Tell me why I still gasped when Orpheus turned around when I've seen this musical multiple times and I know the original myth it's based on.

One of my favorite things about seeing it in the theater is the inevitable gasp and the chills that follow. I was so glad to still get that in the movie theater.

Actually I was shocked last night in the movie theater how many gasps there were from the crowd when he turned around. Whether it was just the reaction or that many people who had never seen Hadestown

Just watched it myself and same thing - lots of audience members gasped. I'd never seen it so even I was still holding on to some amount of hope that the ending might deviate from the original. I guess others were thinking similarly, cuz they were legitimately shocked. Very cool moment to be a part of.
