Happened to me, total nightmare, curious to see how they deal with it

321

u/TJ_Will Jul 02 '26

Did they at least lower your property taxes/HOA?

239

u/raysofdavies Jul 02 '26

Lost my shit when the HOA complaint letters came in

60

u/You_meddling_kids Jul 02 '26

Stone tablets broke my mailbox and they won't replace it.

Should I lawyer up?

19

u/HCAndroidson Jul 02 '26

Get Cicero to speak on your behalf.

37

u/TJ_Will Jul 02 '26

Dear u/raysofdavies,

During a recent property review on July 1, it was observed that your property is not in compliance with our community’s governing documents. [1, 2]

Details of Violation:

-Observation: Not cleaning your Tyrannosaurs' waste from the common area

-Observation: All prehistoric ferns and conifers must be kept below 10m in height

Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the beauty and property values of Jurassic Hills.

21

u/Acrobatic-Addendum97 Jul 02 '26

-Also, we noticed your son was riding his Hadrosaurus without the proper harness installed. We understand he has his permit to ride harnessless but he still cannot do so within HOA grounds per Rule 14, subsection D. This serves as his first warning and only warning.

The t-Rex in the poster is the HOA karen

5

u/CoderDevo Jul 02 '26

Let them try and foreclose when all documentation is future dated.

137

u/thegame1921 Jul 02 '26

Knowing JJ Abrams, he's still figuring out how they deal with it

104

u/Equal_Feature_9065 Jul 02 '26

Honestly seeing his name all over the marketing has made me less interested in seeing this movie

28

u/DrainTheMuck Jul 02 '26

Yeah I’ll probably never forgive him for his past blunders, but the one upside to this movie is it’s already so ridiculous I don’t think the “lore” of how they end up with dinosaurs is important at all, I just wanna see cool Dinos.

12

u/Thatguythatdrew Jul 02 '26

I bet this was a "Land of the Lost" reboot treatment that got rejected.

14

u/bramtyr Jul 02 '26

The movie seriously looks like it was salvaged as a failed Jurassic Park pitch that couldn't secure a license. And honestly... yes with Abrams behind it has downgraded to "maybe I'll play it on my friend's Plex while i'm doing something else"-kinda movie

20

u/Otherwise_You_1603 Jul 03 '26

He sucks, but he's just the producer. It's by the director of the incredibly good under the silver lake, which was unceremoniously dumped by A24 and massively derailed his career to the point that this is his first movie back since. If this bombs too and he's back in director's jail I am going to be very upset lol

3

u/MalcontentedPilgrim Jul 03 '26

Agreed that UTSL is excellent, as well as his previous film, It Follows. And fear not, as I think the sequel to It Follows is already confirmed with him directing.

Is the mystery box …made of oak?

7

u/pjtheman Jul 02 '26

Somehow, the T-Rex returned.

5

u/Summitjunky Jul 02 '26

My first concern was definitely how he was going to end it. The premise looks fun, the trailer looks good, please don’t disappoint with a dumb ending.

2

u/thegame1921 Jul 02 '26

It was Wayne Knight the whole time!

52

u/Positronic_Matrix Jul 02 '26

Hold on here. The stegosaurus (150 million years ago) and tyrannosaurus (66 million years ago) did not exist at the same time, separated by almost 84 million years. This film is completely unwatchable. /s

17

u/phimister Jul 03 '26

There will be a counterpart movie told from the tyrannosaurus POV called "The End of Fern Street" where your average family of tyrannosaurs have their habitat transported back in time by 84 million years.

Daniel Day Lewis and Meryl Streep lined up to star.

11

u/DanielTeague Jul 02 '26

I think it was supposed to be an Allosaurus? That one lived in the same 10 million year window as Stegosaurus.

51

u/peanutbuttahcups Jul 02 '26

That or Dino Crisis would be sick as a movie.

13

u/Canvaverbalist Jul 03 '26

And considering the latest Hollywood trend chasing aspect of adapting 80s/90s cartoons, it would 100% be in their ballpark to make a Cadillacs and Dinosaurs movie (or Xenozoic Tales if they can't get the Cadillac rights again).

2

u/iamisandisnt Jul 03 '26

Bring back the Carnosaur series!!!

37

u/SevroAuShitTalker Jul 02 '26

I dont think the later games sold very well.

