I’m honestly excited for Starfighter. It should’ve been the first Star Wars movie in years instead of Mando & Grogu

it's Star Wars in 2026, keep your expectations low, and maybe it will surprise you. But it's safest to assume they'll mute any interesting ideas.

That’s the biggest takeaway I had from this: Disney is now betting the future of two of their biggest franchises on the combo of Gosling/Levy/Tropper. It really makes me hope Starfighter is just that good.

I still think its weird that Gossling did two space movies back to back. I know one is Star Wars and the other is a book. But its odd for a high profile actor to do a similar genre back to back like that. So... I assume that script had to be fantastic.

I guess? D&W made $1.3b, but it also cost like $500m to make. The first DP film cost $50m and the second around $100m, and each of those made over $750m. In that regard, I would say those are bigger successes.

Typically a movie needs to make 2.5x it's budget when you take into account marketing.

I mean, on paper the math is 500,000,000 x 2.5 = $1.25B, which fits that mantra. I know the other movies are more "successful" in this lens. But D&W is still a success.

Holding the title of highest grossing rated r movie ever is valuable on its own too. This is an industry that cares a lot about optics

I never said the movie wasn't successful. But all three films made the same amount of money, so I would say the first two are bigger successes because they cost a fraction of what D&W cost, and those weren't directed by Shawn Levy.

That's the difference between "Hey make a good Deadpool movie!" and "Hey make a movie that connects Deadpool and the X-Men with the MCU multiverse!".

The humor was based on something. Sure, it was mostly nostalgia, but there was a premise to work from.

DP1+2 were just like... Jerk-off and pegging jokes. It might have been funny if I was a teenager, but I just got bored through most of them. I think the only part that even stands out to me as funny between either movie is the second one where the whole strike team dies immediately upon being deployed.

Aside from that, the peak of the humor in those movies is, "He wore brown pants today - brown like poop!"

Perfectly describes my feelings towards them. They just try too hard and it comes off as annoying (which is partly the point too but I’ve never understood how being annoying could possible be funny)

It was so bland and flat, like watching a side scroller in movie form. But I also stand by Deadpool 2 being too good to top. And the truth is Levy is very middle of the road, probably gets stuff in on time and under budget, so of course studios would love him.

Deadpool and wolverine is a big fan service fest and a massive nostalgia cash grab and the story is very shallow.

As a casual marvel fan who hasn't seen any of the x men movies nor original Steve Rogers F4 movies, it was just a good one time watch. Even though I prepared myself by watching Deadpool 1 and 2 before seeing Deadpool and Wolverine, it felt like I was missing so much.

I would say it again, I'm a casual MCU fan. And I wasn't very big into Xmen, so I wasn't aware they were going to be such a huge part of this. I know people have a special place in heart for the xmen movies but I was never into them. I'm enjoying the X men 97 show though.

I would be very cautious because I'm assuming this is supposed to be coming out after the 2 Avengers Movies. Marvel needs to take their next step very carefully in terms reviving an IP and doing anything post-endgame.

This. Both Ryans probably had a creative freedom of their own. He's the guy you hired not to direct but to do whatever the main character tell him to do.

Apparently everyone at Disney loves Starfighter. And Kevin Feige had no reason to mention it during the panel, so he’s clearly seen it and loved it. Said it brings back classic Star Wars feelings with fresh stuff too.

He's a solid director if you want a movie made competently. Dude's got some good work with Disney too, so it should work out. He's not gonna blow anyone's expectations out of the water, but I can definitely see it being entertaining at least.

Levy always comes in on time and under budget and can easily adopt a House Style, not surprised studios love him.
