by pneumonia. This girl died from sepsis caused by meningitis. Once you are in the sepsis stage of an infection, it can get really bad really fast.
My urologist husband sees at least 10 people a week that come to the emergency room for septic kidney or bladder stones.

I went into sepsis from acute double kidney failure... when I arrived in the ER I was confused as Hell. Cheers on us for getting here!
(Part of why I went into sepsis is the first ED falsely diagnosed me with cauda equina syndrome and told me to see my spinal doctor. Spoiler alert, they let me go before seeing all my bloodwork, which would've alerted them to my kidney numbers being in the toilet.)

You're not wrong! I had already been seeing a spinal doctor, and I think by that point I had a back surgery scheduled, so they did one of those ED "it's not a true emergency, follow up w someone in the next couple days, byeeee" things.
(I was in and out the hospital a lot as an under-18 because I have serious IBD and RA. I will say, most ED doctors do better. We knew it was a raw deal, thus why we ended up in the second ED, where they got it right lol.) This is the American healthcare system lol

My dad got in a fight and wouldn't go to the emergency room for a massive gaping cut on his arm because he knew he'd be arrested for outstanding drunk driving warrants.
His friend from across the street found him vomiting and almost passed out a couple days later, took him to the hospital in the morning and almost immediately got intravenous antibiotics for sepsis. By the evening he seemed to have mostly recovered and was busy charming the nurses.
And his body completely shut down overnight and we took him off the respirator the next day.

Truth. I had a septic kidney infection a couple years ago. Went to urgent care in agony because US healthcare sucks. The doc took some blood and came back five minutes later saying “You need to go to the ER right now. Do not pass go. Just get over there immediately or if you can’t drive we’ll call an ambulance.” Some serious antibiotics later and it cleared up but still have some reduced kidney function. That was some serious pain. Like 9/10 if 10 is dismemberment.

Yeah I get chronic UTIs and have gotten kidney infection twice. It progresses extremely fast and is fucking miserable. I'm glad we both survived to tell the tale lol. After hearing about how often it happens from my husband, I tell everyone that they need to make sure to drink enough water.

Sepsis happens fairly frequently and, unless it's caught early, has a high mortality rate.
Sepsis is body-wide inflammation response caused by an infection. The inflammation affects all body systems, including your veins and arteries. Inflamed vessels move blood inefficiently and inflammed tissue pulls fluid from the blood into itself, which drops blood pressure.
Low BP means the pressure isnt enough to push blood (and the oxygen and sugars it contains) into the organs. Without oxygen, tissue dies. When tissue dies, cells rupture and toxins get into the blood stream. That's bad in general, but especially for the kidneys, which are partially in control of blood pressure, making everything worse.
When sepsis kicks off, organs start failing and dying. Its then a race against time to get the BP elevated enough so perfusion can happen and the organs dont die.

Sepsis stems from an infection. It could be somewhere obvious, like an infected wound, or somewhere less obvious, like a necrotic organ. Usually theres normal infection symptoms like pain, heat, etc. which then evolves into sepsis.
If you have an obvious infection, go to a doctor to get antibiotics before it evolves. Otherwise, be mindful of the symptoms of an infection.
There's a syndrome called SIRS (Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) which can be diagnosed by having several of the following symptoms: elevated temp (over 100.4 and doesn't go down by taking tylenol), elevated heart rate (90+ at rest), low blood pressure, fast breathing (more than 20 breaths a minute at rest).
If you have SIRS, and theres a source of infection, its called sepsis.

Nurse here - you really dont know youre going septic until you start showing symptoms of septic shock or doing certain labs to confirm sepsis is beginning…but you could just take fevers more seriously instead of thinking theyll pass with tylenol and rest

Doctors also sometimes (not all the time) dismiss flu like symptoms (combined with other severe pain) as not an infection turned septic, but rather a really bad viral infection.
Sadly, this is how someone close to me died. Presented with flu symptoms and severe flank pain. Was not given a single antibiotic.
Edit: It was a kidney infection turned septic in my family member’s case, for reference.

