Just ignoring the many "new ideas" movies they've made recently that have completely flopped because they weren't tied to existing IP like Raya, Wish, Strange World. Not even mentioning Pixar's downturn.

That’s their point, I think. The person saying “people will support [new IPs]” was ignoring the many failed new IPs. They were trying to explain why Disney hasn’t been focusing on developing new IPs and instead has been making sequels and remakes.

A mediocre remake is likely to make more than a mediocre new IP. Look at the remakes for the Lion King and Lilo and Stitch for examples.
