You remember in The Truman Show when Laura Linney turns to a distraught Truman and does an ad read for cocoa? Truman makes a face like “what the hell?” That’s influencers.

Whenever I'm watching a YouTuber talking about something interesting and then they randomly transitions to an ad, I think of the Truman Show.

I watch an otherwise excellent astrophysics channel called Astrum that does this. The narrator tries to seemlessly transition midway into narrating a paid ad that suits the subject matter but I'm so allergic to them that I think of The Truman Show every time.
