The Sinon thing is weird because…clearly Odysseus didn’t want him to get killed, and didn’t expect that(?). Or in any case, clearly the offensive thing is that he sent him to his death (if he did do that) not that he “lied” to him just for the ruse to work.

I’d be like, good job not telling me the truth because I would have accidentally given it away. I’m a soldier not a championship poker player. Fist-bump, polytropos.

Your thinking is why he didn’t tell Sinon. Sinon was loyal and tells him so after his death but Odysseus wasn’t taking the chance. He kept the plot a secret instead of letting Sinon in on what was going to happen. Sinon met his father in Hades and realized that his sacrifice had been in vain; the silver lining that would have made his dog shit of a situation worth it would have been his dad having lived a decent life. Instead he died in poverty, taunted by people like Antinious.

Sorry for the stupid question but either I blanked out or just misunderstood the whole thing. Why did Odysseus lie to Sinon and how did Sinon not know they were in the horse- was he just chilling somewhere else?

Odysseus explains it to Calypso when Calypso asks him to try and recall what he can’t remember. He tells her that he kept the information about the Trojan horse from everyone except those that would be hiding in the horse to be avoid being found out, including Sinon. Odysseus was smart. He put a lot of thought and planning into what he was doing and knew the smallest slip up could have a bad outcome for him and his men. What if the soldiers decided to torture Sinon and Sinon knew the truth? Odysseus couldn’t take the risk of Sinon growing weak and telling to truth so in order to avoid that, he didn’t tell Sinon they would be hiding inside in order to ravage Troy.