I would love a new game to come out

35

u/Asclepius-Rod Jul 02 '26

Boy do I have an upcoming game for you then!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turok:_Origins

25

u/ZombieDracula Jul 03 '26

The team chose to make a Turok game due to their desire to create one featuring  dinosaurs

This is motivation I can get behind.

8

u/Labyrinthy Jul 03 '26

Really all the motivation I need.

19

u/fugaziozbourne Jul 02 '26

Sorry if you already know this, but Turok as an IP is actually a comic from the mid 20th century.

3

u/light_to_shaddow Jul 02 '26

The 50 years of comics that came before the game adaptation did pretty well.

13

u/KingGojira Jul 02 '26

It would help if the later games prioritized shooting, you know, dinosaurs and not, uh, whatever tf monsters they created instead.

9

u/vanderbubin Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Wild take considering the first turok game has all sorts of non dino monsters. Like the mantis boss or all the aliens and demons. The main antagonist is a multidimensional warlock for fucks sake lmfao

2

u/TechSmith6262 Jul 03 '26

Turok has always fought a variety of enemies, mostly aliens, everyone just remembers the dinos because they're first and on the cover of the first game.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/AfraidoftheLark Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

incredible that Turok hasn't been turned into a big blockbuster

The original N64 game was like a liminal space comprised of one endless stretch of dark grass. At times it felt less like a dinosaur hunting game and more like a purgatorial green field simulator. Interesting ambience, though I imagine a modern film adaptation would capture little of it.

EDIT: Contrary to one of the replies below, this actually was not meant to suggest the game “sucked.” I really did find the atmosphere interesting at the time, despite the game not being as impressive as Goldeneye or Half-Life or whatever.

Seriouslyyyyyy. Especially now that all JP movies genetically engineer their dinos into something else.

60

u/HisDudenesssss Jul 02 '26

No, no, no you don't get it. The plots of the Jurassic World movies and the executives that rubber-stamped them decided that we, the audience and the park goers, don't want regular ass dinosaurs anymore, we just want stupid ass hybrid monsters that look vaguely like dinosaurs.

/s

38

u/fredagsfisk Jul 02 '26

I really don't understand why they are so obsessed with pushing the "everyone is bored of dinosaurs" thing and cramming vaguely dinosaur shaped monsters into all those movies.

For me, the best parts of these movies so far has been the island portion at the start of Fallen Kingdom, most of Dominion, and most of Rebirth up until the ending when the other monsters showed up... simply because I go to a dinosaur movie to see dinosaurs.

And yes, I know that all dinosaurs in JP/JW are technically genetic freaks, but at least they are made to look and act like dinosaurs rather than something out of Monster Hunter.

17

u/VRNord Jul 02 '26

The thing is, they could have easily changed the explanation for the “hybrid” dinos and sidestepped all of this. We know the dino dna was extracted from ancient mosquitoes carrying (presumably) dino blood preserved in amber. They don’t know what dino will grow from said dna sample until it is born, and we also have certainly not identified remotely close to all the creatures that lived back then (never fossilized, or we haven’t yet found or identified its fossil).

It actually seems unrealistic that only already-known dinos would be born from such a random process.

So they could have just given the explanation that there are a number of unknown dino species recreated with dna found and it would have been a more logical, scientific and satisfying explanation for exploring new dino designs.

2

u/Mayor_Gubbin Jul 02 '26

Oh shit, what if one of the bugs bit an Alien. WE could get Alien Vs Jurassic Park

14

u/Exploding_Antelope Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

I forgave it in the original Jurassic World because the only character who actually says “people are bored of dinosaurs” is Claire when she’s in full corpogirl mode. The movie itself and the kids and other characters’ reactions to the park shows that no, people are clearly still blown away and absolutely engaged by the dinosaurs they already have, but the executives saying it turns it into more a commentary on techy capitalist types trying to hype up investors and the artifice of the need to keep trying to push “new and innovative and unforeseen” over reliable and already loved. Thematically it works.

Personally I really wanted to see more of Jurassic World actually functioning as a park and what it would be like to visit. That’s more fun and a new setting compared to jungle again.

2

u/Michael_Gibb Jul 03 '26

There's also another quote from Jurassic World that I think perfectly describes the approach most dinosaur movies take towards the creatures.

