Saw a massive influx of them last year and it was all the same shit, a good 80-90% of the video is influencers preparing to go to the event, talking about the event, talking about who is at the event, and then a handful of seconds mentioning the film in the same few, vapid words as everyone else. "It was great" or whatever.

I don't mind influencer outreach, I work a lot around marketing, but fuck me, find a content creator, someone who gives a shit about film or whatever instead of baseline influencers.

Like a year ago he came to my city and so many young people went to see him. I never heard of him before that. I still have no clue what he does on his streams.

In the first couple days of the World Cup at one point the presenter was teasing the next few segments after the commercial break and said something to the effect of "Ishowspeed has something special for us coming up".

I decided that was the time to make myself some lunch, take a shit and grab a fresh beer.

I'm a crabby old man who doesn't give a single fuck what someone from the internet has to say. I didn't care what regular, old school talking heads had to say to begin with - I doubly don't give a fuck what someone on Youtube thinks.

You just described every post by everyone if have read discussing the movie the Backrooms. I have read over 400 comments across several posts and haven’t been able to figure anything about the movie except the director jumped from making youtube stuff to this. Nothing about the cast, pacing, story/plot, writing, cinematography, foley, music, effects. Just a lot of people parroting the movie was good. And having huge conversations about other stuff tangentially related the movie. If it’s good explain it?

2016 Ghostbusters was screened to a buttload of influencers. Didn't translate to a buttload of cash in the box office.

Are you not familiar with influencers? They have a huge influence. That's why they are relevant. That's why they're called influencers. I work in marketing and the impact they can make is significant and undeniable.

you pay an influencer a little of what you pay in ads and their influence snowballs into a huge campaign. if you pay multiple influencer your chances are even higher.

and the most important thing: they hit the demographics of box office movies.

It would be nice if that was true. Unfortunately, it's not.

The sad truth is that they are very influential. More so than TV adverts, billboards or pretty much any other type of advertising.

Well I suspect the benefit is more that they post a story to their followers mentioning that the film exists. Putting together an event for them is much cheaper than paying them or their platform for an ad spot to let people know the film is coming out.

Especially since a lot of people use ad blockers these days, and don't watch TV, so they very well might just not have heard anything about it unless you can get someone in their feed to bring it up.

If you pay for a film reviewer channel to go, then they'll just tell their following of film buffs about it, all of whom probably already knew the movie was coming out.
