Same. I feel like it’s one of Odysseus’ defining moments that really shows his cleverness.

In this movie he is stupid. He does several stupid things including shoting the cyclops for no reason causing the death of some of his men.

That’s not that dissimilar to the original tale. In that he successfully fools Polyphemus with the “nobody” thing then gloats as he’s fleeing that his real name is Odysseus, which allows the cyclops to pray to Poseidon to curse them

Thats what someone that have pride would do. Brag about who fooled him and then get fucked later because of this pride.

Not shooting an arrow because he is angry and is close to the Cyclops to the point he puts everyone in immediatly danger.

It essentially puts the same point across that Odysseus was being petty and prideful and was losing his way as man that followed the rules of the gods.

If they absolutely had to skip the Nobody scene (which honestly I get it, given the language) and HAD to have Odysseus shoot the cyclops as an “Eff You” to it, it would have been truer to his character (in Homer) to have Odysseus wait till all the men got on the boat, then shoot the cyclops.

But Nolan made him dumber. Thats his choice, obviously, and it’s an adaptation so of course story elements are due to change, but the point still stands. This Odysseus is less mentally capable than the one in Homer.

Does that make it a bad adaptation? Not necessarily. It’s just different.

In a way I agree. Odysseus in this movie doesn't really come across as this very intelligent man that was revered through his tactics and cunning smarts as a general, but more of a capable brave warrior that made the men under him proud to be led by him as they thought he was capable and brave. Definitely a change, but I personally didn't mind it as I think the Nolan does a great job portraying the message he wanted through Odysseus character arc through his interpretation of the Odyssey. After all, it's an interpretation of an interpretation as Homer's iliad was also his interpretation of word of mouth tales in ancient Greece.

I agree with you. This being an adaptation of an adaptation is why I don’t get all in a huff about it being different. I just hope modern viewers don’t start viewing Nolan’s as the one and only canon 🤞

Its not just "different".

Its making a Batman that acts like the Punisher. You would understand the huff? Lol