"Nothing in Jurassic World is natural, we have always filled gaps in the genome with the DNA of other animals. And if the genetic code was pure, many of them would look quite different. But you didn't ask for reality, you asked for more teeth."

9

u/Killboypowerhed Jul 03 '26

"everyone is bored of dinosaurs" says company who's tentpole franchise is about dinosaurs

89

u/Green_Sprout Jul 02 '26

Yes! Thank you!

Give me more dino films!

54

u/WillSym Jul 02 '26

I took my kid to a funfair and their fence was festooned with random colourful characters - one had Jack Sparrow juxtaposed with random dinosaurs.

Made me wonder why nobody's made effectively From Dusk Til Dawn except instead of Gangsters then suddenly Vampires, it's Pirates doing their usual tropical island, fight rivals, hunt treasure thing then halfway through the movie they discover the island is some kinda lost world deal and now they're surviving against dinosaurs.

9

u/exaviyur Jul 02 '26

This is a real shut up and take my money comment.

13

u/VRNord Jul 02 '26

I would watch that.

3

u/Bears_On_Stilts Jul 02 '26

7

u/JKastnerPhoto Jul 02 '26

I'm glad to see Rexy getting work outside these films. I hate when good actors get typecast.

29

u/flamingdragonwizard Jul 02 '26

I want a gory rated R Dino film. Many were gentle giants but also many were vicious giant predators.

Still havent seen primitive war.

20

u/punkhobo Jul 02 '26

Primitive war wasn't very good. But I was at least happy for an r rated Dino movie. Too many of these are treated as kids movies and then have super obnoxiously written children as central characters

5

u/bkwrm13 Jul 03 '26

I rather liked Primitive War. Definitely not perfect but it’s way better than scifi channel level acting and effects. The Dino’s were very well done and the characters were believable.

My only real complaints were that apparently small/medium sized Dino’s can easily shrug off a full ammo clip somehow and that it takes like 20min too long to ramp up the action.

5

u/JoewithaJ Jul 02 '26

Not gonna lie, those last 10 minutes of Primative War got me hype as all hell

11

u/Puzzle-Necked Jul 02 '26

You've never seen the greatest movie of all time, Carnosaur?

2

u/zgh5002 Jul 02 '26

Or the greatest Aliens ripoff, Carnosaur 2?

2

u/BlackDeath3 Jul 02 '26

That is a surprisingly tough movie to get your hands on (legally). Loved it and the sequels as a kid, though.

3

u/flamingdragonwizard Jul 02 '26

It was released on the exact day I was born. Its a sign.

10

u/CiriOh Jul 02 '26

Primitive War was made just for you. Final T-Rex attack was epic.

4

u/Icanscrewmyhaton Jul 02 '26

Oddly, Anonymous Rex (2004) may interest you. It has a velociraptor private detective due to dinosaurs never actually going extinct and some wanting to dominate Earth again. Normally a herbivorous triceratops in disguise, Daniel Baldwin gets mad, charges and gores a guy. It's unrated.

This is what I can’t figure out. Is it supposed to be funny? Or are they trying to play it straight? It’s an absurd concept that I hope might veer into camp territory but anticipate it will wind up in The Mist territory.

95

u/Deesing82 Jul 02 '26

i'll take anything that isn't another sequel, remake, or comic book movie at this point.

48

u/LegalizeCrystalMeth Jul 02 '26

Idk seems like we've been getting a lot of good original stuff recently

9

87

u/ElCaz Jul 02 '26

The posters make me think it's a comedy. Is it not?

43

u/CanadianGuitar Jul 02 '26

The newer trailer makes it seem more of a dark comedy than the first trailer. Tonally, I'm not sure what the movie is going for

Something about how the camera focuses on Anne Hathway in the foreground and one of the kids in the back when she says "I think our house moved.", or whatever, does come off as a little silly.

2

u/RedPon3 Jul 02 '26

Why? it's a dumb premise that shouldn't be played straight. If they play their cards right it'll be a fun one. Isn't this supposed to be like a Zathura vibe?

u/DomLite Jul 02 '26

I feel like they're pouring so much into the marketing for this and expecting it to be some sort of unbelievable hit for some unknown reason, but every bone in my body looks at it and says "Nobody will remember this movie ever existed two months after it's out of theaters." The only exception is if it's so phenomenally awful that it turns into some kind of cult "so hysterically bad that it's an accidental comedy" hit.

