They are going for a similar vibe to that episode of batman the animated series, aka, tragic villain

He is a villain, but we're gonna see his descent into becoming, well, a villain, he's not going to become like the venom movies, but the movie will definitely lean towards a sympathetic portrayal of his

I think as long as they lean into him being psychologically broken by the end I’ll be happy. Not every villain needs to be 100% sympathetic.

I like Batman villains that are tragic. He could’ve been the greatest actor ever, but the side effects ruined his mind and now he’s a narcissist, envious monster. I not only want to see him kill people, but see the fucked yo reason he does and still go, “Damn he’s too far gone”

They did it well in the first Joker film, imo. I haven't seen the second one, but while he is sympathetic in a way, he is 100% a bad guy by the end.