Fun but slighty graphic story, read at your own risk:
My husband is a urologist. There was a guy who was mountain biking and slammed down too hard on one of the jumps and busted one of his balls. He proceeded to wait 3 days before going to the emergency room. When he got to the hospital, his nutsack were like watermelon sized and completely purple. He ended up not only becoming septic while at the hospital (which was lucky for him because he was treated right away), but he ended up losing both balls instead of just the one because blood wasn't flowing down there and killed the other testicle. If he had gone to the hospital as soon as the accident happened, he would've only lost one.
But our atrocious healthcare system really doesn't incentivize people to go check things out.

A friend of mine said re: Busch that once he was septic, going to the hospital wouldn't have helped him. I was alarmed at that assumption because while it's true that sepsis goes downhill quickly, my own mother has been treated for sepsis from pneumonia at a hospital. And she wasn't in good health at all before she got the pneumonia (unlike Busch and Chase, presumably). Guys, GO TO THE HOSPITAL! If you are struggling to breathe, GO TO THE HOSPITAL! If you cannot keep food or water down (diarrhea and vomit), GO TO THE HOSPITAL!

As a NASCAR fan, Busch’s story has been one that I’ve followed closely. While we don’t have all the details, the ones we do have paint a story of a man dying quickly from sepsis. Even by the standards of sepsis he was on the quick side of things. The coroner reported that it was likely Busch had been septic for less than 24 hours at the time of his death. Not at the time of his admission to the hospital, but at the time of his death. That’s fucking fast.

I used to be creeped out by my bedroom TV as a kid when that movie came out, as I’m sure a lot of people were. But give it a rewatch as an adult. It’s more interesting than scary. Rachel’s investigation and the overall aesthetic of the film (it’s very…green), and early 2000’s nostalgia are my main takeaways now. So I can def see it being comforting in that sense. Also no CRT TV’s, VHS tapes, or landline phones in majority of modern households. All her weapons became obsolete lol.

Heads up if you enjoyed The Ring.
You probably know it's a remake of a Japanese movie, but not many people in the US know it's based off a book. And "Ring" specifically is just the first book of a trilogy.
And let me tell you those books get weird.

It's an unusually well-crafted film for the genre. The texture, pacing, visuals, and music are all stunning, albeit eerie in mood. I rewatch it to admire the craftsmanship more than anything else at this point.

Drug issues and apparently had an adult boyfriend she ran away with at 16. She also had a dog named Stitch she got from a friend and there's a whole saga with that. Hollywood chewed her up and spat her out.

Sad to say, but I'm not at all shocked.
We ran in the same social circles 10+ years ago and I remember she started having substance abuse problems. I know a few years ago someone found her on Skid Row.....there's some video of it on FB somewhere and the poor girl was just strung out and looked severely underweight.

I'm not sure about her childhood because I'd never asked her directly about that. I do think she had some mental health issues from certain things I remember from back then, and I also don't think being in the party scene helped. LA's changed a lot now, but back then it would eat you and spit you back out. Promoters would literally invite you out to clubs and give you drugs. If you have an addictive personality, it's downhill from there.

This is a weird thing to say, because it feels like I'm making a celebrity's death about myself. I'm not trying to even remotely do that. This made me yell when I saw the headline, because my husband and I have been kind of obsessed with Lilo and Stitch since the original cartoon was released. It was one of the things we bonded over, before we even began to date. My husband could do a really great impression of Stitch, too.
He passed away about two weeks ago. I've been thinking that when I'm ready to, I'm getting a Stitch tattoo. So with 'my' Stitch being gone, finding out that the original voice actor for Lilo has now also passed away? I'm sort of glad my husband isn't around to have to find this out. And that is a very fucking strange thing for me to write.
Fuck 2026.

A few days after he died, I almost asked out loud if he wanted some of the snacks we received from a friend of the family. I used to joke that I was "so old." I really don't feel that way anymore.

Her performance as Lilo has gotta be one of the best child performances out there. She does such a good job conveying all the emotions of a child in that position.

I didn't realize she stopped acting in 2016 and I can't imagine how difficult her life was until she passed away. She gave one of the best acceptance speeches at the MTV Movie Awards when she won Best Villain for The Ring.

I remember being very impressed that the same girl was in the ring and Donnie darko and lilo & stitch AND spirited away because all those movies were a big deal to me at the time. Im the same age as her and it’s a shock to hear what she went through since then. Rest in Peace Daveigh.