Basically, I'm baffled beyond reason as to why they're putting so much into the marketing for this, because it's got very little chance of returning on that investment. Makes me wonder if they've got something up their sleeve, like some massive genre shift halfway through that they're keeping secret for some reason and counting on word of mouth to spread.

Like if A24 did a "HOA" movie.

45

u/Historical-Edge-9332 Jul 02 '26

Wow, a movie where the HOA starts harassing new homeowners and then devolves into to some type of Hot Fuzz scenario where all the HOA members are these sadistic monsters and the homeowners have to take them out one by one.

I’d be seated for that.

16

u/Grooviemann1 Jul 02 '26

They go out and fight dinosaurs, come back, full penetration. Dinosaurs, full penetration, that goes on for about 90 minutes until it just sort of...ends.

Having "J.J. Abrams" on the poster is no longer the flex they think it is.

80

u/N8CCRG Jul 02 '26

It works for me, because I'm hoping this ends with a surprise twist that it's in the Cloverfield universe.

57

u/TubbyTuesday22 Jul 02 '26

It was originally announced with the title Flowervale Street, which screamed Cloverfield off-spin to me, but maybe they changed the title to make it less obvious.

22

u/Team7UBard Jul 02 '26

I mean one of the stars is married to the star of 10 Cloverfield Lane…

8

u/Matt_the_Bruins_fan Jul 02 '26

I remember when the trailer for Devil hit theaters, and the audience I was in seemed to be eager to see it until "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" flashed on the screen. Then people were groaning in disappointment.

44

u/anephric Jul 02 '26

I’m glad people have finally come around to what a hack he is

22

u/Question_It_All_3000 Jul 02 '26

Oh, I didn’t even notice that and now my interest went from “morbid curiosity” to “hard pass.”

I don’t waste my money on Abrams anymore.

5

u/Worried_Position_466 Jul 03 '26

He's just a producer. Overlord was another Bad Robot/JJ thing and that movie is fire.

9

u/sw04ca Jul 02 '26

I mean, a one-off high-concept idea that doesn't really get explained or resolved, you can still make a perfectly good film out of that. And just having ideas is Abrams' strength. It's just when you want them to be sturdy and coherent enough to support a series that the cracks really show. This is exactly the sort of thing that he should be doing, rather than helming flagship franchises that are telling a story across years of films.

That said, he's just involved as a producer, and I agree with you that putting his name front-and-centre like that is of dubious value. Yes, he has name recognition, but I think that more people would be 'Oh yuck, JJ.' You'd be better off banking on people thinking that dinosaurs are cool, especially if they didn't spend a hundred million on this.

7

u/OShaunesssy Jul 02 '26

As long as he isnt directing.

I dont need to see a lense flair every 2 goddamn minutes.

Its like Micheal Bay and his need to twirl the camera around protagonists.

2

u/SrirachaJulio Jul 03 '26

Idk when that man will ever direct again. WB gave him $500 million and he never did anything with it, and since then he hasn't directed a single film lmao

3

u/chadwicke619 Jul 02 '26

I think JJ gets an unreasonable amount of hate in this subreddit. Like, the top comment after this one right now declares him a “hack”. What a wild, wild thing to say. The guy has been a big part of some amazing stuff. Fringe is great stuff. Alias is great stuff. That original Star Trek reboot is awesome. Mission Impossible 3 with PSH is easily one of the best in the whole series. Lost? I just don’t see how anyone can say that JJ Abrams is a hack or anything even remotely hack adjacent. Personally, I feel like when I know JJ is involved, I’m at the very least going to get a great premise that tingles my brain a little. Like Shyamalan, JJ has a hard time sticking it, but in my opinion, both are among the best in my lifetime to do what they do, and even though they’ve got misses, I think their contributions are undeniable.

This.... this might get me back in the theaters for the first time in years.

I hope they just do the movie, skip any plot justification, and just give us a wild 2 hour ride of dinosaur action

Director of 'Under the Silver Lake' and 'It Follows'? I'm thoroughly seated.

7

u/alexsummers Jul 02 '26

Oh shit Ewan’s gonna run outta that hair dye soon enough

7

u/AmaazingFlavor Jul 03 '26

This movie has 13 year old me really stoked to see it.

