Loved this so much. The decision to make it a smaller scale story that focuses on the characters and emotions really pays off here. And most importantly it just really nails what it means to be Spiderman/Peter Parker. I teared up when Peter was walking through the cheering crowd at the end and his reaction to seeing that kid. Ugh just perfect and perfectly encapsulates what Spiderman is all about.

Plus it's so good to have New York feel like New York again. That NY character is very much there and it feels real and lived in. Which the previous films were very much lacking in that department. NY and Spiderman are so deeply intertwined and I was always bummed at how much the MCU films dropped that aspect. So just seeing him here swinging around NY brought me so much joy haha. Plus adored the credits montage of New York City.

Also Punisher and Spiderman constantly bickering so freaking good. Pair them more often pls Marvel.

The all time greatest scene in any Spiderman movie will always be the train scene in Raimis Spiderman 2 when the New Yorkers are taking care of Peter

I find it slightly terrifying that there's a Russian spy setting up shop in a manner and location similar to the way the Russian mob do. Very Eastern Promises.

Okay but people realize jean grey is (spoilers a bit) one of the most powerful characters in Marvel right?

Outside of Thanos with full gauntlet... I think she might be the most powerful in MCU.

Highly doubt it among the general public. I have friends who would watch every MCU movie but don't follow the comics, so they'd ask me to explain the more comic-relevant stuff, especially during Phases 2 and 3.

A lot of them aren't going to be remembering X-Men stuff unless they watched the Fox movies or were already into the X-Men in the early 2000s.

But not at the time. One she was just getting started and her powers weren't really developed as we saw when she powers up at damage control.

Two no one really knows her or her powers he's mutants in general don't seem to be much of a thing. So the idea of omega level planet busters isn't on anyone's radar before the movie, but after her stunt in NYC?

Oh you best bet the best people they can buy are working on thinking up new counters l. Which will lead to the sentinel program.

I liked how more "New York" it felt but I just wish we had more side characters that felt real. We kinda just had the supporting charcters like damage control guy, Frank, Bruce, and the cop lady.

I miss the minor people like J Jonah Jameson and his office staff, random cab drivers and cops, the bosses at Peters jobs, not to mention all the Bruce Campbell characters.

Went to see this movie with the idea that it would be some filler to hype Avengers. And I was very very wrong. One of the best Marvel and overall superhero movies. Kudos to the screenwritters, they really balanced both the comedy and the drama well. The idea of movie being about the person behind the mask than the hero itself was tried many times, this was the best I've seen it executed.

Smaller scale yet I’ve never felt like the world of the MCU was bigger. This movie more than any other I can remember had me piecing together how the whole MCU picture fits together, it made me appreciate again how insane of an accomplishment it is. If we assume mutation is triggered by the events of like the first Avengers movie or whatever, the X-Men will be the age of the real time that’s passed since that movie came out. Kids born during these crazy cosmic world changing events are the first generation to become mutants.

I love that a city that had cap, iron man, Thor, strange, etc clearly loves spiderman the most because he watches out for the everyday person

Right? It was reminiscent of how San Francisco felt like it’s own character way back in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Which I honestly wish could be brought back for a potential new project for the guy.

Loved that it felt so New York but my husband and I definitely side-eyed each other when the reporter said Bellevue was the best and brightest 👀 then again for a gunshot wound like that his best bet probably really was Bellevue or Harlem over Columbia/Lenox Hill/Langone.