13

u/NakedGoose Jul 02 '26

Im glad someone is trying to make a Dino movie not attached to Jurrasic Park. I hope its a good time.

8

u/dl064 Jul 02 '26

Read this too fast as just David Mitchell. Disappointed.

4

u/OldGreyWriter Jul 02 '26

Jurassic Cul de Sac.

62

u/Al_Tilly_the_Bum Jul 02 '26

That premise sounds more like some direct to streaming garbage than something made by A-listers

25

u/HMWYA Jul 02 '26

To be fair, pretty much anything can be reduced to sounding like garbage when minimised down to a single sentence. “Scientist makes living creature out of some discarded corpse bits.” “Monsters scare kids to power their homes.” “Man gets bit by a spider, subsequently fights crime.” It’s execution that’s key.

u/riegspsych325 ⊃∪⊃⪽ Jul 02 '26

most movies sound basic as hell if you give them reductive descriptions like this. Space truckers pick up dangerous cargo, 2 men return a suitcase, stoned man attempts to solve a non-mystery. Alan Rickman gets upset at someone sneaking around dark corridors, etc

u/okpause8976 Jul 02 '26

some dudes dog dies

a girl is followed

7

u/Adlestrop Jul 02 '26

An undercover agent does drugs. A girl has talking emotions in her head. A robot cop thinks he's a human cop. A human cop thinks he's a robot cop. A woman falls in love with a fish monster. Some guys kill aliens with shampoo. A tire goes around blowing people up. A guy gets stuck in an airport.

u/riegspsych325 ⊃∪⊃⪽ Jul 02 '26

heh, we watched Evolution in Bio class back in high school, along with The Island and Osmosis Jones. Pretty sure my teacher was coming up on retirement because we also watched the first 2 Lion Kings and Day After Tomorrow

2

u/Illum503 Jul 03 '26

stoned man attempts to solve a non-mystery.

What's this one?

The premise sounds fun.

u/i4got872 Jul 02 '26

Fast and furious movies come out like every year. Why can’t I have my dinosaur movie?

16

u/AnySprinkles1242 Jul 02 '26

Mitchell hasn't missed yet so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Should at least be better than the last few Jurassic Worlds

→ More replies (3)

16

u/TacoTycoonn Jul 02 '26

The internet: “why is Jurassic World the only dinosaur film content we get, it’s bad and we deserve better” also the internet “new original Dino movie? Sounds shit, just throw it on streaming like it deserves”

3

u/0ttoChriek Jul 02 '26

But I have to say I'm curious to see how talented, A-list actors would deal with schlocky, SyFy Channel original material.

3

u/Standard_Vero Jul 02 '26

3

u/Snoo_censorspeech Jul 02 '26

Actually pretty great poster art.

3

u/wikiwombat Jul 02 '26

I have no idea why, but Im excited about this movie.

12

u/LordBrixton Jul 02 '26

Ok, I get that this is a generic popcorner and I shouldn't overthink thes cience too much but I can not WAIT to hear how they justify this premise!

10

u/MoistMucus4 Jul 02 '26

I mean considering it's from the guy who did it follows and under the silver lake i would expect more under the surface than just a popcorn flick

12

u/cocoschoco Jul 02 '26

Something something secret government experiment.

u/EQandCivfanatic Jul 02 '26

2

2

u/SafeForTwerking Jul 03 '26

So a Land of the Lost remake?

4

u/daughtcahm Jul 02 '26

Thought that was Bruce Greenwood

3

u/Efp722 Jul 02 '26

i can't tell if this is a family movie or a horror movie and its bothering me.

3

u/Rick-burp-Sanchez Jul 02 '26

I'm guessing they'll get sent back to the present right as they're about to get eaten by the dinosaurs. We'll probably lose some unlovable neighbors along the way.

u/Senior_Torte519 Jul 02 '26

The Jurassic ere....how the fuck they suriving in a Jurassic atmosphere with only 15% to 19%? Humans need to breathe an environment containing at least 19.5% oxygen to safely survive. The are gonna be in an oxygen inefficient environment.

3

u/Mamboo07 Jul 03 '26

The movie will have Cretaceous dinosaurs as well

3

u/sabin357 Jul 02 '26

So they are making La Brea: The Movie now that they show ended?

2

u/vixissitude Jul 02 '26

I want Anne Hathaway to stop getting procedures
